Understanding Employment Equity: The Prohibition of Unfair Discrimination (Part 2 of 3)

  • LEARN ABOUT THE EMPLOYMENT EQUITY ACT
    One of the purposes of the Employment Equity Act is to prohibit or eliminate unfair discrimination. The elimination of unfair discrimination is regulated by section 5 and 6 of the Employment Equity Act. It should be noted that the Employment Equity Act only prohibits unfair discrimination and not discrimination.
    In this video, amongst other things, I explain the purpose and the application of the Employment Equity Act in so far as it relates to the prohibition of unfair discrimination. Moreover, I briefly discuss the meaning of "employment policy or practice", including the difference between direct and indirect discrimination. Section 6 of the Employment Equity Act provides protection against unfair discrimination to employees - this includes job applicant.
