    I have often wondered why these trucks always run full extension. To me they should have some sag so that you can drop down into a hole without moving the chassis

    • @texomarc
      @texomarc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Exactly! It’s disappointing to watch a lot of these 24’s move, simply from improper shock/spring setup. I’ll be doing more videos with demonstration on how to actually use “the spring mod” to tune your car for your terrain and driving style.

      @@texomarc I learned this back in 1987 when I was racing a gold tub Associated RC 10 with six gear transmission I wondered why my buggy was so difficult to drive the tq looked at my car and said move the spring spacers up you need droop

  • @trailwomanrc
    @trailwomanrc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Nice! Like running standard outer springs and forced droop inner springs at the same time. So the single spring is being used for both extension and retraction. I dig it.

    I have to agree with other comments that your spring mod is a genius move. I don’t know if you came up with it or you found it from someone else but either way it is an awesome idea and works brilliantly.

    Banding Down especially front is def key in scaling the steeps. Like how you put the spring over very cool. Tension up is better for crawling in my opinion. Dude love this vid!

      Yessir! The spring mod does awesome on light, scale type builds. I use 1/2” and 5/8” black rubber bands (assorted size hair ties from Walmart for $1) on most of my builds, or all of them once they go past a certain point. I love running huge angles, so it’s a must. Thanks for hanging out bro. Hope you have a great one.

    • @texomarc
      @texomarc  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yessir! Just be careful with the springs as you slip them past the collar and seat. You don’t want to stretch the spring out or deform it. I currently just run the black hair ties from Walmart but the spring mod works awesome for low/mid weight vehicles doing moderate+ crawling. The spring mod is a huge improvement over what you’re running and would allow you to control ride height, sag and dropout tension. I use the rubber bands because we tend towards extreme crawling and exceed the capability of the spring mod. I used to run between five and seven coils pulled over the collar and just capture at the bottom. I run tighter in the front. Hope that helps. Holler if you have more questions.

      It’s something I want to do a video on soon and also want to find an easy way to get the parts out so other people can build them. It’s pretty easy. After making the small parts, I used hot glue to tack the pieces in place and then used tire glue, letting it run into the joints. Then, it’s just sanding/shaping. Stay tuned and I’ll get to it in the next week or two.

    I run my 43mm shocks without springs and a limit strap over the center of the axle. Works great for me. What advantages does this spring mod have over mine? Just curious.

    • @texomarc
      @texomarc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right on! Kraig, dude I drive with in a lot of videos, sometimes runs no springs. What advantages? For me, number one, the way it looks when it moves. I’m not a fan of the jittery nature of many of the springless setups, at least from what I’ve watched. I want the car to move fluidly. They have no up travel because they’re bottomed out, so the movement isn’t smooth, up or down. I can’t say that it’s an advantage, per se, mine vs yours but I’d love to find out! It’s all a trade off and what’s most important is that your car fits your driving style and conditions. I feel like Maximus is setup pretty nice for where we drive. Any lower and I’d have to take off the bumper and sliders. Thanks for the comment! Hope you have a great day!
