As a toddler, I stepped on a needle that had fallen into carpet and not located before I stepped on it. The tip snapped off in my big toe. It became swollen and infected so a doctor had to surgically remove the needle tip. There was no anesthetic or freezing and I recall that pain to this day over 5 decades later. These Palestinian babies, children, women and men, the doctors and medical proffessional who have to operate with nothing. The horror and helplessness is numbing. The trauma will last generations.

Many do not see the jumping off place as the conflation...maybe because it was so far back in human history. But the simple awareness of ancient social orders and, therefore, ancient economies, (ones that some call 'human economies') brings the opportunity to start the focus there and consider that not everything "modern" has come as a 'progression' of greater truth and accuracy. I like that some have the courage to express respect for the ancient human economies and hope that citing anthropological sources like Graeber means that the 'anthro analysis' does not have to remain limited to ancient currencies that "mediate the human economy and the spirit world."
Brett Scott in a recent paper points to the problem of the present day "reductive focus on the movement of commodified goods." My intent is to put the focus back to the 'mediation' within these 'human economies' and to point out that bookkeeping is that simple mediation process of keeping records for the eventual resolution of human interactions in an open and inclusive manner such that none are un-accounted for, and no commodities are in need of protection or imposed on colonized peoples.
Maybe the discourse will present the opportunity to add these thoughts.
My thanks to Marc Gauvin for bringing this focus and my attention to that historical moment of mistaken reasoning along with the peaceful process of resolution such an awareness can bring.

There is no equivalence - On the 7th, there were no direct attacks on civilians, only collateral damage. Out of the 769 names on the Haaretz dataset, 462 were military personnel, including 55 soldiers, 13 privates, 59 corporals, 200 sergeants (45 of whom were sergeant majors), 48 commanders, 32 lieutenants, 5 lieutenant colonels, 6 colonels, 37 officers, 10 inspectors, 6 intendents, and 2 Lance Corp. This was a military defeat, and they are taking it out on the rest.
On the 7th, it is crucial to understand that there were no direct attacks on civilians, only collateral damage. Out of the 1148 total names, 403 were military personnel, 59 belonged to the police, and 668 were civilians. The collateral damage on the 7th was significantly lower than any of the ITf "mowing" operations, which had a ratio of 6:1. When including all casualties, not just deaths, the collateral damage ratio of the "mowing" operations is a staggering 162:1. On the 7th, with 462 military personnel out of 1148 total, the ratio of civilians to military personnel was a mere 1.6:1, which is a hundred times lower than the 162:1 ratio of the "mowing" operations based on analyzing UN OHC data from 2008 to 2022.

How was the response when you showed the Moving Forward film to your community? Was there any community building organizations or actions that followed? That seems to be the biggest challenge. Lots of good organizations out there but no really system changing in vision or practice.
I'm hopeful with Peter's next Zeitgeist film, Requiem, coming out in March of this year, that it will follow with a strategic talk by Peter about how we can actually get a better society by how we create a parallel system of contribution to our community, building prosperity and abundance for all, so we can get away from corporate crapfest!

We're all derivative of every prior (damaging) experience, but I just ask you to try and develop this "model observer" in yourself. It'll help you in advocating for the enlightened ideals that PJ has shined a light on so eloquently and artfully.
Please always remember to mention that most civilians killed on October 7 were by Israeli gunfire. The operation was a military operation to capture hostages to free the thousands of Palestinian detainees that the world has forgotten about.

The arguments of “this is the way it is” and “if we don’t do [evil thing] someone else will” was all the Machiavelli guys in my classes ever said during my Political Science degree in 2017. It was all they lived for, they were not there to solve problems, to uplift quality of life for humanity, their dream was to play the dictator in their world conquest games. Mine was to be a part of the anti-war movement, everyday was a reminder of why we are colonizers and war mongers, it’s because of them, they all go on to be lawyers or work in business, the next generation of capitalist, strongman obsessed bigots.

How soon we forget history. We are asked over and over again, not to forget the Holocaust, and yet, the Palestinians are treated the same way or worse relatively speaking. What is crazy is that the Palestinians are Semites! They have probably more pure bloodlines than any of the Jews that subsequently settled there. The only reason this is important is to point out the root of this atrocity is racism. Israel was implanted as a state to establish western power In the mid east, period. There is a deeper spiritual conflict at play that I will leave off except for this. The end game is not good unless you are a believer of miracles. No matter your belief, Israel is NOT justified.

PJ's writings & lectures enlightened me on the promise of automation (AI) in improving governance, thereby grounding my interests in societal good.
Have you heard his Revolution Now podcast? Very intellectually satisfying for me. A voice of sanity and fresh breath of air.
