Found this video looking at ruby reds. 20 years ago the “greens” were the spotted ones….and the one you have were called psychedelics. I’m just getting back into the hobby after 20 years Your tank is awesome
Love your tank, knowledge and choice of fish. Green mandarin is my favorite fish and I can't wait till my tank matures. My second and third favorite fish I can't get that's a porkie line and bat fish because they get so large. Wilber is beautiful and I bet has great personality but your going to need a bigger tank. Keep in reefin bro!
Bryan! You're the man! Appreciate the support! I try to keep the fish selection varied and above all COLORFUL! I'll be posting an update this week since I've got a pretty large tang gang now in this tank now!
@@SpookysReef if you’ve got super blue lights, the ruby red dragonet will look SO good in your tank, but the green one will almost go unnoticed… just a tip to keep in mind. But if your lights are white, a green mandarin will look really good
I saw the ruby re d dragonette on sale from the same place and offering free shipping with 99 buck purchase! Great deal. I dont have pods yet though and dont have a big sump or a fuge. Can I just keep adding them in or how would I handle that? I have always loved these fish as well! I also have a diamond goby that hides all the time and barely even comes out to eat so hoping the pods w ill help him to ! He is getting very thin and I keep adding nitrates by throwing food down for him!! Do you know if the diamond gobys eat pods? Wilbur is addorable! It seems the fish with the most personality are always the aggresive ones! I had to get rid of my hawk because he ate every fish I added or would just nip away at them until they died:( He had tons of personailty though!
I love Hawks! One of these days I’ll purchase a flame hawk again. Wilbur was never aggressive, but the Ruby Red Dragonets look too much like the krill I feed him, I can’t blame him 😅 How long have you had your tank? You could add pods manually! I recommend you do that on occasion (monthly has worked for me) if you’re keeping a dragonet or mandarin. But how long have you had your tank for? The pods will need things like phytoplanktons and live rock thats well established.
Acclimating or accumulating? These guys are both still doing really well years later, and I haven’t added pods in over a year. So the pods are breeding on their own which is great
Have a Freshwater tank and wanting to start a Saltwater cause there are certain Fish I would Really like to have like the Mandarin Goby. Just Researching a lot now.
@@tylerhuxford44 very cool. I tried a pair if spotted with a pair of mandarins and let's just say I made an emergency trip back to my lfs to return a pair of mandarins
Yes, one is male and the other is female. With ruby reds, I’ve never had them fight. The only mandarin I’ve seen get aggressive are the target mandarins. Those have gone after my green mandarin before
@@tylerhuxford44 Yes, we called it a dog face puffer. Great fish, but their curiosity about what everything tastes like....not so good 😂 We have a Vallentini puffer, he works well. How are your mandarins? I have had some success and some failures. The longest I've had a green mandarin with a target mandarin is 5yrs. I have a huge green one now for almost 2yrs, he's more red than blue. Ruby mandarins haven't worked out for me, longest they've lasted is just under 1 yr, so I've given up on them.
@@nodrush80 the green mandarin is doing great! The ruby red dragonette unfortunately jumped out of the tank a year ago. And I’ve bought two since then and those all have jumped out too 😬 So I’m going to get a cover for this tank, and then I’ll get another ruby red. Also! Dogface puffers are definitely not reed safe in my opinion. I’ve had two porcupine puffers that were both reef safe, but in my experience dog face puffers are the most likely to eat tankmates… in fact I’ve never heard of that working out 😅
Nope :) totally understand the thought behind it, but In two years of new additions to this tank, haven’t had any issues. Also! This would be a really hard fish to quarantine… their slime coats would be really impacted by the chemicals, and the pods they eat are often completely absent in quarantine tanks.
As for a nano, totally! Great fish which doesn’t require much space. I just put a target mandarin in my 40 and he loves it. How small are you thinking?

Thank you so much for the kind words! It’s tough to find good intron on ruby reds. Psychedelics are a great name!

“Something came in the mail today… Deez Fish! 🐠 🐟 “
I acclimated my mandarin for 30 min and he’s doing good. Going on three months now
I think he's finished acclimating now bro
This one is 130 gallons!
Niiiice!
I'm locked in. Keep it up the mandarin goby is my favorite getting some soon.
Niiiice. Which ones are you getting?
@@tylerhuxford44 oh after seeing this. I'm going to look into the ruby Red & Blue Mandarin most likely

Is it possible to house them in a 26 gallon?
One with lots of hiding places and plenty of pods, sure!

We just got the red ruby dragonette and love him and he eats really well
Ruby reds are my favorite! So much color. Congrats on finding one that eats!

Welcome to the world of saltwater and reef keeping ☺️ there’s a great community here with extremely knowledgeable folks, and we’re here for you 💪
My heart stopped when you dropped them in, was hoping Wilbur didn't pop out for a snack.
Oh man, mine too! 🤣
do they interact? no aggression towards each other?
They don’t interact haha. But they absolutely have seen each other and no aggression :)

119 aquarium with 130 system

What type of smaller puffer is in the tank?
Wilbur is a Porcupine Puffer!
Unless you’re talking about my blue spotted puffer…. I have both!
what size tank u got?
119 gallons! 150 with the sump. Also got a 40 gallon in the living room
Can't believe that puffer hasn't decimated that aquarium, my experience is they eat everything!
A porcupine puffer?? How big was it? And what was it eating?

Still alive :) and fattening up 😅
I’m setting up a tank just for these two dragonets, all the other tank mates will be selected by friendliness.

A puffer in a reef Tank, 🤔, they eat corals though
Not always! This one did not

Id feel comfortable with 20! They realistically don’t need a lot of space. As long as there’s only 1
