I was looking to create a saxophone, as a saxophonist I have created legato samples but thought it would be nice to have staccato at the top end of the velocity. I have successfully used the multi sampler to import the legato and am now researching a cycle within the sampler for the sustain part of the ADSR, I note the quick sampler does it but it’s not obvious to me where that option is in the multi sampler. However thanks for a great tutorial, clear and concise.
Thanks for the rundown! This will be so useful as a resource saver on my aging mac. I can auto sample out some of my favourite patches from resource hungry VSTs and use them this way when creating. Then I don't have to worry as much about my CPU topping out or dealing with latency due to a higher I/O buffer.
Great tutorial Sean, could you possibly do one on good sample file management regarding sampler explaining where samples and instruments are stored both user and stock and best ways to edit patches considering use in multiple projects. This is an aspect that usually gets left out of tutorials. Many thanks and keep at it.
I cannot find auto sampler anywhere. I have LPX 10.5.1. None of these videos show where to actually find it... So frustrating... I actually found it as I typed this comment: Set up new instrument > External. There! Easy. The little things.
Thank you for this nice tutorial! I am encountering something strange! The autosampler is doing its job and sampling (Im hearing the sounds), but in the sampler, all the samples are offline and also do not appear in the samples -> autosamples folder! Does anyone know what I can do about this?
I'm new to Logic, how do you open the basic Sampler to edit the sounds after using the Auto Sampler? After I create the instrument I can't find how to get to the sounds. I tried making a new Software Instrument but the only sounds it lets me choose are the stock ones that come with Logic (it opens as "Classic Electric Piano" instead of a basic Sampler)?
Great tutorial, thank you. Can the auto sampler be used to sample other instruments, such as guitar notes (line-in from my guitar)? I can't seem to get it to work...
Sean - Tks for doing this. I'm having a problem getting Logic (and MainStage) to actually sample. I set everything up just like you did and I see the meters and hear audio through my system until I click on 'Sample' - it asks for the file then runs the whole long sampling process but never makes sound like yours does and then never plays when I add that sample to a software instrument channel. I'm using a BabyfacePro for my audio in/out and MIDI in/out. What am I missing?
trying to sort sampling external gear that isn't class compliant example SH101. I have the midi converted to CV, but im not sure how I setup it up capture on a different incoming track for audio
Thx your Video . One question. Apple loop ( Software Instrument Loop ) once drop to track, they will lose their effect ., eq... so on. Is it possible to keep that effect which the same like pre listening ?
Hey Sean! Could you maybe make a video on best way to make drum patterns in Logic? I’m currently using Ableton and planning to switch over to Logic but i can’t find an alternative to the Drum Rack that Ableton has. Thanks!
Hi Sean! I did everything you explain to use the autosampling feature for Logic Pro X. However, when I try to use the created sampler sound it doesn' sound. I don't know if I have bad connections or the Logic it doesn't work. I am desperate about it. Let me know if you can help me. Thanks
what's the best way to create tuned 808s in 10.5 Drum Machine Designer or Sampler? For instance if you create a kit in Drum Machine Designer how to you then spread a sound (ie. 808) across the keyboard so you can play it in tuned tones?
Since the Auto Sampler names the individual sample files with the root key of each sample, it should be pretty easy to just drag and drop those files into a new Kontakt instrument and then use the Auto Mapping tools to map the files correctly.
Hi, I’m using this exact program and my new Alesis VI 49 has keys that don’t always sound when I play them , unless I really hit them. Then they work , but after I play another note , the same happens again. I have an old Mac running Catalina so I couldn’t use the Alesis VI editor. Is that the cause ? Thanks! Keep it up ! Laura .
I ran a MIDI monitor and all keys seem to be working . If it’s a gate issue with several piano , piano and bass variations, how do I fix this ? When in the BBC orchestra plugin, ( free version) some keys kept sustaining the kite until I clicked 🛑 stop next to the play button...
hey Laura, unfortunately I don't have experience with that specific midi controller... you shouldn't have to press the keys excessively hard to get a response though. Sounds like a hardware issue... have you tried stock plugins to see if it still happens?
Hey Sidhu, I’ve updated to catalina + 10.5 on the laptop only for testing at this point... not updating my main mac just yet but wanted to check it out for you guys :)
@@SeanDivineoh tx brother for telling im also trying to upgrade first i backed it up after monday im going to upgrade if anything happens ill go back to the backup 😂
I tell ya, it's a lot hard and in depth than one would think. I tried something similar a few years back when I tried to sample the sounds off of a Nord Lead Fourski 😳😳😳😳😳 Not only do you have to make sure you set the ADSR perfect, but there are so many other parameters that you need to set before you start sampling. Granted, I didn't have Auto-Sampler then and was simply using the classic "Deez Nutz" Sampler. I also didn't even try to sample little riffs and chords but rather single notes (One-Shots). Once I got it back home and played the sample notes on a keyboard, it was all wrong. If you adjust the ADSR on a midi keyboard for your recently Sampled Notes, you won't necessarily find your desired settings. For example, when sampling, I didn't know how much Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release to set right there and then because I wasn't sure how I was going to play the notes later on (Chords, Single notes, use single Sampled notes, Dampened Notes, Mono or Polyphonic, etc. So you almost have to have the original sound source right there with you for hours to get the exact parameters right before you start sampling. Or.....do 2 sets of samples, one sound-set for Mono, one for Polyphonic. Find a happy medium with regards to the Release and Sustain as you can always shorten the notes post-sample but it's way harder to add Release and Sustain on a midi Keyboard and have it sound good. In closing; just save your pennies then go out and buy the hardware (or Soft-Synth) that you're trying to Sample "From". you waste so much time trying to get the sample right but then as soon as you try to play back those sampled notes, you realize you needed more or less ADSR 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Can you help us with the crackling sound when recording i have rode nt1 kit with rode ai-1 interface I have the xlr cabel changed but it's still the crackling Is this problem from the computer?
Black Moses Beats Studio One will end up with the best in class of everything in time I hope. Can always get something like Sample Robot, tho. Lots $$$ 😢
@@Ryahan Sample One XT is dope and loads presets from a few other samplers but the Velocity layers & auto looping samples has me jealous. That Drum synth and Drum machine designer is nice too!
I followed your demo. I chose "Sample Every - 1 Semi". After clicking on "Sample", I'm assuming it's saving an instrument file(s). Now it says, "1% complete, 123 Min. remaining". Doh!! So, lesson learned: when you're learning, keep it simple. Ha.
Your wrong the update needs the latest Mac OS update not Mojave I had Mojave and it made me update both my Macbook Pro and Mac Mini to the last os just to using logic 10.5 looool
Simple and nice. Thanks ONCE again!
Stay blessed dear Sean.

