I would have liked to have seen her meet her biological mother. This was a good movie. Michael Landon, Jr. directed the movie and he has his Father's touch.
Yes I too, I was waiting.
Watch the next movie called The Reckoning. It's in that movie.
The Reckoning
Really she didn't meet her mama in this movie,I was looking forward to that
Yesssss I know
You might find this hard to believe, but in the summer of 1988 with permission of Mr. John Lapp (it must be a common surname) he allowed me to pitch my tent on his farmland for two weeks. Twice I ate at their table with the whole family. I was working at a nearby restaurant. I found this film difficult to watch remembering how kind they were to me. This film brought back many memories.
I’m sure it was a wonderful experience for you
So this was my first time ever seeing this movie I see why it got such a good rating so can any one tell me if this how the Church of the later day saints are
Oh I really cried hard true story I could tell
Yes, Lapp is a common surname in the Amish community.
HookBeak_66: Even mafia bosses can be kind, and it’s also “good p.r.” to be “kind to strangers/outsiders.” It’s those they hold the ball & chain over who know what they do; who they are. They enslave and “rule” through creating “fear of losing everything.” Many people have committed suicide. They destroy the lives of many, trust me, I know.
I lived in Ontario (Canada) for several years. There are a lot of Amish people around in these small villages and towns. Just like in this movie you can still see these carriages pulled by horses.
I read several books about their lives. The shunning is still practiced against those who do not submit to the council of elders. But other religious groups, such as Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, and Mennonites, have similar practices. This also happens in some Protestant churches. I have experienced similar “rejection” ( by the Protestant group) because I had a different opinion. So I understands perfectly what happened in this movie.
The end of this movie showed beautifully how love prevails. Both parents finally had a strength and broke what was rooted in them... they understood their daughter and realized that the world they live in can be very cruel.
This young girl decided to leave the group, I think for two reasons. She wanted to find contact with her biological mother and did not want her parents who raised her to be shunned by this group like she was. I am sure they found a way to stay in contact …,
Yes in the series that this book is based on she does eventually stay in contact and has a reoccurring mention/ roles in the books that follow. Beverly Lewis is a wonderful author in this genre. I recommend her books and this is one of my favorite series of hers. There's 2 more books after the shunning that follow Katie's story. And I totally agree with your comment about the type of isolation placed on people within "religious" groups and it's sad. If we use the Bible as God's authority and not man's conviction we should never have that problem but...we're fallible and sinful and prideful so we do.. and instead of just agreeing to disagree on the different conclusions we come to concerning scripture we become offended and react incorrectly. Thank God for Jesus and grace because we definitely need both.

