    I know that KDSS is for offroad, but what I've noticed about my '19 GX460 is how well it handles on the road (with the right tires). I don't drive it offroad often, mostly boat ramps and the occasional forestry road. Good to know that it has the chops to goo offroad if needed.

      yes KDSS is specifically for offroad. It will disconnect the sway bar around 18mph and under. Then reconnect it above that. Brilliant invention. Since it disconnects under 18mph Toyota put could put on super insane think sway bars which make it handle "carlike" (for what it is) when ON road...

      I don’t go off road with my GX. Which are the right tires you mentioned. Is it depend on the size or brand? Mine are 265/60R18 Good Year Assurance MaxLife and I can feel some road noises driving on normal roads

      @@haduong5828 I think that there are a lot people running truck tires with an aggressive offroad tread pattern and a stiff carcass. They look really cool for sure, but you sacrifice much for that look. I'm guilty of this. I went back to SUV tires, similar to the OEMs, which are street oriented and my GX is so much more enjoyable for the majority of driving. I get better fuel mileage, they are quieter, better wet weather grip, offer a smoother ride, and the vehicle tracks and handles so much better on the street than your average A/T or M/T truck tires. I run the stock wheel size and tire pressure. Puts the luxury back into the GX.

    KDSS allows for a heavier swaybar thus better onroad handling as well as max articulation offroad. Comparing 4runner "Limited" vs "TRD offroad". "Limited" is a boat on wheels. "TRD offroad" handles great on-road and stays much flatter in the turns. My experience, yours may vary.

      Actually you get more articulation without KDSS.
      KDSS is for stability (on road) and high speed off-roading on light gravel dirt roads.
      Crawling is better without KDSS, it has more articulation over obstacles because the KDSS isn't trying to keep the vehicle stable all the time.

    I remember car care nut saying XREAS can be more problematic than KDSS (albeit one is more for on road vs off road but still)

      Care Care Nut's own GX460 had KDSS Problems which he called "infamous Lexus GX lean". His stock GX with 1yr/6600 miles got KDSS lean. He also stated about his response to his wife "I assured her that it was lot of other GXs as well, this is a very known problem". So I would say just enjoy the benefit of the features, it can be fixed. My local group I've seen KDSS ram failures but was fixed with dealership and life's good after replacement.

    I am not much of an off-Roader (yet - LOL) so I love the XREAS Suspension. It does a good job of reducing tip and dive and sway on my limited 4runner. Good explanation concerning KDSS as that always confused me a little.

    I wish the 4Runner Limited came with KDSS. I want the full-time 4wd system for Minnesota winters, but I do plan on going off road, thus KDSS would be beneficial. Looks like I'll be deleting the X-REAS and putting on an aftermarket lift.

    Great content as usual!!! Took the GX to Jackson hole last month from Georgia. The GX handled the winter conditions gracefully!! Used Nitto Ridge Grapplers this trip, might have made a difference

    1) Why doesn't the Limited model have KDSS or XREAS available?
    2) Heck, why not make them available options on most/all models of the 4 runner?

    I love when I get a very articulate answer from Dennis Rodman!! This is great, another concept that I now understand with my 4Runner. This is almost as informative as when Scottie Pippin explained the difference between MTM and DAC to me.

    How does the KDSS disconnect? Is this done electrically in 4Lo? Thanks for doing these videos!

    • @LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD
      @LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hello 😃 I am not 100% sure of the logic as technical info is scarce online. What is known is that around 18mph and under the system disconnects the sway bars by making the end link cylinders "go limp"... above 18mph both end link cylinders will "hold pressure".. essentially connecting the bars above 18mph. Again this is an over simplification... no exact KDSS logic diagram can be found online... what we do know is that it works great.... maximum wheel articulation. KDSS has its own ECU and a solenoid turns the system on or off electronically
