Can this tiny robot mow our runway? That was the question I've had since we got the Luba 2 Lawnmower.
I put it through the ultimate test! not only is our runway massive, it's far away from our house for the robot to get to.
All I can say is that we have been super happy with the Luba 2 for our mowing needs.

That is the best commercial Luba will ever have for their robot. LMAO well done.
The best part of your channel is that you never know what you’re going to get but it’s always fun and entertaining.
Two suggestions from another Luba lover - use the checkerboard pattern & vary the angle of the mow for each run. This will help to avoid uncut grass from always following the same pattern.

Great video. Not being able to return in charge automatically in time is a pretty big fail for a robot lawnmower. It goes in at 15% Evidently, it doesn't take into account the length it has to drive return to charge correctly.
One would hope that it will adjust itself based on such failures.
@@ulbuilder I have three of these robots. Over two years I've now never seen them return home at anything other than exactly 15%. Even if it has one more minute of work to do, it will return at 15% to charge and then go back out to finish that one minute of mowing after an 80% charge, or here the opposite was the problem it didn't return soon enough 🤣 So I don't think there's any smarts behind the battery charging. It's just 15% no matter what.
@@Crazypostman this is correct. It's a very rudimentary setup. There's a lot of improvements that could be made. Not sure how much they will invest in making those improvements, though.
That was an operator fault, at 6:15 he startet the mower and it returned to the point where he started it by pushing the buttoms on the robot.

I HATE mowing, like with an unhealthy degree of burning hatred, and I have a rider. Our summers are usually in the 90's most days with humidity that tries to match the temp some days, if it wasn't for my HOA I would never water it and wait till fall and have a local farmer come and bail it.
I only have about 1/2ac of grass but I might have to seriously look at a "Billy" of my own.

The manufacturer should have it learn the distance back to the charger from wherever it is, and calculate that into its return time. Free Billy!
I don't know why, but when you went out the door to see it didn't make it back to charge, my mind went to some weird movie in which the robot mower was really trying hard to impress you, but got so emotionally distraught when it was trying to hurry back to charge and didn't make it.
It was even more emotional when you were telling Billy what he could be doing if he didn't have mow the grass.. At least, that's how I heard him say it in his thoughts...
You could very easily turn this into some little movie series where y'all work out things to have the mower do and turn it into things like that.
Jonas I wonder if you could use the brains of that thing as a controller and plop it on top of a metal structure with a wider more powerful mower or other kind of field tool with bigger motors actually powering the cutters. A Jonas style robot tractor. Love me some Marcinko shenanigans. Never a dull moment.

On a similar but different note, there is an outfit out of Cheney KS, greenfield robotics that is working on robots like these to mow and control weeds in between rows of corn, they also were working on robotic movable paddocks for sheep.
So picture a 16x32 enclosure with a dozen sheep going down and back up the runway and around the yard. Turning the grass into fertilizer and protein, all while self replicating.

a little point of slight contention... it's not AI. it's just code with a simple user interface.
and while i haven't finished the video yet, they may cut with a small blade, they may have a limited range and limited battery... they may disappoint most people the first few cuts, but as soon as it's just maintaining a clean cut, they'll do spectacularly
Pretty soon there will be laws against abuse of AI lawn mowers. Little miss is growing so fast. If you don't get a pony she'll want a saddle on the mower.
I saw one mowing the fairway around the green on the golf course behind my house. Actually, there were two of them mowing a designated area in tandem. My first thought was in looked good and my second thought it displaced several seasonal Mexican workers. Also, they didn't make any bothersome noise.

I love traditional hard work like mowing, but the fact these mowers can work 24/7 and keep the grass constantly perfect is better than what a human can achieve.

Can you program more acres than what the Luba is listed for? Like the LUBA 5000 is good for 1.25 acres, can you have 2.5 acres worth of zones programmed into it?

I believe the only difference in models is larger battery sizes. So a lower model would need to charge more often.
I’m not totally sure though.
As cool as this is, you should really just buy a used Ventrac and a Tough Cut or Finish Mower for it. You’ll have fun operating the equipment and the Ventrac will be super useful for all sorts of tasks you’ll have around the farm.
You gonna need Luba 2.0 for that...

It does a good job cutting depending on what you consider a good job on cutting me I don't think that does close to how good I can do with a push mower or rotary

good question. I actually don't know. you can set it in the app to overlap as much as you want on each pass.

That's a lot of money just to cut a runway. I could cut that runway with my $500 Farmall cub with its belly mower for a lot less than the cost of that toy.

lol as far as robot mowers are concerned, that is an extra large one.
90% of them only have one 7 inch or 6 inch disk cutting under them and this actually has two. 👊
I was super tempted to buy one until every time you used it. It never made it back to the charger.

They need to fix the algorithm for the recharging so that it makes it back otherwise I don’t wanna have to worry about it every time it goes out
If your runway is as far as ours is you would want to get the larger model.
I’ve never had to go get it while it’s just mowing the lawn around the house.
