He’s probably the best example of a character not being the bad guy, just on the wrong side. My disappointment with this movie is directly related to how his story ended - he needs a redemption arc at least. He’s not evil.

He's the film's antagonist. He murdered his family, some would frown on that, even call it evil.

@@jah2032 Get out of here with that nonsense, lol. One perspective is wrong, obviously. Who cares if Ikarus had to keep a secret, the poor baby. That did NOT give him the right to kill his kin. He's the obvious villain. It's not debatable, he killed himself, because he couldn't live with the GUILT of his own actions, so your perspective is flawed as well. Ikarus knew he didn't act right, you're just a little slow.

he is just a man trying to hold on to everything his love for his family and wife and his duty to the celestials. but deep inside there is a man who is broken into thousands of pieces all he want is to cut loose from everything it didn't happen so he killed himself finally he found the peace he ahs been looking for thousands of years. Forgive me for the long essay this is my perspective on ikaris character
For me ajak is the real ( moraly villain) of the movie she used ikaris like a puppet he did what ever she said
    1. ajak rather than telling secret of their mission to everybody but she only told ikaris which killied him inside.
    2. He lied to all the eternals because ajak don't want other eternals to know about their true purpose of their mission.
    3. Ikaris left serise because he couldn't live the guilt of lieing to her about their mission and don't want to broke her heart by telling the truth and don't want to betray ajak by telling the truth.
    4. Ajak always told ikaris to be loyal to the celestials because of that he made himself disconnected with the humans.
5.when ajak wants to betray the celestials ikaris couldn't stant on her side because he did everything she said he sacrificed his love for the fellow eternals. That really pissed him of to the extension to kill her and turn against his family. And ajak accept before she died that it was her fault that ikaris goes down this path.
    6. for 5000 years he has gone through so much pain and suffering all alone in a world that is going to end oneday. he is the victim of ajak's fault.
    7. In the end his whole life became a lie he couldn't live his life fullest of the happiness and couldn't complete the mission, he lost his whole fucking life, and he had nothing to live for so he killed himself, the moment he entered the sun, all those years of pain and suffering, all those years of burden turn into ashes, at last he finally attain peace that he is been looking for the whole time.
For me akaj is the trigger point. And ajak never get her memories erased all the other eternals get their memory erased. Ajak know everything what they all did in other planets. And all the dead eternals will come back that's why they introduce the world forge.

I don't agree, both of them knew the truth. Ajak and Ikaris both did their duty. Ajak needed a successor in case she would disappeared, so she chose Ikaris because she knew he was like her: "I can feel your loyalty to Arishem". If you consider Ajak as a villain, so Ikaris is one too : they had same kind of loyalty to Arishem.
For example Sirse or Duig would have refused.
But Ajak has always tried to soften Ikaris by allowing him to love whoever he wants, and he went out with Sersi thanks to her. This means that Ajak is not bad, she is naive.
This is the big difference between the two: Ajak discovered that she was blinded by her loyalty to Arishem, and that she was naive. So she chose to save lives. Unlike Ikaris who even wanted to kill his family.
We always have the choice , we are villain by choice and never by accident. Ajak and Ikaris had the choice. Ikaris choose to sacrifice lives even he knew it's bad... that why he cried. He is a true villain.
" You don't save lives by sacrificing a life, especially a friend " - Captain America
Arishem is the true villain if you ask me. The Eternals are victims of his will.

@@a.v.s7535 well if u think there is no definitive villain in this movie. And first of all all the eternals belived in aresham like ikairs did that their mission was eleminate the deviants until they know the truth and about the choice ikairs had 1. Tell the truth to everyone and betray ajak and put the whole mission at risk and if other eternals stoped the emergence it will be on him because he is the one told the truth to everyone not ajak or 2. Lie to everyone be loyal to ajak and to the mission. 3. If he decides he doesn't want to do both and decide kill himself if he does that everyone would think that they did something wrong that's why he killed himself and more than that he wanted to live a life with sersi and with his family And about ajak yes she told ikairs to live a life for himself and he did though but she herself destroyed it by telling the truth only to him and make him go through all those pain by himself. And ajak is not the innocent one here ajak never gets memory wiped she has all those memories of all the other planets that they been and she is absolutely fine with destroying all other planets that they been and she is absolutely fine with all of her family members getting memories wiped (literally killing them) and she is absolutely fine with lying to the whole family for millions and millions of years and ur telling me she is the innocent one, and about the choice ajak had she is the only one who had the choice whether to go with the mission or stop it in each and every planet. But she was fine with pursue with the mission Since the beginning. Ajak is the starting point of ikairs downfall.

