I am so sorry for your loss, losing any furry baby is tough, but our lives are better for it in the long run having loved that critter for the time we had.
I am having trouble with pin stitches. I have tried a few but they don't seem to disappear into the fabric like yours do and they make it harder to get the cross stitches in the right place. So I am not a fan and probably won't keep using them.
Gemma, with your diagonal parking method it seems as though the grid on your work is not necessary, particularly as you said it can take days to do the actual gridding. How important/useful do you find the grid to be?
I find it helpful for when I’m parking a thread, if gives me a cross-check that I’ve counted correctly. When I do make a mistake I’ve found I can figure out where I went wrong more easily. I’ve also had it prevent me from stitching in the wrong place in the diagonal, sometimes when there’s a lot of similar colours across many rows I can have a harder time telling where I am without a grid.
