THANK YOU. For 4:3 and for the kind words. I can't wait for you to have one. To clarify: it's an Oberheim with an extra MS20 LFO, in the shape of a Moog, that acts like an ARP.
I went this year. MSW are awesome and I bought the warp core there (and love it). I also fell in love with Catalyst Audio's line of Tube modules. They sound amazing to my ears. Supposed to be released in 2025.
another distinguishing feature worth highlighting on the MSW-830 is the digital modulator, which apparently will have lots of different modulation algos and the ability to load new ones.
Great rundown of the most interesting stuff and associated explanations, and I can understand why you prefer not to do booth interviews. I also really enjoyed getting to talk to you again at Knobcon this year, and to your point about passionate getting together, the icing on the cake is when those people, such as yourself, are also kind and humble. Thanks Jorb!
That MSW-830 looks very promising! regrettably sold my SH-101 a while back when I was broke, so a three oscillator mono with similar Roland mojo sounds right up my street.
I have a musonics vanilla synth coming hopefully soon here I am so excited everything I've heard from it is exquisite glad I can have an instrument built by suit and tie guy and as well as support a company that isn't a corporate machine
Great meeting you in person, and thanks for the advice on oscilloscopes! Although not as cool as an old school scope I think I’m going with The Korg Nu:Tekt NTS-2 oscilloscope kit you mentioned. Excited to see what waveforms are making what sounds!
i can't belive you left out the Ectocore!! i thought it totally stole the show. that thing is absolutely incredible ! jamming on it brought an instant smile to my face and i can't stop thinking about it !! by far the coolest module i've seen anywhere in years let alone just at knobcon.
Ayyy, demon box is awesome! Alexandra and the team have a monster machine in hand. I’m gonna be snagging one to pair with Groc and the GR-Mega, as EMF is really fun for sound designing with granular. I mostly sound explore and make dark ambient pieces, and EMF can gives some incredible textures to work with. I’m more interested in the experimental aspect of sound, and this year has been awesome for folks like me haha I appreciate you publishing a video and your thoughts!
Was just telling my friend about the Demon box this morning. He doesn't do synths just guitar. We took an old pickup from a guitar one time and used it to record hidden frequencies so he's aware of the concept. Honestly wish I could buy one or make a smaller version to hook up to my eurorack setup
You left out one of the coolest features on the 830: each oscillator has its own glide time. So it’ll do the THX thing, but more useful, setting them all to slightly different times will produce some great transients.
Good stuff! I just sold my E7 (to buy a Moog Muse, for what it's worth) but I did love that little thing and I might invest in the Bree6 someday for some of that raw, old-school Roland nastiness. GS Music's recipe is just tasty.
Thanks, I enjoy that kinda stuff anyhow. You make the informative vids and listenable music. I'll make the nasty, horrid, experimental "this sounds awful" sounds.
As far as that Demon Box thing, I find all the gadgets and "Synths" are incredibly fascinating and cool, but "Experimental" or "Noise" is so very boring, unentertaining, un inspiring. I can get behind some of the Doom And Sludge modeled ambient because at heart that's what kind of music I listen to, and synths are really good at recreating that huge fuzzy distorted guitar and bass sound. Anywho, good stuff, thanks for sharing fren. Always happy when I see Jorb in my feed.
the warpcore is cool. The Bree6 blue face looks like a classic Korg. I didn't get the demon box. Just weird, like a JD Vance talking point. The Vanilla synth sounded good but the 1/4 inch is a turn-off for me as I have too many modules in eurorck format.
I have kind of a different take: i kinda hate it when passionate people do cool things. I prefer apathetic people doing boring things. But you do you, Jorb. May many flowers bloom. (PS I hate your videos 😅)
Naaa this is totally not true. The tone of my Prophet 10 is totally different than the tone of my Pro 800, and there are sounds which I cannot create in one or the other, no matter what I try. It is true that several synths sound similar, but there are synths with character and others with features the rest don’t have. For example, try to get the sound of a Yamaha SK20 with a Modwave and good luck with that task.
@@Donetur yeah different tone? Ha yeah but we are in 2024. Companies using the exact same 1970 schematics and people still act like it’s something new! The whole industry just rehashes, doesn’t innovate at all! Prove me wrong. What’s new that you haven’t heard for the past 40 years? Holding my breath.
@@Lo_Scum one name: UDO Super 6. There is nothing old which sounds like this one, it has its character. On the other hand, your statement not correct, it doesn’t matter if newer synths may not sound with enough character, saying that all synths sound the same is not correct in my opinion and that was my whole point. On the other hand, if a company releases a synth which sounds as good as a vintage one, let’s say Prophet 10, E7 or Code 8 for instance, it is highly appreciated, because it may cost less to get that sound than buying a vintage synth and more reliable (but harder to repair). So this explains why people still buy them. But there is innovation as well, for example NINA, MPE implementation, or customized oscillators in Korg Prologue, etc. it is not black or white.
@@JorbLovesGear I say use whatever resolution you want - youtube will likely upres it anyway, just please no more 1:1 ratio - it's not a good use of the screen real estate.
@@_goldfarb_ I've been doing 4x3 if I think a better layout the gear I'm showing. Plus I think it feels a lot better on phones, and in most desktop settings, just worse on tv's and fullscreen. I'm gonna keep exploring

Oberheim circuits? 3340 + 3320, wow how original could that get. there aint nothing special about oberheim circuits in 2024 exept they use chips that are easy to implement for poly, that every polysynth used and use today, because so easy to implement they were copied and remade. a paire of 5 bux chipz, wow an oberheim circuit... exept for the psychological reaction in the back of the brain sending a message saying "very expensive/legendary". if that modular aint poly, there really isnt nothing special about that sound, it's just average. synth legend and snobbish blabla can really be a bunch of crap sometimes. there are so many urban legends in audio... (yeah yeah i know, the way one used the circuitry, ob had a buffer in the resonance circuit to avoid bass loss, but that was 40 years ago, anything new since???)

Michigan Synth Works needs more attention :)
Everything they make is top notch.

Heck yeah, Jorb, I love gear, too! :D Thanks for the mid-dance party chat. Hello from Santa Steve!
Had me sold @ Suit And Tie Guy! loved his modules from the old days! Nice.
So awesome to see you there! Plus one on your last point about the community and STG awesomeness!
lovely writeup. Glad to see you shoutout Warp Core. Infrasonic Audio wrote the firmware for Wiggler.
And as recently dug up, you can use it to make the original Reese Bass (actually on a CZ-5k), but cool to get a better explanation of how it works.
🙏🙏🙏Cheers! He mentioned that, nice guy
It was fun hanging out with you at the bar and party Sat, I look forward to doing it again next year!
Those GS Music synths are nice I played a couple of them with the wind controller...I think the prototype one with no keyboard will be around $1,000.

lol, your description of Schaumburg is spot on except for the direction from Chicago.

Hey I know that guy! Super video, and you have a cameo in my one too😅

ok, now I need some guitar pedals to pair with my dewalt drill

I also stayed at that Extended Stay America and holy fuck was that place old and busted. Zero Stars - too many notes to share.
I want more keys on that gs, beautiful
