  • An early morning start at Kynance Cove in Cornwall, United Kingdom proved interesting as the light changed minute by minute. Not the usual early morning shots for a landscape photography and the sea spray proved a challenge but I enjoyed myself.

Nice video Paul. Great use of time getting in an early morning shoot and being done by 9.30. You captured some great images, totally different to my style and i think that's why I love them. These videos are brilliant for seeing different perspectives of other photographers and you always convey your thoughts in an entertaining way. The fast shutter speed shot was great and worth getting in the sea for. My favourite is the the thumbnail shot. Its always satisfying when you nail the brief opportunities that the weather and light provide us.

Tony that's a very kind comment. I made the best of the conditions on the day but to be fair it's the location that made the shots and I can't wait to go back as it has so much more to offer. I could spend months there :)

The shot with the rainbow and splash at the end where you had to go in the water are my fave.
That guy with beared appeared from no where. He looked a little bit like Game of Thrones character. For a moment I thought he, Tormund, was a guest star hehe.
Lovely location. Thank you for sharing. My son has been asking me about your camper van ... He now wants to know when am I buying it. 😊

Stunning film , as always......though i did spit tea all over the monitor with laughter at your face when the dude with the beard came up behind you and probably stopped a shot !!!!!.....and jesus i'd freak taking my little Sony A58 near the sea spray so fare play on risking the beast you use which brings me onto a question . Do you fancy the D850 ? Which you've probably been asked a 1000 times by now ......Image of the day was the rainbow one followed closely by words of the day "Sod it" which is indeed grass !!!!!!!!!!!!!!..........keep safe Paul .....bacon on bread (chilli and mayo !!!!!!!!!!!!)

    • @PaulGJohnsonphotography
      @PaulGJohnsonphotography  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The d850 is the only camera that would tempt me away from my current camera and it is a goal to get one eventually. The dude shocked me and walked straight in front of the camera but he has as much right to the beach as me :) Awesome comment thanks Bill .

Paul, another set of great shots. Particularly like the last freeze shot! I've recently added Lynne Luxon-Jones to my list of must-watch landscape photographers. Take a look at her "2 days of long exposures, seascapes and a windmill". She is using, and highly recommends, snow shoes (feet), which you can see on her tripod in the video. A step-up from the set of 3 old CD's!

Hello Paul. Gorgeous video as always. I've been in Kynance Cove only twice - it's a long way from Germany - but it is always exciting and I am pretty sure that I have to come back, as I still didn't take the ultimate shot of this stunning (copyright by Thomas Heaton 😁) landscape.

Very nice. Wish we had some coast like that near where I live. Might I suggest getting at set (of three) Gitzo G1586 "snowshoes". They work really well in the surf. As I recall, they were about US$30 when I got mine. Manfrotto owns Gitzo, so you should be able to find them fairly easily.

Paul, thanks for sharing your morning experience and it's stunning results with so much simplicity and generosity. I live in the FrenchJura mountains (close to Switzerland), far from the sea, but you made me smell the salted water, hear the sound of crashing waves and feel the pleasure of making (not capturing) strong images.

Enjoyed the variety of the shots you took, the fast speed shot looked great but very risky on the pricey gear you have.
I have yet to buy a ND grad and try the very long exposures which look really amazing.
I hope to get the first from Santa, Could you help me please, which density do you use most and recommend ?
Along with a 10 stop ND , If you had only 1 ND grad would it be 2 stops or 3 stops ?
. I have taken some pics at Kynance cove myself a few years ago , but mine look plain now.
Thanks for the entertaining and informative filming.

    • @PaulGJohnsonphotography

6 stop Bobby. The 3 stop is great but not used so much as you can achieve the same by stopping down. Re ND grad , 3 stop soft edge to start

Another great video Paul. I've been to Kynance Cove on several occasions, but never been able to get a shot I really liked - may be have to take your lead and go for a more intimate shot next time. There's some great places to shoot down in that area, Mullion Cove, Gunwalloe with Church Cove next to it where the church sits apart from it's steeple, and of course Lizard Point. Enjoy.

Hi Ben thanks for the comment. If I'm scouting and area for a shoot then the internet is my first port of call. I usually have two or three locations in mind then head out for a recce. If the primary location isn't up to much from a compositional point of view (which is rarely the case ) I'll not stick with it but head to a secondary location which I am possibly more familiar with .

Stunning! My favourite of the lot is the B+W version of the third image. Just wondering what it would look like had a digital red filter been applied in post processing. It would make the sky a lot darker but then make the clouds a lot more of a contrasting element bringing more drama to the sky portion.
Great stuff, love the seascapes as well as your countrysides with those spectacular stone walls.
Also, great drone videos. Especially like the direct overhead views, awesome.

    • @PaulGJohnsonphotography

In all the months I've been watching your videos I only just realised I wasn't subscribed. I know it's hard work, but keep on inspiring people.

I love Cornwall & your video & images have done it justice. I find if I rest my tripod on CD players it remains quite sturdy, even in the water. 😉

Stunning images Paul, last time I was at Kynance Cove, was after walking from Mullion cove and before Digital was invented, and was to afraid to get the camera wet and do what you did on this shoot, thoroughly enjoyed watching this, you have made my Sunday morning.

Great set of images Paul, I really love the shot with the big rock in the foreground and the rainbow in the background.

All wrapped-up by 09:30 in time for a bacon buttie :-) I know you've always excelled at your sea-scapes mate but these are (another) exceptional batch. Plus of course, you got to have a nice paddle by the sea-side :-)

Great video Paul, I love Cornwall and especially Kynance Cove and your images have captured it to a T (or should that be tea and bacon butty?)
Presumably the cafe just up from the beach wasnt open at that hour?
    Thanks a lot

I really liked the shots experimenting with the incoming waves and long exposures. I wish that there were some more seascape locations near me but maybe that'll be one of my next photography trips. Great video!

Paul, you had a great morning. Always a good idea to take both long exposures and faster exposures like 1/500th or faster to capture the waves at the critical moment. I never know until I get home and put the photos up on the screen which technique works best.

    • @PaulGJohnsonphotography
      @PaulGJohnsonphotography  7 ปีที่แล้ว

I think both techniques are great just depends on the mood you are trying to capture doesn't it :)

You, my friend, certainly have an eye for composing great photos. Hard to pick a favorite one, but I'd go with the one you posted to Instagram. Sounds like this is close to your home ..... lucky to be so close to so much beauty.

Another great video. Can I ask how much time you would spend processing the long exposure shots you included in the video? It looks like there is quite a bit of work gone on in Lightroom/Photoshop? I know that when I use my Zomei 10 stop ND although there is no real colour cast the image does need quite a bit of work to make it pop.

I very rarely use photoshop and it wasn't used on any of these shots . Jus standard use of sliders in LR so highlights blacks, whites shadows etc . I rarely if at all use clarity vibrance or saturation . Thanks and glad you liked the video buddy :)

Fantastic shots Paul. I loved the monochrome shots and the shots when the squall came in. I'll put Kynance Cove on my list of places to visit. Thanks for another excellent video.

Fantastic video Paul, I'm off to Kynance tomorrow morning to shoot. I've been a few times in the summer for the day but never to photograph. Watched this yesterday and its sown the seed to get up and drive down early tomorrow and hopefully get some great shots. Great video. Thank you
