- The SpinTV & HyzerCinema present: Building the Bag part two!
With almost an endless amount of different discs in the market, how do you choose the right ones? How to build a bag that covers the various shots you need to make on the various courses you play? 2009 World Champion Avery Jenkins has been living the life of a professional Disc Golfer for over 13 years. The years on tour have taught Avery a lot about shot selections, different disc models and how the discs perform under various conditions.
Being well-known as not only a great player, but also seasoned instructor of the sport, Avery knows what discs suite different skill levels & playing styles. In this 2nd video of the 2-part series, Avery introduces different drivers that are recommended for varying skill levels. All of the discs seen in these videos have been proven as versatile and extremely dependable - No matter if you're a beginner or a pro, you can rest assured that these discs will help you improve your game.

Watching part 1 and 2 and hearing the names of all the disks I used to throw with friends back home at the park or at all the different courses brings back the good old days
Wraiths and teebirds.. classics for a reason
I throw the Tern. Its definitely one of my favorite discs
I love how you said that all of the discs in the innova starter pack are great because it’s true
Great video with a great discgolfer and the best discs on the planet!!!
Well at :31 seconds you can see that this man is repping NC State. Mad respect
Yessir. My Alma Mater!
I got champion valkyrie and i LOVE IT
Nothing about destroyer though? I guess you are talking about discs for wide range of players with an emphasis on beginners. I consider myself as an intermediate to advanced and love the destroyer as my driver. Thanks for posting.
It's all about how much power and technique you've got. A smarter advice is to talk about more diverse disc selection than to talk about discs with much less forgiveness than the destroyer- it requires much more skill/power than a tern or katana
ATurtlePuncher Umesh Chaudhari Thanks for the responses! I'm sure many people feel like Umesh, and it's no surprise, the Destroyer is a great disc. We wanted to gear this video towards more beginning-to-intermediate level players that may not have the consistency in technique to throw destroyers well. ATurtlePuncher hit the nail on the head, we're trying to stay with more forgiving molds so that we're suggesting discs that are fun to throw for less experienced golfers. We will be making more supplementary videos however, that will continually explore the HUGE topic that we've only begun to cover, so stay tuned!
Until the Champion Destroyer was invented in 2011 when I got that disc I used a Valkyrie as my main driver. I now have two Destroyer both Champion One is 167 grams the other is 170 grams but got one a year later in 2014. I still use my Valkyrie as my main driver both 170 grams but one is star plastic for the winter and when I can't grip with the Champion. I use the Destroyer still but for shots when I need a hyzer shot. I also use the Destroyer for hook shots as well.
Since I made the comment two years ago, I have learnt a lot about discs and destroyer is definitely not intended for beginner or intermediate players until you develop a power to throw more than 350 ft. This video was intended for building bags for beginner to intermediate players not for advanced or pro players. I would recommend similar discs as Avery says in the video. Yes, Casey, Valkyrie is a great disc for beginners ; I bag couple of them throw and throw above 350 feet and can crush destroyer up to 450 ft. THE DESTROYER WAS INVENTED WELL BEFORE 2013 THOUGH. I think it was invented in 2009.
I was meaning the Champion Destroyer though it was made in 2011, when I got the first one, then got second one in 2013. I have since then in 2016 I have gotten the disc to throw flat. I do use it best for hyzer/hook shots when thrown at more Valkyrie speed or power.
The Wraith is my favorite driver of all time. Dead accuracy 350 ft. Hizers great, s shots great. I can skip it nicely if i want to.
The destroyer is a close second.
Ive got a beat in Gstar wraith that I can hyzer flip or power down to throw dead straight in the woods, 11/10 would recommend.
he's right!!! leopards are probably the straightest and most self correcting discs out there from my experience.
+zakkari matherly Or the mako, its amazing.
I love the Valkyrie as a main driver one a Champion and the other a Star though I have two Destroyers one a 167 gram and the other a 170 gram in Champion plastic. I use the Destroyers when I need a good hyzer shot.
My first post I can now throw the Destroyer stright.
3:28 Avery aims for the walkers.. lol
Leopard is a great flip hyzer disc. The Valkyrie flies very strait and is a very good beginner distance disc.. The wraith is a good hyzer flip distance driver and will S Curve like he said... Now being that I throw Trilogy plastic let me say that for beginners I recommend latitude 64 Jade (Distance driver), latitude 64 Diamond (Fairway driver), Latitude 64 Pearl (mid Range) this is the "easy to use" line by latitude 64.