More video on the new update please! Thanks sean

Sean "the Plug" Devine lol thanks for the many many many assists you provide.
glad it's helping Kadre 🙌
Resampling stacked plugins for Reese basses will be the ish.
stacked instrument sampling for sure 🙌
I‘ve seen a couple of videos about the new Logic Pro X 10.5, but not this feature about sampling an external hardware synth for example. Thx.
I've been waiting for this feature since Apple bought Redmatica, the company that originated the Autosampler app for EXS24 back in the day.
very nice tutorial.. i like the way you talk .. very useful and helpful ..
looks like you could create some really cool new sounds with this

Can we save it into Kontakt format? Or ANYthing besides Logic locked-down format? 😯☺️
not that I'm aware of yet... it's saved in exs24 format for the new Sampler plugin

Is there anywhere we can find these sampled files people are sharing?
Does the auto sampler on logic sample just midi or also audio files?
Hi Sean! How do you actually connect the physical synth or instrument that you're trying to sample to Logic? Thank you very much
I use the external instrument plugin and route the audio / midi connections accordingly on the audio interface :)

Is it logic “x”or “10?” I think it’s a Roman numeral. If it was 10 o’clock you wouldn’t say x o’clock.
Dope tutorial, new Sub here, well done, glad to meet ya, you know your stuff.....
