  • Hey guys! My name is Will and I'm from the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. I was pretty much raised a suburb kid. I've worked a ton of regular jobs back home and I just never stick around at one because I always get tired of a mundane and/or repetitive existence.
    After about a year to a year and a half of working most jobs I start to get knots in my stomach in the morning before heading back to work. Maybe I'm just not consistent, or maybe it's my higher self calling me to become my own boss, and run my own show. I really think it's a deep part of me telling my conscious self to run away from a regular existence.
    My background is mostly in sales, but I also have an associates in engineering sciences, and have a few engineering design jobs under my belt. In the past I've been completely broke, but I've also had my fair share of monetary wealth. My life is full of failures, and successes, ups and downs, and I've definitely learned a lot along the way. One of the biggest lessons that life has taught me, is that if you have a goal, coupled with a burning desire, and you can hold that idea in you mind constantly for a long period of time, and work towards it: There is NO WAY you can fail at acheiving your goal.
    My current goal it to build a 20x40 off-grid cabin, live in the woods, and run an outstanding TH-cam channel that pays the bills.
    I'm on A MISSION to exit suburb and city life, and build a super awesome off-grid cabin in the woods. In the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
    I've designed it (myself) to be AS SIMPLE as possible. I'm not a builder, and have no experience in building. I drew it by hand with a bunch of blank paper, a ruler, Michigan's residential code book, and a ton of good coffee. I do not have unlimited money to thow at this project. I've got one shot, and need to make it count.
    If you're reading this, you're probably watching my cabin build series, and it means the world to me. Geninely, thanks for watching. You are what supports my vocation.
    Interact with my vid for the algo if you enjoyed my work, and have an awesome day.

    Step 1: “somehow” get myself 31 acres of land.
    Step 2: quit job
    Step 3: you better not had done Step 2 first.

    In residential electrical red is hot black is hot and white is neutral. Split phase is both positive, they are out of phase by 120 degrees. Three phase is 120 degrees out of phase on all three phases which equals 360.. extremely nice inverter and battery setup 👍👍👍👍👍👍

      Split phase (120/240) the positive conductors are 180 from each other, three phase they are 120

    Just like your PV wires, you should wrap some black tape at both ends of the negative wires to/from battery /inverter.
    When you switch to AC in the load center the WHITE wire is your neutral and the BLACK wire is the second line wire. Easy to switch those, please do it today and slap your hand...

    In addition to the color issues for wiring mentioned - Never mix AC and DC circuits. Your panel Ground should not go to a common Ground Bus bar connected with the battery negative. The panel ground is a safety (circuit) ground and needs to go to an earth point. (Ground rod). The battery (DC circuit) does not have a ground but rather a negative terminal or in other words, a return line. DC circuits at times may use the vehicle chassis as the return line(negative) so it may appear to be a ground connection, but it is not. Another factor to add that may be confusing, a negative DC wire is normally Black, which in an AC line is the L1 power line. The positive DC wire uses Red, while Red is used for the L2 line in AC circuits. I know you are using materials at hand, and I have also had on occasion used extra Red wire for Battery negative side, but used black heat shrink on the terminals and spaced along the run to indicate it is Negative side of the circuit. Helps to prevent accidental contact on the wrong side. Good project, keep up the good work and learning.

      Thank you for adding that comment. Mixing grounds of AC and DC can result in destroying the equipment for sure. I hope that our comments will help this fella get the electrical straightened out and on the right path...

      Thanks guys. I've removed to the battery connection to common ground. Y'all' rock. I'll make an update on the system to not confuse newcomers.

    Did I hear you are in the U.P.? I used to visit family and friends over there when growing up in northern Minnesota. Looks like you have the beginnings of a fine system. As you were describing your battery hookup you mentioned they were in parallel. I think they are actually in series (positive to negative) - no problem, just letting you know. Parallel would be all positives and all negatives together. I won’t bore anyone with the details of this. I wish you the best! Say hello to Copper Harbor & Houghton for me.

      Yea it rocks! Too bad my property is in restricted airspace and I’m not allowed to fly my DJI drone over it AT ALL/WHATSOEVER. DJI completely restricts takeoff over my land 😭

      @faccount1151 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WillMagnerFitness Wait what! Did you know this before you bought the drone? Any idea why your property is under restricted airspace control? Wouldn’t expect in a remote area unless you are in flight path for an airport or near some military base.

    I have the 6000 kw model Growatt and man is it LOUD!! Why do the fans need to come on when my fridge compressor comes on? My goodness it's only 3 to 400 watts. I was wondering if you have any advice cause I'm ready to give up....great video:)

    Will have you had any problems with inverter? I ask because I have the same inverter and having problem with it. I have been dealing with Signiture Solar and it’s taking a long time to get fixed. Tech support said they are going to move up to level 2 Tech. Support. I’m totally off grid. Just letting you know.

    dude thats a good looking shotgun. btw, don't you have any fuse on pv -> scc?

    • @WillMagnerFitness
      @WillMagnerFitness  ปีที่แล้ว

      only 8A coming from PV setup in direct sun and growatt is rated for 120A.
      I'll add a fuse soon but i'm not too worried for now. Will likely add 6 more panels in the spring and add the 120A fuse then.

    I have the same inverter, I have it as backup power for my whole house. It was a b!tch to install on a wall because it was so heavy.

    If we consider 6 daily sunshine hours
    With your solar panels it would take 3to 4 days to fill the batteries from empty to full

    The white should be on the nature and the black to l2

  • @brucebugbee6604
    @brucebugbee6604 ปีที่แล้ว

    On the AC side of your system, white should NEVER be used as a hot leg and black should NEVER be used as a neutral or ground. Black and Red are supposed to be the hot leads in a 120/240v split phase system, white is neutral, and bare or green wire is ground.

    Where do you live? In the US, per NEC, white is always the Neutral, Black and Red are always the hot lines. You are teaching people how to improperly wire a sub-panel! Please correct your video. NEC matters in most cities and counties and doing it wrong will confuse any electrician who might ever look at this setup. Seriously, using White for a hot line is a NO NO! White is the "Grounded Neutral", Always! Please correct this, ASAP. Update: I just noticed that your ground wire is black. Per NEC, the ground wire must be Bare Tinned Copper, Green insulation or Green with a yellow stripe. Back is ALWAYS a hot-line, never ground. You can't phase tape the wire if it's less than #6 AWG either, so the wire needs to be replaced. I mean, come on man, this is the most basic of basic NEC codes. Everyone knows White is neutral and ground is Green. No?

    • @ToddDesiato
      @ToddDesiato ปีที่แล้ว

      @David Scottsdale For the main panel, that is correct unless it's already bonded at the inverter.

    • @WillMagnerFitness
      @WillMagnerFitness  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the feedback. I will genuinely apply this to my setup.
      NEC who? this is my first electrical setup and panel that I've ever wired. Had no idea ground needed to be green. I know now!
