With the power of the BBC behind him, it should not be too difficult to trace those lines of his family down to the present day. Some of them may be quite shocked to discover that their great-grandfather had another family on the side, but others may love discovering a new cousin.
I think the fact that his great-grandfather returned before his son was born says a lot about the man. It's very possible he had a loving relationship with his family in Africa. This cute guy should try and find out more about both sides of the family.
