@@danielthenorwegianguy That's funny. I've heard others say the same thing. But I think the whole point of the 'party' was that Tony refused to have these ideas in Genesis, so he probably was fine with being left out.
Steve Hackett is a incredible Musician who is still creating new music and plays live! His band is legendary and they play two sets, first is his phenomenal solo works and the second set is all Genesis. Please do yourself a favor and check him out live, you will not regret it! The best Progressive Rock Legacy Band out their..☮️
Hey Mojo, thanks for this, well worth the wait! John Hackett is Steve's younger brother. Bassist Mike Rutherford and drummer Phil Collins, of course, were his Genesis bandmates, so some fans consider this a sort of "lost" Genesis album. The song titles on "Voyage of the Acolyte" all feature the names of Tarot cards in them. Steve still records and tours, mainly his "Genesis Revisited" projects, playing material from his time in the band (1971-1977)as well as selections from his solo catalogue. There are several TH-cam videos of his concerts available for you to browse through. Again, thanks for doing this, tickled pink you loved it, and one last thing: Doesn't the intro to this just define the term "grabs you by the balls"?
It is easy to see here how important Hackett was in defining that classic Genesis sound. Their six greatest albums just happened to be those that Steve was involved in, this is no accident. There was a gaping empty chasm in their sound after Steve left. They were never the same.
The imagery in this composition is everywhere, in every note, every transition. Have you given a listen to How Can I? with Ritchie Havens on vocals? Word perfect to my eye and note perfect to my ear.
Steve did his first solo album during the gap between The lamb and Trick of the tail in 1975, Mike (bass and rythmicité guitar) and Phil (drums) helped on rythmic department and lead vocals (Phil), which made from Voyage of the Acolyte a "hidden" official Genesis album, only Tony is missing (Peter was already gone). Piece of art, try the whole album.
Yeah... amazing album. The first solo album while main-form Genesis still in existence. Banks wasn't in it... but Collins and Rutherford in there... Ace of Wands, Shadow of the Hierophant, and A Tower Struck Down are all epic tunes. Well worth your time. Album art (as usual) by his ex-wife, Kim Poor. Cheers!
Outstanding album, check out “Star of Sirius” from ‘Voyage of the Acolyte.” I swear to you, my man, ‘Star of Sirius” is the best song Genesis never did.
Steve's body of solo work is unbelievably diverse and mesmerizing. The volume and quality is matched by very few.
"Voyage of the Acolyte" and "Spectral Mornings" are two of the best rock albums from the '70 !
Keep on listening The Real Music, my friend!
That's Phil Collins on drums and Mike Rutherford on bass -- both of Genesis. Hackett's brother, John, is on flute.
yes the flautist!
Wow. Must’ve pissed Off Tony Banks for not inviting him to the party
