      you need to make $150,000 a year in a household in order to be able to afford a Median Home 30-years fixed comfortably. What you say is an understatement because even if you work 100+ hrs a week in a minimum job, you just won't make it unless you are making some decent cash 😒. I'm from Silicon Valley and honestly, I think its bullshit and full of corruption, Cities are falling all over the place, not just in San francisco and Los Angeles. Redwood City and many more are beginning to feel the effects.

      I’ve had to sell my home that my daughter and I have lived in for 20 yrs and am looking for a mobile home to buy. I had no idea how difficult it would be to find a trailer park that would take an aging RN who is about to retire. They are all 55+ and won’t allow my daughter, who is 37, continue living with me there. I have secured financing for up to $180,000 for a new mobile home but got denied by the park itself. They told me I couldn’t afford the lot rent there and that my credit was not good enough to rent their dirt patch. LOL. Even if I were to pay cash for another mobile home in the park..... I still couldn’t live there and my daughter is definitely not welcome!!! The elderly have a market on these mobile home parks. (No offense. ... I’m elderly too.... just trying to be funny to reduce frustration). They get the rent controlled prices etc! ...... I digress.... how did I drive this far off the road. I guess what I mean is.... Who knew I’m not fit for a trailer park in Southern California. I’d be an asset, as @ RN, to an elderly community. I could be their home health nurse and my daughter could run their errands for them. They are missing out on allowing us into their communities.

      @@denisebeanblossom1826 Forget about trailer parks - way too expensive. Find an acre or more of empty land that allows mobile homes. Make sure you can install well and septic, and you're in. There are plenty of lots like this that are owner financed (no bank).

People buy $6 steak on creditcard with 10% interest. In debt for life and still buying a new car. Never think of tomorrow and spent it now. Combined with always beautiful weather and people coming from all over the world daily " to make it" what do you expect. It has always been a shit hole in some places. But now at more doorsteps. And don't forget TH-cam and smartphones wasn't that big 10-12 years ago, but "tent city" also existed then. Now just a little bit more and more and more. I lived in the SF Valley for 24 years, in Pasadena for 7 years. Things started getting bad in 1982 with the "recession" and then Pres. Ronny Reagan cutting funding for mental institutions with a resultant flood of them being released onto city streets. Then came an economic boom in the mid-late eighties when landlords started buying up rental properties and jacking up rents. Then in the late eighties came a surge in gangs, with gang graffiti being sprayed everywhere, on sidewalks, street signs, walls, telephone poles, freeway signs, and on concrete underpasses. After that came high real estate prices that drove house renters out of their homes, with some winding up on Skid Row downtown. Then in the early '90's came the literal hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants looking, no doubt, for a better place to live than the shitholes they came from. I spent numerous hours at the old Busch Gardens in Van Nuys, went to Universal Studios, ate at Le Petit Chateau in Burbank, learned to drive at the Robinsons parking lot on Roscoe Blvd. Hell the first .30-06 I ever bought was from the Alamo gunstore in SF. But by 1994 I was fed up with the place, and I remember on the day I left, stopping at the CA-Arizona border, getting out and flipping off CA. That was in 1994! I doubt that I could go back there today and live...not just because of the high property taxes but because of the filth you see littering every street. Yes this is what a 3rd-world country looks like. Yes this is what "Socialism" looks like - a mix of greed and high taxes on the people. Such a waste of what used to be called the Golden State. Now a graffiti-scarred, tarnished, litter and rodent infested city dump. Sad.

Not sure how the State will survive this one.

      Check this out bro, when you say this, "drove house renters out of their homes, with some winding up on Skid Row downtown." You are completely wrong. You just think they ended up on skidrow. You don't know what you're talking about. The people on skidrow and 90 percent of the people homeless is because of drug and or alcohol addiction. You make no sense. Ok people and their families are going to end up on skid row in tents shooting up and smoking crack for breakfawst lunch and dinner. Those people who lost their rental properties and or homes just move to a different city or leave the state. The people on skidrow are all junkies. I don't get why you idiots believe that people who lost their homes automatically turn to drugs or alcohol and end up living in a tent. That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard in my life.

      The homeless have always gravitated to CA on account of the warm weather. Those who can afford to move will. As people lose their jobs they will lose housing & will be forced to live in their cars or RV's, & then onto the streets in tents with all their possessions. Shelters will take in a few for 1 night-& it's back on the streets. So we will continue to see more tents in front of schools, shut down businesses, empty lots, freeway under & overpasses, & apt. buildings. They're not all drug addicts or mental cases. I would think it wouldn't take long to get on drugs or lose it with this degree of hopelessness. It's hard to climb out of this situation when there are thousands out here with nowhere to go.

