I love SDR's because they're much more fun to operate than a standard receiver where you simply turn a VFO and have to listen for activity on a single frequency- one tuning increment at a time. SDR's allow you to 'see' a wide portion of the HF band for activity and after a period of time and experience you learn how to spot various signal 'signatures' for easy identification. Makes it easy to identify signals before clicking on it to receive :)

    (1) Yes. The board does come with the oscillator. (2) It snaps into place in a socket. No soldering. It does not take much time or work to get it setup. I'm currently using the SDR# software and the instructions on the rtlsdr web site were super simple to follow. Do a search for rtlsdr to find the site.

Great video, thanks for the demonstration. Very informative, I liked how to showed the installation and the calibration in the video not just an instantly working dongle on hf.
    Thanks again

To power the HF upconverter are you using a USB-B to USB-A cable and powering it from your computer USB port???

Ham Radio Science, Can you make a video on how to get started using R820T using the SDR Sharp software? My friend is getting started in VHF-UHF hobby listening and needs a tutorial to do it correctly. Thanks.

Mine was a fail. With the degen 10 m wire antenna I'm unable to catch anything but a AM station whose signal is strong in an AM radio but no in a r820t+ham it up, and there was lots of RFI.

The antenna used was an attic mounted 20M dipole. In other words not much :)

I am wondering where do you get the power cable for the Hamitup?

Walmart carries them among other stores. The original Ham-it-Up boards used a USB "mini-B" cable but the currently made boards use a standard USB cable, which is the same cable you would buy to attach a USB printer to your PC. They changed the USB mini-B connector to a standard (printer) style connector likely because they're easier to find, but either way you can purchase either cable at your local Walmart in the computer section, or any Office Depot, Staples or, God forbid, BestBuy.

It uses the type of USB cable that comes with most of the deskjet printers. In fact I had some old printers laying around so I just used one of those but you can order them really cheap nowadays from amazon. Here is one example...
      www.amazon.com/PhotoSmart-Printer-Cable-Cord-Feet/dp/B0032GVCP6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1418265574&sr=8-2&keywords=usb+printer+power

hamradioscience, the various websites that sell the board, v 1.2 as of now, need to post more specs such as general tuning range, etc. so prospective buyers and active users do not need to keep asking questions like that. Access to the support Forums is too time and effort consuming, and a few extra specifications out where prospective and active users can see them would be well received.

You dear, do you have interference with the pc in hf ? How do you remove the noise source power pc? Regards.

+Rodrigo José Ampuero Olivares You might be surprised, like I was, that there is very little interference. As long as you are using coaxial cables the signals are very clean. I use an RTL2832 and also an older WiNRADiO.

Is there a driver or other software needed for the dongle? Or, dare I use the driver included with the dongle? I read somewhere the Windows driver installation should be aborted. Thanks for any help in getting this done right.

Will this ham it up converter tune down below 500 kHz? Or do I need to connect a VLF converter to 4.010 to 4.500 into the input jack of the HF up converter?

Can this be used with dongles employing the AF9135 as opposed to the RTL 2832U?
Is there software to run DVBT AF9135 on its quoted fres, without and up converter?

2 questions, does the board come with the oscillator and does the oscillator need to soldered into place or does it just snap in??? i am looking to purchase both the dongle and the board from you, it this really hard to get going? is the most critical piece the antenna? I really want to get into shortwave and i am pretty computer savvy...

+Johan Sagaert The NooElec Mini 2+ is the best one. The oscillator and some other components are specially ordered for the Mini 2+ units.

That's an unfair blanket statement. All of mine, and the overwhelming majority of others NooELEC purchases were received properly, on-time and at a fair shipping fee.
