Basically outpost to outpost is for small to medium ships, station to station trading is for medium to bulk freighters, and TDD's are an "endpoint" with no commodities to pick up. They buy the most amount but pay the lowest. So now it's easier than ever to stay on the move. As far as gold is concerned, it's all over the place.