Good video overall, for most people at the skill level that can actually use bag building advice I would probably stop at the Valk speed level. The exception being a Mamba. Teebird, Eagle, and TL are all great discs and in the same speed range.
What's a good upgrade for my dad from the leopard. When he lost his first I got him an axiom crave, but he just didn't like it, so I gave him my leopard. But he's finally getting to where it turns far right. He probably wants something of a similar speed glide and fade just more stable.
Ryan Burgess this is extremely late but teebird is good. just point and shoot
My fav discs are katana and leopars
I use Mamba and Leopard3.
Avery is a cool ass dude.
If you don't throw far, is the Katana too much of a disc to be using? I'm a bit confused on what I should be using. The Katana has definitely helped my distance, but I think the speed may be too much for me.
The advice to find a slower disc is more about control than distance. Theoretically you can find a disc that flies similar to a Katana but is easier to control where it lands. As discs lose speed they hyzer out, so if your shots consistently stall and hyzer you may be throwing a disc that is too fast. The best way to figure it out is a good practice session in an open field.
All you need for fairway drivers is 2 tee birds beat in so one finishes left and the other right
No love for the sidewinder?
So if I want to take the next step up from the Leopard, what should that be? I love that driver, but I can't get the distance I want. My local course has a fair number of sharp doglegs which is the one I want to master before I move on to other courses.
Then all you need is a firebird if you can thriw firehand and backhand. If you only throw backhand try a roadrunner for those righthand turns
viktor norrman this is late but if you’re starting to develop an arm, go teebird3. it is very good and my brother uses it and can get about 150-200 ft. however, if you’re weak like me, i’d go leopard3. it’s slightly faster but it is a tad bit more over stable than the leopard, but it is considered more a turnover disc than an over stable driver
I had a wraith but lost it to a tree today ;( but that disc was amazing. But I can only throw distance drivers forehand and make them still go 300ft. Any tips for how I can throw backhand as far as forehand?
+Matt Weierke A lot of people when they follow through they make the disc go up in the air, so try to release the disc at the same angle as you started, that helped me a lot. Also try not to rip the disc as hard as you can in the beginning, just try to go flat and get a good follow through.
Is there any disc's that just go completely straight? And are you aloud to modify the disc's of they are used in tournament play?
find a disk with the third number a zero or -1 and the last number as low to zero as possible.
leopard and teebird im my hands fly bullet straight
Im 12 and im throwing DDX .(12|6|-2|2) Is it good for me? i have good grip and
consistent flightpattern.
KARLOS Mercy ddx 12,5,1,2
Im 12 aswell and i throw boss annd it goes pretty far in my opinion
Whats the best distance driver for a max power thrower...I have a champion eagle fairway driver now and i feel like i over power it sometimes and it goes anhyzer on me. Any suggestions??
I'd start with a Boss or DD2 and work up from there. If you need a disc with more fade, go for a Destroyer, which is what many top pros choose as their distance driver. If you need less fade bring out the Katana.
DaSavage The eagle is a speed 7 , why don't you try an orc speed 10 or wraith speed 11 they both have the same flight pattern as the eagle
yup already moved up and using destroyers and wraiths now...god call boys
I saw that foot fault at 1:55
What a good reputable online retailer for discs?
There's lots of good pro shops that have a web presence. If you're looking for Innova or Discmania discs, I'd recommend going straight to the source, as both Innova and Discmania have an online pro shop!
infinitediscs.com is awesome. They've got a good selection, and I've gotten many orders from them with great satisfaction.
The editing has not aged very well😄😄 with all the breaks with loud rockmusik.
I like Teerexes more than the Wraith
Would love to see mvp thrown
These locations seem way too familiar.. hmm....
lleft out destroyers and bosses..... is he insane? the katana is shit! lol
+Froggies505 Those are good discs but way too stable for a beginner. If one needs help building one's disc bag he should probably not throw Destroyers or Bosses.
i started off throwing a boss. first disc i ever bought. and destroyer was the first disc i ever fell truly in love with.
@TheCynicalFinn I understand your point, but what is with players that are new and still have a strong arm from other sports? ;)
I like avery, but the editing in this very is annoyingly poop.
please for goodness sake stop with the broll cuts.
Would love to see mvp thrown