      Neither democrats nor republicans REALLY care about us! Because the real problem is that the rich keep getting tax breaks and the poor pay more and more! Anyone below the poverty line should pay ZERO tax, what we have instead is billionaires paying ZERO tax..
      To fight poverty and the overgrowing loss of jobs, not just to covid-19, but also other factors such as automation. Our government needs to not only build cheap housing, but implement a basic income system! A system where everyone, no matter their income or social status receives enough 'basic income' from the federal government to survive with! While abolishing things like food stamps and other low income-related crutches. Because in a basic income system, if you can't get by it really is your own fault!
      What they should do is reduce the amount of income tax paid by the vast majority of our society, while increasing it for the rich! Something like this;
      Gross 0 - 40.000 = 0% tax

The power to pick up and leave wherever and whoever is attempting to tax the crap out of them. They take their money and the jobs they create to a place that shows them appreciation. Look at NYC and California, the wealthy are leaving in droves. We the middle class and poor have no choice but to stay, and who's taxes get raised ? You got it ours.

      Lmao, I guess you think the deep south is much better that is why year after year Mississippi comes last in everything. The areas of the nation that vote Republican year after year are the poorest, uneducated and ignorant people in the US. I used to live amongst these people in rural East Texas there is not utopia and by thinking if California were to become a Republican state all its problems will be solved. This is like telling a heroin addict if he switches to meth all this problems will be solved. It took 4 or 5 decades for this problem to get this bad and we have had two major economic crashes in less than 12 years. We must acknowledge these facts if we ever plan on truly solving the problems we face. I truly believe if we work together as our founders envisioned than we can conquer our problems but right now that is not going to happen. Republicans must be taught a lesson for their hypocrisy and holding a Democratic president to one standard and Republican President to a different standard. When you set a precedent for one President and violate that precedent once you are in power is beyond hypocritical. Once they are humbled and balance is brought back into our politics than maybe we can start making some headway on the problems we face as a nation.

      @@HammerLeaf Hah I'm no fool...
      First off, the government might get over 3 trillion in revenue, but they also have over 6 trillion in spending.
      Second, while democrats have often done little to nothing to actually fix the problems, republicans just do everything they can to fill the pockets of the rich (both really solve nothing)!
      Third, with the system that I propose, 99.99% of the population would pay little to no tax. While the extremely rich would pay much MUCH more tax than they do now (of course use of corporate assets for personal use and off shore accounting would have to be addressed).
      Fourth, this vast amount of tax money could actually solve most of the issues where finance has an impact and our political leaders weren't just filling their pockets (and that of their investors).
      Fifth, with such a vast amount of tax coming in from the rich, all basic needs could be taken care of, while education and medical could even be free (education is completely outdated and needs a huge overhaul btw)!
      Sixth, this system would actually raise the standard of living by a tremendous amount for all, while still allowing people that invest their time and money wisely to become rich!
      Seventh, if corporate income tax was also based on market share, coupled with a basic income system and personal income tax system like this, it would actually be a dream environment for any startup business.
      Eighth, this system would actually make it easier for you to become a millionaire, but much harder for you to become a billionaire (such extreme opulence is revolting anyways).
      I can go on and on, but you probably won't get it anyways...

Homelessness is profitable in LA and the rest of the state. Over 60% of the money allocated to help the homeless ends up in the pockets of advocates, real estate holdings, and programs that claim to help but instead pay themselves, staff and partners nicely without doing anything to help the homeless. Homelessness has only gotten significantly worse all throughout the state and will continue to after a year of the state being shut down.

How about these people take some responsibility and get some help. There are resources for mental illness, drug addiction, alcohol abuse. All they have to do is reach out. A community cannot possibly seek out all 30,000 homeless, they have to be able to do the footwork themselves. It’s so sad, the homeless population just seems to grow in this part of California. To give you a non political answer, I lived in Rural Indiana and Metropolitan San Diego. California always had an issue with law, order and accountability. Both at the government level and equally important at the parental level. It's been decaying in many areas for a long time. You can prop a society up for a while and not expect them to take responsibility, eventually the cash runs out or you have too many on the system. California now faces both. Many people have no real life skills and no real interest to improve, eventually they wind up on the street add to that a tax situation, rent situation, etc etc etc. It's been the perfect storm. Now people like me are worried we will join them as jobs die and costs continue to rise. I can't wait to leave.

      What they should do is reduce the amount of income tax paid by the vast majority of our society, while increasing it for the rich! Something like this;
      Gross 0 - 40.000 = 0% tax

      Yes, my idea is completely alien to modern America, but a basic income system would completely change America for the better. It would not only solve the poverty issues, but illegal activities would be less appealing, due to everyone receiving a basic income anyway. It would vastly increase the income and quality of living for every working American that doesn't make millions a year. Heck it could even revive the American dream and bring a prosperity that not only the American people, but no people in the history of our planet have ever experienced!

    It's worst in Oakland, where I grew up, you can't recognize it now, same story. We always had the poor, alcohol, and drugs. This is the results of high competition for low end housing. The cheap houses to rent, like when I got out of school 45 years ago. I at 18 having my choice of a lot of houses to rent, cheap! A social worker once told me these are the disconnected American poor. When you flood the cities with harder working poor from other countries, there's going to be losers.