Michael Landon Jr directed this movie!! He's just like his father. They produced the best films !
@carolina_girl3484
Michael Landon's affair with Cindy Clerico had major consequences. For one thing, it made things "incredibly awkward" on the set of "Little House on the Prairie" because the cast knew Landon's family, Karen Grassle wrote (via Showbiz CheatSheet). "I knew his wife," she recalled. "I had been in their home. She had been kind to me. And I thought about her children - there were three of them still at home ... and younger than Cindy."
The affair also damaged Landon's relationship with co-star Melissa Gilbert, who played his TV daughter Laura. "I have to work with Mike, I can't take sides, yet he's done something that's turned my world into angry, opposing sides." Gilbert wrote in her own memoir "Prairie Tale." "I was put in a horribly, uncomfortable position."
Things came to a head when Lynn Noe followed Landon and Clerico after learning of the affair, according to the New York Post, who reported that Noe confronted her husband and threw a bottle of vodka at his head. At first, however, it looked like the pair might get back together, and Landon even said they would renew their vows. But this was not to be.
The mistress becomes the wife
Cindy Landon
Eventually, Michael Landon and Lynn Noe split up, according to the New York Post. Cindy Clerico became pregnant before the divorce could be finalized. Landon and Clerico were married in 1983. The entire situation hurt Landon's career and relationship with his co-stars. He lost several endorsements including from Kodak. He also lost the respect of co-stars like Melissa Gilbert, who had looked up to Landon as a father figure.
It was a lovely movie. It had all the feels, anger, hurt, love, and betrayal. But so good.
I turned the movie off half ways and came back to find a treasure
Would of liked to see Katie's reunion with her biological mum, good movie, great acting. 😊❤
Me too! We need Part 2 😊
There is a sequal called The Reckoning - different girl but its the 2nd part to this movie
There are 2 more movies to this series
MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT THIS MOVIE - FEEL THE ENDING IS INCOMEPLETE. You could have at least showed some interactions between Katie and her biological mother.
It has a sequel.
I read the series but don't know the name of the others and when she meets the boy again.
@@SMD2308oh name of it pls?
@@vl9488 "The confession "and "The reckoning"
@@vl9488 it's called The Confession. If you find the link to the full movie, please post it here.
This is about the reality of adoption world wide, the consequences of what happened when children weren't told of their beginnings. People shouldn't judge the Amish people and their beliefs. No one religion is perfect but they are wrong to treat her like that - the parents & the community should have been given advice too. The parents & community can't change how she feels inside. Both mums made huge sacrifices.
Does the Amish Bible say lying is a sin? The parents lied (at least by omission) that girls whole life!
Lll@@Robin-lh9wr
Shunning is a cruel practice. In one of Paul's epistles, he urges that sinners be restored in a kindly manner. Thank you for this beautiful, sensitive film.
Father’s love for her daughter is immeasurable, but many a times underrated.
🎉🎉. O x.9 00am 9 😊x.
Beautiful story. It is an absolute confirmation that the truth will truly set you free. We may not play God over another's decision and life.
I love the values and morals.
She will now truly be theirs forever. They will never have to fear losing her again.
Shunning is disgusting and away of control . All about Religion and bible study, where does it say to be so unforgiving afraid of change.
I could not imagine a life without music.. These people are completely controlling! Its called spiritual abuse..
The development of this severity in the Amish faith did NOT come from the spiritual roots but developed under the hatred, imprisonment, and murder that reigned down on Amish and fellow baptism-in-adulthood faiths. The idea that only an adult could make a conscious decision for baptism flew in the face of other Christian faiths which did infant baptism - both positions strongly believed by their respective faith believers and practitioners. I am NOT denying that it is a problem, particularly shunning - but understanding how dangerous it was to be Amish/Anabaptist early on in the history of these faiths, and how keenly they strived for isolation only because they were safer that way, may help us understand and feel compassion for this horrific historical experience, and understand how the isolationist features have become strongly held practice. It is my understanding that the degree to which, and details of the stricter restrictions, are held in various communities varies widely, due to independent softenings of this strategy.
Wrong Taylor Swift lost by music and the new generation with social media and woke upbringing
More like religious abuse , which all religions do.. guaranteed.
The Amish also enjoy sexual abuse- by the father and brother/siblings of the girls and young women.
they listen to hymns which is very much music, just spiritual music.. a lot of the music we listen to today is evil!! And furthermore, if we were to live by the Bible completely… a lot of people would be shunned in today’s time, the Bible does speak of separating ourselves from unbelievers… and we are supposed to separate ourselves from unbelievers and not allow their sin in our homes or lives!! But today people want to change the Bible to their own beliefs… it doesn’t matter how much you try to change it or how much you don’t agree with it… we are in the last days and he is coming back very soon, day we will have no excuses!! g
God is a good God and a faithful God BUT…. You have to live your life according to his laws, his commandments.!! God gave his own son to die for the sins of the world an ungrateful world.. who is always trying to change his word to fit thier desires… Shunning is mentioned in the Bible, not using the word shun, but it does tell us to separate ourselves from sinners and their sin!!
@@authorcole
The Bible also tells us of helping sinners repent, and try and show them the way of God. So, how can you do that if you're not in contact, a minimum at least?
Thank God! Old ladies in every culture, and most 'religions' are willing to SHUN the rules & support LOVE! ❤❤❤❤
@drleesadr do you speak from experience ?
@l.d.d.2062 I was never Amish,.but was raised in a fundamentalist Christian church. So from that experience, Yes, I speak.
Good story. With so much evil in the world and getting worse, don’t blame them for trying so hard to keep it out. If only the rest of the world was smart enough to reject evil.
True but cutting yourself off from the world is a kind of weakness. We should be strong enough to resist evil. It strengthens and matures the spirit.
Psalm 72 describes the reign of Jesus on earth!
"The Shunning" was followed by "The Confession" and "The Reckoning." "The Confession" (2013) is the continuing story of Katie Lapp, a young Amish woman who goes on a journey in search of her identity - only to find herself embroiled in a mystery that must be solved before she can be reunited with the "Englisher" mother who gave her up to adoption 20 years earlier. "The Reckoning" (2015)is the conclusion to the story.
Thank you for telling us all how to continue the story❤