@@blackpanther6885 i understand your empathy for Ikaris, but he remains a criminal even if his entourage contributed to it. For example, If a person kills his brother, the lawyer in court will invoke the social environment that influenced him to reduce his sentence, but he is still guilty, that is a fact.
About Ajak, she is certainly guilty nobody can deny it. Moreover I suspect her to have used the strength and loyalty of Ikaris to carry out each mission on each planet.
But you see the point is not to choose which of the two is more guilty, but rather which of the two knowingly decided to finally recant to erase his guilt. Ikaris refuses to repant... so he is a villain.
Ikaris knowingly preferred to continue killing his brothers for a purpose. Unlike Ajak who felt guilty, and wanted to tell the truth.
At the very end, Ikaris lost not by strength, but by love for Sirse. Seeing that he was just as selfish as the Eternals, that he couldn't sacrifice what he loves for the mission, he felt guilty. But it was too late. In his pride he can't neither look his brothers in the face, nor celestial, and prefers to kill himself: it's pure pride and cowardice. I like the complexity of Ikaris' character, but nobody can deny that he is a villain. A good villain.

@@a.v.s7535 i am not saying what he did was right i am saying what he did was wrong, and other thing is ikairs didn't know the truth about their mission on each planet earth is the first mission that ajak decided to tell the truth to someone and that is ikaris. if ikairs is selfish then so does ajak she never felt any connection any other planets so she just had her concentration only on mission and she carried out the mission and after coming to earth for the first she felt that connection so she starts to love earth and it's people so she doesn't want to lose them so she changed her mind. if ikaris is a villian so does ajak. obviously they both are guilty of what they have done to their family and to each other. That's what makes them as a complex character.

I agree 100%, as much as I initially thought Ajak was cool I felt she really messed stuff up.
I could've forgiven her had she come back to her senses, even Ikaris said "I know its hard at the end, but..." and that much I could understand. She was a kind and empathetic person and thought Earth was special, fine, but she should've attempted to speak with Arishem on the topic at least one more time. As seen with Sersie, Arishem is willing to let a planet go if the case made for it being special is strong enough, but instead she tried to abandon the mission completely and plot against him, and Ikaris wasn't gonna have that.
Overall, even Kingo agreed that they weren't the bad guys, and although he wasn't willing to kill his family like Ikaris, I understand why Ikaris was so adamant to fight the others. That said, I'd gave gone the Kingo route. Accept what needs to happen and, if no alternative way to end it, enjoy the last moments of Earth, like Kingo did with his friend and his group of actors

who ever hating ikaris hear me out
If phastos know the truth like ikaris did he would have never met ben and have kid, if kingo know the truth he would have never became the movie star he is, if everyone knew the truth like ikaris did they will either accept the truth and move on or fight against aresham. he sacrificed his own happiness to keep ajak's secret for fucking 5000 years and in the end it's all for nothing.

Alright I have to rant somewhere, but Ikaris is not a bad guy. He is a soldier, he follows orders. To make matter even worse he follows a religious creature, Arishem was supposed to be like their god. He wasn’t allowed to question if Arishem is wrong, so when he was told of the actual mission he, in a sense, gave up. He found out that for thousands of years he was used, he didn’t think he could do anything to change it. So being the faithful soldier he is he kept quiet. Then there’s the fact he was told like right after Sersi and him got together, he was lying like the whole time they were together! He later left her because he couldn’t handle lying to her when you saw how much she loved humanity. Then later on when he killed Ajax he was questioning everything. Ajax always knew the plan, she had faith in Arishem. But then after thousands of years of him having to lie to Sersi and the others she changes her mind. That shakes everything, because commanders are not supposed to change their minds. Later when Sersi was yelling at Ikaris she tells him that Ajax loved him, but he just responded by asking did she really? He doesn’t know anymore. As for him threatening the rest of the gang to him they weren’t really dying. He thought as soon as the emergence happened they would be reset, all fine and dandy. Ikaris didn’t really think he was killing them. Ajax truly picks the right person to find the truth because while he didn’t think he was really killing them Ikaris would never hurt Sersi. I know a lot of people like the other relationships in the movie, but I really like Ikaris and Sersi. Their interactions were interesting and Ikaris is one of the best underrated character written in awhile.
