Loved watching the old "Monday Night Matchup". This is before ESPN became a network of loud people talking over each other at the top of their voice! Great memories, thanks for including this
I never thought about it but you are right about ESPN of old vs Today. To add to that ESPN has non sports agendas but so does the NFL and just about any traditional institution of culture.
This was the night the Redskins ended the Cardinals season by beating the snot out of Neil Lomax. The teams did a role reversal afterwards with the Cards only scoring over 20 pts twice in the next 12 games, going 2-10 and the Skins winning 9 out of the next 12.
The Cardinals would only win in RFK in 1993 and that's when Joe Gibbs retired after the 92 season. In fact the Cardinals swept the Redskins something the Cardinals hadn't done in a long long time.
This game changed the trajectory of the season for both teams. The Redskins were 1-3 going in and the Cards were 3-1. Washington went on to win 9 of its next 12. St. Louis won only 2 of its next 12. The Skins still missed the playoffs because the 49ers beat the Cowboys on the last day of the season, though.

I don't remember this game, but I know for sure I watched it, live.
The Cardinals HATED playing at RFK
I don't think they ever won there during the Gibbs era. Maybe they won in '81, but I think even that year, the Skins prevailed.

The Redskins didn’t really turn a corner until that Monday night game against the Giants. The big Theismann Ouch game.

Thank you, That was the play I was looking for.
My first time at a NFL game!
