I am like the rest of the folks in that I would like to have seen the tempering process for this sword. I know that rebar is not usually a top pick as far as the metal for a blade in that you never know what kind of metal you are getting. I have made tools with rebar and they worked fine and some that did not work fine meaning that they are not temperable. However, some rebar may be temperable. Its probably good to do a spark test on your piece of metal prior to using it for a blade.
If you are never going to expect much from the blade that was shown, I guess rebar is OK to use. I guess the sword may be a machete or a wall hanger. I am not trying to be harsh to you. I just hoped to see something new.

You can't harden rebar.... therefore it is not suitable for making a sword out of it.
If you choose to make a sword out of scrap-steel take a leaf spring. Leaf springs are 5160 (in most cases) and therefore perfect for a sword.
But it is better to buy some proper blade steel like 80CrV.
