I was born on Vancouver Island in the town of Comox. My folks since have moved away & lived in the U.S. But I consider myself a Canadian American. Beautiful country up there.

We don’t need any exposure for our beautiful islands. Stay away. You will ruin it.

This ABC news piece was 30 years ago. Hundreds of thousands of Vancouverites and Victorians know about Hornby and tens of thousands visit every year. Consider it ruined lol. We go there once every 3 years or so for a few days. There is still the main Co op store!

Convince the Canadian government to allow development and community building in new places so that people don't have to all flood to the same developed places.

I live on Salt Spring Isle and it used to be like Hornby. When I moved here there were about 2,000 people. It was a tight knit community. Then we were discovered. Now there are about 12,000 year round and about 20,000 in the summer. There is some of the old community left but there are a lot of newbie's who have no sense of what a community is. We might have to move to Hornby.

Hornby is changing rapidly as well. A far cry from when my father moved here in the early ‘60s.

Sadly, a "sense of community" is now an exhibit in the Smithsonian. Urban folks today (2024) are alienated from each other and nature.

Beautiful place. We used to own land there. I guess there is a good reason why they didn't show Little and Big Tribune bays, or whaling station bay...those beaches are deemed ".little Hawaii" for a reason.

I’m sure there is no way publicity like this piece on US national television would have any impact on the pressure to grow…

My wife's family settled on Hornby in the late 1800's.
