    The looks has grown on me. I like that it looks different and in this white paint with the bigger wheels it looks cool

      Crazy, isn't it? Chris even drove his wife in this to a holiday party and didn't feel embarrassed when the valet pulled it up. A lot of people didn't realize it was a Prius. LOL

      Same here. In an age where many sedans are look-alikes, that you virtually have to see the automaker logo to know which car it is, the Prius just stands out. I like that.

    I’ve owned bmw 5s, audis, Mazda’s and more and this vehicle has impressed the heck out of me. Fun to drive, much more power and speed than the numbers suggest...power mode works...handling is very good in this car. Feels comfortable, solid but still light and nimble, the suspension feels just right. I just can’t get tired of driving it.

    Thanks, Chris for reviewing this. We just bought a used 2016 Prius IV Touring. The safety features were a very important factor in our choice.

    Still relevant today, 6 years later, for us ‘pre-owned’ car owners. So thanks for this. I got the Prius 3, with 48,000 miles, but quite old at over ten years. However, here in the UK, this exact car you reviewed, is the last model year, before a ‘zero tax’ status was removed for hybrid cars. Since March 2017, ONLY EVs get to have that status. Later than that date, an annual ‘road tax’ is due - which our government enjoyed dubbing a ‘vehicle excise licence’ - and it’s £170 for a Prius hybrid registered after March 2017…so very few come up for sale of vehicles right at that time, and they are at a premium. But, if my Prius lasts ten more years, that’s nearly a two grand saving for me. Aside: we get a lot of direct imports from Japan, because fortunately for us, they drive on the totally other side of the road to the US and most of the world.
    They also have strict rules about older cars, for roadworthiness, and so around the ten year mark, many Japanese want rid of very well-kept cars. They also do not have a ‘rust belt’ as you guys call it, in Japan. This generally means the vehicles are well-kept and little rust on them. My issue is two-fold. First, the speedometer/odometer are swapped out. So this being an absolute red flag normally for a used car purchase, I baulk at that. Secondly, that tax break that only applies up to March 2017 registrations, means that an imported Japanese car, even if it was MADE and driven in Japan before that date, has not been REGISTERED in the UK until AFTER that date, at the point after it gets off the boat from Japan.
    Many car dealers, let people buy the car of that type, not really clarifying this point! Bit naughty. So you buy a Japanese import, low rust, nicely kept, but it’s got the odometer changed and the road tax is £170 potentially when the buyer thought it was zero - and that’s every year for the life of the car. I think this is why the rules have changed and the buyer now must tax it before they take it off the showroom onto the road, because the road tax is no longer transferable with the car. My Prius 3 is a great car. I am doing a bit of brakes work, but that’s our rust and probably lack of use, as you know a Prius is light on its braking components. It’s a superbly robust automatic transmission, wrapped in a hybrid car. They should have told me this and I would have already bought one earlier. Take care all.

    this gen Prius does look better in the interior for sure. The mpgs are great as usual with the trade off being slow 0-60 and passing power. If you want a more power hybrid by Toyota, there are better options for sure.

    Hi there, thank you for the great video! I'm thinking of getting a Prius at the end of the year and was thinking of buying new, but these older models seem to be great as well, right? Would you please give me any recommendations if I were to buy used?
    I understand the Prius Four is the "high end" Prius of (I'm guessing yours is) 2016, right? Any tips on what mileage is acceptable? Would a 50-100k mile 2016 four be alright? or a three? Not very familiar with these past year models yet. Thanks so much for your videos, they're very conveniant! Also, do those back seats fold flat?

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Christian Bjork. We can't speak on the reliability of the used models, such as this 2016, because we typically only review new vehicles. That being said, we'd recommend that you try to purchase the newest, lowest mileage vehicle that you can find and afford as the higher the mileage the more problems that can occur due to normal wear and tear. Plus, while we do not know the exact shelf life of the batteries in these cars, we do know that they do have a shelf life, meaning that over time, they will begin to hold less of a charge than they did when they were new.
      In general, for this generation of Prius, the higher the number (i.e. - two, three, four) the larger the car with more available features. Toyota has moved away from that tier system now and uses the more traditional L, LE, XLE and Limited, nomenclature for their current Prius cars. Finally, this car that we reviewed does have fold down rear seats, as you can see in the video here 3:12.
      Hope this information helps and thanks for watching!

    Being in g back from the dead, but how does this Prius perform in hilly areas? Where I live in the Great NW, we have a lot of mountains and hills. Looking to buy one. Thanks!

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Carlos Loyola. The 2016/17 Toyota Prius Four was a nice driving car, but unfortunately, we don't remember how well it handled hills. Atlanta is a fairly hilly area so the fact that we didn't mention it being sluggish during our review means that it was probably just fine. We suggest you try to test drive it in an area that you're concerned about to see if you notice anything before buying. Sorry we couldn't help more, but thanks for watching!

    Seperate question....I was wondering....Why do auto manufacturers make such weird looking EV cars. Let's take the B-Klass 250e. Now everybody who cares to pay attention can see that the same platform and body as the A45. So the 250e gets hum drum less enthusiastic car reviews due to its hum drum exterior accents. But the A45 has reviewers peeing on themself due to the speed influenced exterior and interior accents. Why don't all car manufacturers except Tesla who gets a pass...give you the electrification or hybrid versions with the same agressive designs. Why do these EV have to look like boring, smart looking, computers on wheels.

    • @AutoAcademics

      This one actually wore on us, Ben Stern. Possibly because it was a Prius with dramatic styling and we weren't expecting that. But despite styling opinions, it can't be argued that this new Prius drives much better than the previous gens. We appreciate your comment. Thanks for watching!
