  • We've heard so much about others catching mackerels in just 20 meters of water in Gold Coast. So we decided to head out and trolled for the first time. It was a slow start and we trolled at much deeper water than what we should have, but the day turned out to be very fruitful once we headed back inshore closer to Burleigh Heads.

Hi Tim! Try trolling hardbody lures next time, they are better for bigger mackerel. Rapala's, samaki pacemakers etc. Deep divers at a faster speed

We had skirt, hardbody and metal slug under the orange board, and livie on its own at some point, but you r right, our troll speed was around 5 knots only. Good tip. Need to try trolling faster next time. Tx

Its called iDFish on Android and iOS, and it's A$10 subscription per year. Can't go fishing without it.

How much line did you let out for trolling Tim?

      3 lines, 40m, 60m and 80m roughly.
