Facebook employees don't want to work alongside savagely intelligent people. Facebook's community manager was recently caught soliciting a kid. He was busted by a Chris Hansen type of youtube channel, and no news agencies reported on it. This world is completely overrun with the wrong people in tech, media, and government.

Traveled through peoples dreams made real....the world isn't black and white, good and evil...you aren't more enlightened than anybody.
And A.I. has already done so much good for society. A.I. may be our only chance to save life on this planet in the future. It's not scary killer robots like in hollywood.

VR is a long game. I don't think there can be a short game in it at all. At least at this point where the components that make money from it seem to be just the headsets.

As a huge lover of tech, I hope the metaverse bombs massively. We’re already disconnected from each other as it is, and making everything virtual is not where this world should headed. Also, every demonstration (even tho they’re fake mockups which you’d think would show it at it’s best) makes it look so lame and corny lol. Only tech heads will care. Mets can’t even get younger ppl to care about FB and Instagram gets worse every day
You typed this in the virtual. This is a more natural interface. Interfacing with screens is causing problems as we get too used to that as opposed to how we naturally communicate. This minimizes that as we will be communicating naturally with tech.

Well first it depends if it is running local or in the cloud in terms of privacy. They could charge you, making you the customer, or you are the product and business pays. As in what store does the salt come from and who will be delivering it, is an opportunity to profit.
They make money on game and app sales just like Sony and Microsoft do. It's part of the reason the headset is so cheap.
In all honesty I’m really against this, yes it would be helpful but I think that once kids start to use this then they will grow up with that. And I feel once that happens then we will become to dependent on the AI that we may even forget how to converse with people in the real world. For example, in this presentation they showed an example of how the AI helped him remember what pepper his mother liked, but I think that it’s healthier for the human mind to ask his mother instead of the AI telling it for him. Now with the mindset of this example let’s say that we are now years ahead we’re this AI is used constantly like how we use our phones, this would be a problem. The reason why is because if someone doesn’t know how to problem-solve on there own then without the AI we would most likely just be like babies, waiting for someone else to do something for us. I don’t mean to be rude, I know he is trying his best for the future of the world and humanity buttttt… this is not a good idea in the long run.

Wow, specially the part starting at 4:48 … Facebook/Meta is so disconnected … this feels like a dystopian movie. Having a "conversational" AI integrated in my glasses watching everything I do down to knowing that my recipe is originally from my mom. Imagine a conversation with other people and your "AI" assistant is intervening and praising you like a little child. Boy is this creepy! Do they really think that this is what people want?

This "vision" feels like a real life Anon (Movie with Clive Owen), the only difference is that in the movie we already envisioned the major dystopian implication of such technology. This "move fast and break thing" attitude is showing again and is not a good omen… for Facebook as a good candidate to carry the banner for on this one.

Definitely looks like a solution in search of a problem. You can see it being useful in certain training situations, sophisticated simulations, that kind of thing. Having the corporation continuously slurping up every millisecond of your day, though -- Zuckster can shove that up whatever orifice his legs-optional virtual self supports.

Exactly- I actually am into the idea of the metaverse, except the company leading the charge has proven in so many ways how dishonest they are. We can only hope a smaller company is able to innovate and become the next leader in meta tech

Why don’t you just focus on, human intelligence. Humans are very capable if we have the right nutrition and habits. We’re capable of so much more than you think, in terms of ability to do just about anything that sometimes only the great people have accomplished. If we focus on our natural selves, I believe, we can live a better, more enjoyable life ultimately. Go grow food on your 1600 acres and supply the public, you can probably feed all of Hawaii, to say the least with your 1600 acre property in Hawaii. Natural, organic food, for the population. Can always get more land to grow more food/ animals for sustainable food, for natural food without steroids, gmo etc. For the better of humanity.

I think people are fed up with corporations owning everything. The Metaverse needs to happen outside of boxes. Like in the early days of World Wide Web, when people didn't really know which Browser to use, and the browsers never required registration or a specific OS.
I remember it a little differently. About 5 minutes after what you described; Microsoft had adoption from 60+% of midsize to big businesses who used proprietary features only available in (Microsoft) Internet Explorer, and they then twisted the reference models and discussions so that websites would render incorrectly or differently if you used any of the browsers following the standards.
25 years later, the NHS is still not rid of these proprietary components and applications which locked them into a Microsoft ecosystem.
I'm not having a stab at Microsoft. Kudos to then for thinking ahead of the game, but I am having a go at every other player that makes short term decisions of huge long term impact. We are at the early stages of VR/AR adoption and development. I'm just saying we all need to keep an open mind and a far reaching outlook, because huge investment is needed in many areas. The research and development budgets required to take this ride the full journey, will be astronomical, but it doesn't mean small builders with innovation and creativity can't contribute. Keep an open mind, and open attitude.
Yes. The core issue is that corporations aren't free actors. At the end of the day, they need to keep their image clean to keep shareholders happy, and more importantly SELL STUFF. That hinders creativity and makes everything look bland, manufactured, and boring after it passed a myriad of meetings and consensus. Just like this video! (despite the technological achievements it displays)

The entire life of the internet has been a series of new ways of interacting with it.
