Nice...Hope to see you there mate this season hahaha...keep safe mate slippery.....its calving season so we stop fishing for meanwhile...happy fishing mate.
I do a bit bro, it depends where your fishing and what time of year, if you head to the canals try some egg patterns, soft eggs with a vail do very well egg rolling for the big trout!
First of your vids I've seen mate & was a Good watch. I like how you make a point of showing what you were catching the Salmon on including the size/weight of the Spinner. Is late afternoon the best time?
Thankyou so much, really appreciate that!! Change of light would definitely be the best time just as the sun comes up or just as it sets. It can get slow during the day but they will still eat if it’s convenient for them, so mix it up, use the current to your advantage and with some luck your reel will scream off. Change of lights the best time, but just getting your line in the water increases your chances more than those who only wait for the light to change. If your heading there, good luck!! 🤙
Great video what kind of salmon or trout are those they look different from the ones in Washington State USA and is that a river you fishing or landlocked lakes for then they awesome I wish I could afford a trip there and how’s the weather there is tropical or four seasons I seen snow on hill tops there what’s the limit you can keep and how big or size limit
Thankyou brother! They are chinook/king salmon. They are manmade canals made for hydroelectricity but have some of the biggest trout in the world, they barely have to move and the ecosystem is so rich they just sit there eating. There’s also salmon farms in the canals and sometimes they escape and escapees can breed. There’s 4 seasons down there but winter really goes off, before the sun comes up in winter I’ve fished in -5 degrees and in summer it can hit 30 (Celsius, I’ll let you do the conversion haha). It’s a beautiful spot clean water clean air, snowy mountains and great fishing! I’d love to get to the states at some point but I’m in the same boat, it’s an epic spot though and might be worth a trip in the future! Thanks for the comment bro!
Yeah, it’s an Okuma - Nanomatrix 2-5kg rod and I was running 6lb braid to 6lb deception leader. I’ve had luck with up to 12lb leader, but you seem to get more hits with the lighter stuff, especially when the suns out and it’s not murky. Good luck!!
That’s gutting!! I’ve done the same thing, fell off my seat then the wind blew the car door closed. Unlucky, you might be able to get a replacement part that will be cheaper than a new rod!
Hey guys, just the cages directly up from the Tekapo Bowl. The fish are everywhere so move around to find where they’re holding on the day. Hope that helps, cheers guys!
Your bang on with the rules there mate, however I didn’t fish after landing my 2. This was shot over a few days but there were never 2 in the bin with a wet lure 🤙
Great video but please do not pull the fish on land, kiss them, or touch them with dry hands when you release them. It will hurt their mucus layer which protects the fish from bacteria, viruses and fungi.
Just booked holiday to South Island for March 25, can’t wait! Spending about a week around Tekapo.
Very Jealous! Enjoy!!

Nice video mate 👏 what is your favourite lure you used?
Anything crusader with blue pink or silver. Low and slow, can’t beat it!
Nice video bro. Do you have to buy a lisence for fishing?
Yeah bro for all freshwater fishing in NZ. You can get them online and just get day passes if you like 👍
Nice bro 🤙
Thankyou brother🙌🤙
Awesome
Thankyou brother, much appreciated🙌!!
Top fishing
Cheers mate, much appreciated!!

those chinooks are small but the rainbows they catch in there are massive
hey mate would it be a good time to go in june?
Sure you will smash it in June, Winter canal trips are epic. Just watch the roads ❄️
Nice 😊 🤙🤙👌🤩
Cheers man 🤙
Are you allowed to take them or do you have to release them
You can take them, only what you need!
Big fish but I watched the video with my heater on.It looked cold.
Thankyou, sounds like a wise move, before the sun came up all the rod eyes would freeze over with every retrieve!
Hi, if you don't mind me asking what kilo rod are you using and what pound braid and leader.
Good luck!!
@@FFA-Official. Thanks we are heading to the Twizel canals this winter so this helped out a lot. :)
Exciting!! Hit the change of light, good luck!!
@@FFA-Official. thanks I caught my first sea run salmon yesterday it was a 10 pounder so I'm pretty stocked about that.
Wicked! Great to hear, keep it up!!
I've got the same rod and snapped it😂 gonna buy another one though good rods
That’s gutting!! I’ve done the same thing, fell off my seat then the wind blew the car door closed. Unlucky, you might be able to get a replacement part that will be cheaper than a new rod!
Nice fish.pukaki spillway not ohau a at start.
Yeah mate your spot on, realised that one just a little too late 😂
What cages were you fishing at please? Cheers!
Hey guys, just the cages directly up from the Tekapo Bowl. The fish are everywhere so move around to find where they’re holding on the day. Hope that helps, cheers guys!
umm thats not Ohau A its actually pukaki outflow . and yes very unusual to see no flow there
Yeah messed that up, someone caught that earlier in the comments, again apologies!!
Might need to check the regs mate.
Once you keep 2 fish you must stop fishing even if you intend to release any more
Your bang on with the rules there mate, however I didn’t fish after landing my 2. This was shot over a few days but there were never 2 in the bin with a wet lure 🤙
Course for her being fired?
ya need a bigger net
I know man, those ‘freshwater’ nets aren’t designed for these canal fish haha
Great video but please do not pull the fish on land, kiss them, or touch them with dry hands when you release them. It will hurt their mucus layer which protects the fish from bacteria, viruses and fungi.
Yes spot on, always wet hands and invest in some gloves that are safe for freshwater fish!
😂
