Just picked up a Cyprus Hooked in 250 length/straight shaft for my Jackson Big Tuna and absolutely love it.

It will be the last paddle you'll ever buy, they seem to last forever.

I currently have a Camano and would love to own an Ikelos as a high-angle paddle. It’s the Cyprus’ bigger brother essentially. Combined with a Kalliste, it would make the perfect paddle set as they are the finest paddles Werner makes for high-angle and low-angle paddling respectively. They aren’t cheap but are worth the price and as far as I know they’re the best on the market in their respective category.

I bought my first Werner paddle in 1989 and it is in great shape. The owner of Werner said it was built at a time when they were producing 1 paddle per day. I had the opportunity to tour their current manufacturing facility and most of is still done by hand using techniques that they developed over decades. I've long since forgotten what that original paddle cost, I just know I've never regretted that purchase.

Does this paddle come in two parts? I went to a boat demo the other day... Tried the werner paddle for the first time and fell in love. What a huge difference a paddle makes! Ty very much for your opinion. What kind of yak are you in?

Yes I'm using 2-piece paddles. The connector mechanism on these paddles have always worked well for me. I did the same thing as you, I tried one of these carbon fiber paddles after years of using a heavy fiberglass one and I never went back. Most of my sea kayaks are Neckys, but I've had several types of fishing kayaks too.

I got a tour of the production facility last year. The amount of work that goes into making a single paddle is incredible. There's no production machine that stamps them out, it's mostly done one at a time. It made me appreciate them even more.

I got a Werner Kalliste earlier this year and it made a huge
different. You said it - light weight
and awesome texture. In a few put-ins
that are hard to get into the boat the paddle is strong enough to lean on as an
outrigger. I don’t think people get the
advantages of a higher end paddle, I know I didn’t.

Exactly right, most paddlers don't know what they're missing out on when they stay with a heavy fiberglass (or, ugh, a plastic paddle). I'd like to see really nice kayaks made out of carbon fiber with the same strength as these paddles. Unfortunately the carbon kayaks out there right now are not doing so well in the strength and reliability categories.
