  • USE THE TIMESTAMPS. We have a weird episode today. The first half of this is talking about the con and setting up the table in detail, OLDSCHOOL style. The last half if completely just about talking about ai image generators.
To be clear, I don't REALLY care about ai. It was just such a heavy topic this particular weekend, and NOBODY WOULD STOP TALKING ABOUT IT. So pretty much all footage from the second half of the con was nothing but ai talk.

I know everyone prefers that format to the more narrative format.

Yeah man, theres no need to deep edit your videos. Like, my videos are HELLA extra for no reason other than that I enjoy editing on a personal level. I'm glad to see you putting out more artist alley videos though. Pretty much everyone I've talked to who is interested in making them eventually quits, probably because its a ton of extra work at the con.
How many shows do you have for 23?

My main concern with AI at this point (cause yeah, they knew what they were doing) is just how much social media will be flooded with it and make it even more difficult to reach an audience.

My point with what I was saying in the video, and I think it didnt come across too clearly, that ai is here and we can't stop it. It's a trainwreck. So instead of talking about the ethics of it, or as people say "open the discussion", I'm like nah fuck all this we have to learn to live around it and with it now. Because the box has been opened, and it's not gonna be closed again.
Amd the whole weekend, people wanted to just talk talk talk about the same thing we all already know and agree on. So I was kiiiinda just irritated during the second half of the episode because people would keep bringing up the issues, and never once brought up what theyre going to do about it for themselves.

@@ccayco yeah, its like listening to the news. talk talk talk but not much solutions. At this point for any ai (writing, drawing, music production, storytelling, ect) it just don't catch up and as for illustration, it cant do any of the complexity of your multi character/ dynamic perspective or any funky styles. I'd feel fustrated too if all anyone wants to talk about is something out of our hands just cause its the new hot topic.

YUP! I legit don't even go onto social anymore unless I'm looking up sports or sharing my own stuff because my feed is filled with ethical discussions of ai, people shouting at each other haha.

honestly, would love more cons to just keep to 2 days, or friday just for more panel viewing and maybe artist ally (small tables). I think its just too taxing on both attendies and merchants with plenty of dead hours and drive up con tickets

    • @ccayco
      @ccayco  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I would also prefer cons just be two days. It costs everyone (attendees, sellers, even the con) sooo much more money to do three days.

As an artist who’s good at art I’m not worried about ai at all. People enjoy watching the process of intentional art while it’s being created by a human. I’ve been told it’s therapeutic and relaxing when people watch me draw. Ai can only defeat that if the whole human race becomes robots all of a sudden.

As a traditional artist, i am also not worried about ai art. that said, ive already lost some work, even as a traditional artist, due to the effects of ai haha. i can imagine how much my industry friends are taking hits.

For me ai art here’s my statement as I said in video- if you inject your art and your works that’s fine. But if you inject google images aka works you don’t own or have rights to - that’s theft. You didn’t do anything special. You didn’t add anymore than what’s already present except what a common con man does. You slapped a label on bottled snake oil and claim it’s holy water.
I get ai artwork has a place and won’t go away. But for now it’s just another means to cheat artists at events even more. We can’t compete with them like Amazon did to mom and pop shops. :( $2 prints and $5 tees. Yeah. We can’t compete.

Like I said in the video, the process of it all is totaly utter bullshit. And that I'll never consider someone who relies on ai instead of taking the time to learn as an equal. I just can't. I get the use of it to expedite projects for certain things, it's the way of the world.
In regards to compare, I think once it becomes common knowledge to the non-artist/customers (not companies, moreso normal people and shoppers), they'll still throw down money for our stuff.

@@ccayco Thanks. Yeah I have a strange phobia of seeing myself in mirrors/video and such. I just don't like how I look. So thanks.

*There is nothing wrong with AI. It is a great tool for artists already* The key issue is that the art used to train the AI was stolen without permission. It gets even worse as Stable Diffusion used private medical records for face training. Stable Diffusion is fully planning on going public with valuation in the billions. They are scrubbing their AI training databases with the latest version. They will leave the legal issues and lawsuits to the end user which is weasel tactics. There is already at least one class action lawsuit against Stable Diffusion. The AI developers won't do this with commercial music as it is heavily copyrighted. Yes, there are AI music generators, but not using commercial music. They wouldn't dare. They would be sued out of existence as the recording industry has some of the best intellectual property lawyers. Unfortunately, art doesn't have that. One fallacy is when someone using AI says that style isn't protected. On a legal basis yes, but the AI used the art of a particular artist without permission to train the AI to make ersatz imitations in their "style".

I'm so past talking about either the ethics or the utilization of ai. I'm in the mindset that it in its current form, or in some different form, will always be with us now. So that's why I was so irritated in the video. Everyone was comlaining and just trying to talk about the ethics of it all.
I'm focused on living in the world where ai is a thing, because that's what we live in now. That's more what I was getting at in this video.
