It would be more suitable as a hospitality business than a private home, given the location. However there is very little reason for anyone to stop in the village of Tullaghan. Also, given the very large renovation costs, you can see why it hasn't been bought even with that giveaway price. Still, a beautiful house for the right person...
What type of housing and how close to a main road? Traffic noise is always a killer. There was an historic home like that near me. Same thing on the market for years. In America you can be limited to renovations in a home which is on the historic registry. I wouldn't buy that. I own it and pay for everything and someone else tells me I can't add bathrooms, etc. This was a gorgeous home, but on what was now a main road and only had 2 bathrooms I think, despite its size
@@Angel-nu7fm it's not a main road like one in the US. You'd probably think of it as a fairly quiet road relatively speaking but it's the main Donegal-Sligo Road. That said, the house is at the back end of its grounds so at nearly the furthest point back from the road that it can be. Daytime traffic noise would be noticeable but not terrible, I guess. It's in a tiny seaside village and there's just average modern houses around it. Nothing rough or anything, just a bit bland. It might have some building protections as a historic building but I don't think they'd be too bad, if any, because there's a lot of these houses in Ireland

This place would need substantial investment. These Georgian houses in ireland are always cold, damp. Need damp proof, ventilation, new glazing etc. Never mind any structural works. It might cost €200K, but you'd end up shelling out €2m, easily!

Yes, every picture shows damp from above, and I strongly suspect there isn't much of a damp-proof course at ground level, so there'll be damp coming up too!! Given the cost of removing the damp sources, as well as a new kitchen and bathrooms with the additional cost of rennovating/installing fresh and foul drainage, the house's price is possibly on the high side of acceptable.

There may be a lot of asbestos and lead paint in that house as that was checking era where it was in everything. You would have to gut snd redo all the plaster, paint floor and ceilings.

House prices in Ireland are on average more than the US. This would buy a 3 bed semi detached house a few km up the road from it. It reflects the fact that there’s probably circa €500,000 to be spent on roof and renovation at least.
The local builders would charge you five times the amount of £220.000. Euros just to use a couple of gallons of Damp Profing to hide the evidence of water in the walls. You would also smell the damp as soon as you enter the house.
What is the catch. Your writing says it comes with a catch. Does it have to be moved? AND, does it have to go before those boards where people decide what YOU have to do to this house. The Renovation show says those historical boards has to inspect your work and wait weeks and weeks before giving you a go ahead to finish, I wouldn’t like that. It turns a year of work into 2 or 3.
If it's too far gone there's the property and you could build something in the style of the old house but with modern upgrades. Save as much of it as possible to put in the new version.

Probably not, as asbestos wasn't used in buildings in Ireland until the late 1800's, long after this house was built.
