    Thank you for being that kind of person who fixes an $80.00 hand unit on your own time and money. This is why we should teach kids electronics in school.

    You are the best. Aside from all the amazing repairs you do, you have showed me and many others I'm sure, how to think about repair without whining because you don't have a schematic. That is invaluable.

      Sometimes schematics are required and other times not.

    Hope the motor isn't screwed up, causing an overcurrent. Sure seems odd that both switches would fail like that. You'd think one would fail and then that function wouldn't be used anymore.

    I would imagine that the switches connect to relay coils and every back emf spark event mounts up.
    Well worth the repair dave :-D

    I use a nice metal pair of scissors/snips for all stripping (I know I know, can and would be so much easier with proper tool but works ok - doing with same tool since a kid, and always provide relief with other hand if connected wire or cable.) It looks similar to yours but I don't have any grooves in them and the outside edges are smooth. :) The manufacturer's intent was simply just for paper, I think. To cut metal, perhaps a little bigger than what you cut here, I have a pair of medium-size bolt cutters which decimates all it sees. hahaha

    Great job! I had a quadriplegic friend for over 30 years: fell off a horse and broke his neck. His first electric wheelchair coincided with our friendship. No reason.
    The motors for each wheel were? Guess? Aircraft landing gear motors. Gene ran that chair miles a week, so those motors only lasted six months. Even in standstill mode, sitting still? The chair attracted hoards of mosquitos in the summer. Something in the electronics. Poor guy couldn't swat a single one.

      That is what you call "Hell on Wheels"
      Sorry couldn't resist. And if you are in the mood for good tv, check out the series Hell on wheels. Great old west series about the building of the railroad loosely based on facts.

    Amazon has some no-name controllers that should work. I had a chair that was missing the control and got a replacement for cheap. There are some controllers with more buttons but still use a 5-pin DIN.

    Mobility scooter batteries are ordinary lead acid units, but you buy them from the supplier they are 5 times the price. For a regular 17Ah 12V unit, with 2 in series.
    Those switches will last better with a simple RC snubber across the contacts, 10R and 100n 500V ceramic disk will do, and last pretty much forever with a low voltage supply.

    Is it the same problem If the switch doesn’t works intermittently? I have a chair that will stop going up but then after some time it starts working again.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The switches can certainly go intermittent. Contacts get pitted.

    Electric wheelchair has a joystick like controller. Get one of those and study it. You will find it fascinating and with your knowledge it will be a piece of cake. But do a video on it because many people struggle with it yet it is simple.

      @@12voltvids Yes I understand....and if I road my bike on a busy street probably would use goggles in conjunction with the helmet....but where I live there is a nice dedicated bike path (Loveland Ohio) (with stops along the way with food and beer!)

      @12voltvids  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Taco that's why I wear safety glasses that completely cover including the sides. Only thing that would be better is open cockpit aviator goggles with a seal around the face. I have both tinted and clear for low light / night riding even though I never ride after dark. I am a perfect weather rider only. If there is a chance if even drizzle I am not going out on the bike.
