In this video I install the Blow Off Valve on the supercharged 1968cc motor. I show how the vacuum line fitting had to be adjusted, and start the motor. It idles smoothly!
Thanks - yeah getting close. But the AF ratio drops down to 9 now when I rev. So I think I may need to swap in the smaller 1.45 main jets or smaller. I think maybe the turbo emulsion tubes plus the 1.55 main just (or 1.5 - I forget which ones I left in there) riches it up too much under boost when revving….
Yeah, so last run the AF ratio was going down to 9 when revving - with a little black smoke. I think I’ll swap back in the 1.45 main jets and re-measure….
Man that engine is starting to look like a beast!! So how many HP. You think you added to your beetle by now? Nicely done!👌😎👍 looking forward to see the test drive!
I am so close. I have been risk averse to driving it, because I have less visibility on what is going on. In my garage with all the gauges I can control everything if something seems off....
My cousin informed me I can remove the blow off valve cap and rotate it 90 degrees and then the barb wouldn’t interfere with the oil filler. Why didn’t I realize that myself!!!
No plans to do that yet - do you think that is absolutely necessary for supercharging, or can I just retard it by 4-5 degrees and leave electronic ignition in place?
There is nothing pure about this 1961 VW Beetle. It has a 1968cc supercharged motor, and it is on a 1965 chassis - since that is the chassis I could get with a title. However, it is a fabulous car!
G'day,
You have arrived at the exciting stage, the test drive.
Don't forget the camera.
✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.

Nice one, can’t wait to see the test run video.👍

If you go with original oil filler setup,it might have more room for the blow off valve.

Are you going to upgrade the ignition system?

@@LarsonSplitBus- What do the guys on samba recommend?
Clever, I'm always looking for a different way that may upset the purists.

@LarsonSplitBus- Yeah, I dig it. I built that same engine for my 64 baja. It's a blast in the mountains.