Yes, watching from Nigeria.
beautiful film i cried a lot thanks to producer
Shunning is evil, nowhere in the Bible does Jesus say we have to shun each other. The poor girl.
Yes shunning is totally against God's teachings
I think they have their own version of the bible.
Totally agree
But that was the mildest shunning in the history of shunnings.
@@sandtx4913 They read the same one. These are rules made up by the Amish church, has nothing to do with the bible only a desparate attempt in keeping their people among them hidden under the veil of faith.
Very good movie. Well acted and believable. Shunning would be so hard, an eye opener. Glad her parents relented and just loved her.
😂and in the end, I praise God for miracles!!!! I do wish my own father had been so loving in his good-bye. But after 15 years, I'm grateful that distance made us closer.
It's not just Amish. I lost my brother and his whole family when I left the JW church 29 years ago. I am dead to them it broke my heart and It's been painful however I had to let it all go...
I understand each faith in God has its way to protect their way❤❤❤her Amish parents really loved her and that's all that is important ❤❤❤
The amish parents sinned by not telling their friends and family that their daughter was adopted.
Sherry Springfield used to be an actress in police series and medical series. Really good quality actress
I have read the all book and was desperately searching for the book...alas I ,ve found it...😊❤
Religion is so demonic. Our God is a God of origin and He is love.
God has a book and he is the publisher
Follow your heart. To the parents that adopted her out of love..God will always bless you.
I read the books years ago. So pleased to find the movie of it! Thanks.
Oh what's its name?
name of the books please
Im missing the part we she meets her mom😢
In the book, her shunning is much harsher. She endures it for much longer. She ends up going to live with her mom's cousin who is Mennonite. It is from there that she leaves from New York.
In the book, while her parents certainly love her, they follow the old Amish dictates to the letter of the law regarding her shunning.
I like the ending to the movie much more than the book.
The 2nd and 3rd books are also amazing, although the first movie portrayed her birth mother, Laura's, story, much differently in the books.
SING IT OUT! Psalm 150
Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens![a]
2 Praise him for his mighty deeds;
praise him according to his excellent greatness!
3 Praise him with trumpet sound;
praise him with lute and harp!
4 Praise him with tambourine and dance;
praise him with strings and pipe!
5 Praise him with sounding cymbals;
praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!
WHERE IS PART 2??? 😫🤞🏻
I want to see her meet her bio mother!! ❤
is there a part two?
@@dianabartha7886 I don’t think so…. but would love for them to make part 2
I think the name of the sequel is The Reckoning
Fantastic movie. I watched it many times over the years. You watch all three movies. The shunning, the confession and the reckoning for the full story.
God is Love. 'Religion ' can & often is not about love. That is tragic😢
The only thing I don't like is she walked away from her horse. The Amish are very cruel to their horses and livestock. Good story but I am sad at the walk from her companion that got her around.
O was looking forward to seeing the biological mum face and reaction 😞☹️
It’s a movie…not a documentary…
What a lovely movie😢❤
Thanks for this amazing movie❤❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing your amazing video film
Wow beautiful story.
Great story with emotions and we can't never juge the differente believe. Thank you.
A religion and way of life that could be so cruel… 😢is that what faith could be about? 😭😭No please
You go Katie, soar, new life and opportunities 🎉
The actors sound like they have irish/Scottish accents...
I think it is suppose to be Dutch
This was well done!
Love is very powerful in spite of what happens in our lives. Beautiful movie!
If the elderly board shunned her because Kate was adopted. She did not marry the widowed bishop. I should leave their community and start living with my biological mother. She was not born in the Amish beliefs. She was raised only by two people from Amish community. She should start for looking for her real mother.
The conrolling mess would drive me to rebel. The dress code alone would make me cranky.
I love this movie and the unselfishness of the unwed mother. This is true love. This is a great lesson many of our young girls today.
❤❤❤
Shunning is the same of malice.
That of evil harden hearts
Yes? she should have been adopted into the catholic or Muslim faiths, they are as pure as the driven snow!....
I want the rest of the story. What happened to her friend that disappeared? I was hoping to see her meet her bio mom and maybe find her friend or learn what happened to him then return home to start her amish life with her parents who loved her so much.
I guess you have to read the book
I loved the book, I hope they finish the story, it really is a beautiful story.
Excellent cast, thoughtful script . Heartwarming movie!
Shunning is evil, unforgiving hears too. It hurts God and His creations!
Great story ! Thanks for sharing!
I am sure there is second part don’t know the name. It has the same cast would watch it again. We can learn from it to be tender hearted to one another
It's called "The Confession" and came out in 2013.
Thank you for your answer I will have a hunt for it.
It’s amazing the different responses to the same film.
I read the books years ago .so pleased to find the movie of it thanks👍🥰😍👍
Enjoyed that, thank you.
Touching movie ❤
Good movie indeed!
What A crazy mentality from her adopted father. He is close-minded like the rest of them. Poor Kate
Omg I cried so much!
Best way to end the day 😉
The moral of this film.
No matter what mask one has chosen to wear, underneath is a flawed individual.
So, all the burning of letters...or books,
will not, a fact change.
How could she be living the life that was meant for her without her music
Great movie!❤
Very good movie, heart warming to see love wins

What’s up with their accent? Doesn’t sound Dutch, Swedish or German. Sounds like Irish and then it doesn’t

All children deserve to know if they were adopted.
It was a wonderful story and a great movie thanks for sharing 👌👍👍👍
Beautiful
Didn't think I was going to enjoy this but it was a wonderful movie.
Most INTERESTING that the young men who go abroad come, back, to their African homeland emulating those rappers-looking...who may have gained lots of wealth from rapping, but who still do not represent the finesse of those who put their lives on the line bringing Blacks to a level of higher respect!! Thankfully, you did dress the young prince in regal, African elegance, when he appeared, after his return!!! Know the history of the Blacks in your own country from ancient times...eliminating the evils which were being done to other Blacks and the history of the Blacks in the diaspora, so you bring forth excellence in manner of dress from the diaspora that does not put rappers' dress as the epitome of Black elegance that may appear to be the dress embraced by Whites, but, in some instances came from designs of outstanding Black designers!!! Thank you!!
Great movie 👏🍓👏🌹👏🌷👏

Yeah.
It is a very sad film, but a reunion with Katie's biological mother would have been a wonderful closure😢
