    No problems whatsoever with mine. The only downfall are the stiff tuners that I’ll replace but I did put a new harness in mainly to improve the volume and tone taper. Just had to drill out the control plate to fit the bigger pots and jack plate

      I rewired and replaced everything except the pickups with a Stew Mac Premium wiring kit. I replaced the control plate with a Fender one because I didn’t want problems with the chrome plating chipping or pealing after drilling. I did drill out the stock knobs however instead of replacing them.

    This randomness is the problem with Squiers. They save money by not doing QC, so you might luck out and get a fantastic one... But you're more likely to get a below average one, and your odds of getting a crappy one is pretty high.

    • @Mountainrock70
      @Mountainrock70  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Made in Mexico Telecasters are 3-5 piece bodies all the same. I had one that was built well, but I did not like the neck feel and the pickups were super dull sounding. This Squier I got ironed out well and probably was not a prime example rather a fluke?

    I think the fit and finish on the CV bridge plate is better than a lot of aftermarket parts. Even the Fender looks a little rough on the corners. I have a 60’s CV Tele, and so far so good with it.

    • @Mountainrock70
      @Mountainrock70  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fender plates have corners the way they are because they were made to have the clamshell or ashtray cover plate installed on top.

      Andertons ordered a run of purple lefties of the 50s CV. Waited almost two years for it because Squier kept pushing back the date (probably cos of all those 40th anniversary models they made).
      Andertons said they noticed QC issues on the first batch they received so I waited a few more days.
      The first one I received was almost perfect and I would have kept if it weren't for the fact the some of the frets were high - especially the third fret. Unplayable.
      Sent it back got the replacement. Frets on that perfect. We were in the middle of moving home so it got put away.
      A few weeks later I noticed the bridge is crooked. Plays ok but it looks so sloppy. Ive decided to keep, bought new tuners for it.
      My lefty G&L bluesboy is poorly put together too. For the time being I have a nut between the high e saddle and the edge of the bridge to move the strings away from the edge of the fretboard. Despite this, I kept the guitar because the components are good and I have it playing well enough now.
      My 2 two cheap JET branded guitars which are half the price put the G&L to shame.
      I have a 2009 G&L Indonesian made Legacy and that also its bridge misaligned with the high e string really close to the edge of the fretboard. Put me off buying ankther G&L for many years. The sad thing is the pickups on those guitars and the PTB are stunning. The components are very good. Assembly is poor.

      @@nikolaki with these guitars the CNC process routes out the body perfectly only for someone to hack the guitar adding finishing touches like bridge placement. • @nikolaki
      @nikolaki ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mountain Rock it does beggar belief that the good the CNC machines have brought in is ruined this way.
      As regards the G&L Legacy that was sorted by cutting and shimming the sides of the neck pocket...
      The ASAT bridge will have to be reseated for sure!
      I thought it could be down to the craftsmen not being used to lefty instruments but it seems guitars the right way round are coming out this way regularly too.

    It seems pretty simple really. Just drill out the control plate to fit the CTS pots, rewire it with the existing switch, or better yet get a four way switch for the extra pickup combination. Also, continue with the fill and drill on the body, then just use the Squier plate, it’s fine. While you have it in this state, level, bevel and polish the frets taking care of any sharp ends, tidy up the nut as required, you’re gonna love the result. Keep those other Fender spares for another project down the line. Keep in mind, this is a CV Squier, not an Am Fender. Let the Squier be the best it can be, and appreciate it for what it is. That’s my 5min worth. Enjoy

    The classic bridge plates are pretty thin, in general. Part of the tone, I suppose.
    I prefer thick ones. Matter of taste.
    I have a 72 Deluxe Classic Vibe, and over the next few years it will end up with nothing left but the body.
    Don’t get me wrong. I think it’s a great guitar out of the box.
    But the pickups don’t have the Wide Range sound. It’s a good sound, just not what I need.
    I’m putting an aluminum neck and high-mass bridge with a single, huge, brass, custom-intonated saddle on it to get pedal/lap steel feel to the sustain. I play more blues and rock than country, but that tone!
    The fact that the bridge will be using a different screw position and I’m stringing thru-tail makes the the potential problems with drilling a non-issue for me personally, but wow that looks awful! The ferrules look fine on him, too.
    Pickguard is probably gonna be aluminum if not non-magnetic steel, too.
    The pots had to be changed immediately. 250k with humbuckers just doesn’t work for me.
    It’s the ship of Theseus!

    Seems to me there’s no need to replace the bridge or the control plate - or the switch or wiring, for that matter. Just dowel and re-drill the screw holes straight, ream or round file the pot holes larger, reconnect, shield, and voila! Bob’s your uncle!

    • @Mountainrock70
      @Mountainrock70  ปีที่แล้ว

      Problem was the pots, caps and jack were junk and the bridge plate was damaged from the butchery. Reaming the pot holes will chip the chrome plating. My uncle Bob died.

    • @MattWhatsGoinOn
      @MattWhatsGoinOn ปีที่แล้ว

      Nonsense. I said nothing about the pots, caps, or jack. So, suit yourself on that - or anything, for that matter. Beyond that, you said the switch was ok, and wire is wire; and if you think Orange Drops are the Holy Grail, think again. Tossing a Cough Drop - like a Hall’s Mentho-lyptus - into the control cavity will improve things just as much.
      I’ve drilled holes for controls between the Volume & Tone, no problem. The nut & washer easily cover any rough edges. And it looks like there’s plenty of bevel on that better looking bridge plate’s holes and accompanying screws to cover the keyholing, physically and functionally.
      And Bob was still your uncle, dead or alive. 😳

      @@MattWhatsGoinOn With screws placed into the damaged plate light could be seen due to key holing. I replaced the control plate for $11 but drilled out the control knobs to fit the CTS pots. As for caps this Squier only used one. So why not just buy 2 new ones for the new pots you cheap skate lol I like to see vintage wire in all my guitars because I can. The Fender switch turned out to be dead quiet when switching back and forth, so totally worth paying the extra $20 and now I have the old switch for a spare or future parts caster. Thats funny, because I bought a CV Strat the first year of the series back in 2008 and it was a dud. Never gave Squiers another look after that. This Tele played and sounded great with minimal tweaks out of the box, and I expected the electronics would need replacing, but this is straight up poor building practices. They are drilling holes with unskilled hands and not CNC or a drill press.
      After buying this and it playing good I bought the Squier Jazzmaster 40th Anniversary and it is not even close to playable out of the box in a big way. Haven’t dug into it yet but it will be the last one. I’ve had a couple MIM Fenders I was not happy with either. Ill be building my own Fender style guitars from now on.

    One needs to expect electronic problems to show up even in expensive guitars. And if you work on expensive guitars you will see things that you will not believe.
    This is a Squire. This is a matter of scale.
    After all is considered Squires are very decent guitars.
    Any guitar is better than no guitar.

    Lol what's the issue here the tele or fender parts made in Korea. Already paying a lot for fenders if they made that metal in American be another 100 dollars or so added to cost lol but seriously what's wrong with the bridge holes? For being done by hand they seen to fine. The holes didn't break the volume pot. But that volume pot tanking sucks which is funny cause seems the whole video was about holes and foreign sheet metal production. I think you may of blew things out of proportion

    • @Mountainrock70
      @Mountainrock70  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The holes were drilled at horribly crooked angles causing the screw heads to not make full contact on the bridge plate. This also caused string alignment issues. The pot does not bother me. Thats what brought me to take the guitar apart.
