What do you appreciate most about Mavi’s writing style? What things have you learned from him?

You've pretty much explained what I love about Mavi's style in the video, I will use his song Chiasma as an example. The way he half sings on that did not go unnoticed by me, it's what gives the song its emotional weight in a way. He doesn't beat around the bush about his emotions, some of the lines he has on there are extremely straightforward but are so deep at the same time. "Trynna be the bridge between my father and my sister" doesn't seem to tie into the previous line, but gets followed up by a line about his mother, and after that a line about his brothers, and it finishes with the acknowledgement that their ties are not the easiest but they're still full of love. I feel like Mavi's most powerful aspect is how he portrays a bittersweet reality, a lot of his songs feel like a sad smile.

@@DynastyLuminous46That’s a really great way of putting it, maybe I can expand on that in a part two or something because I realllly like that point about how he portrays the bittersweet. He does it in a way that isn’t cringey or heavy-handed which is rlly hard to do. Ty for pointing this out!!

@@unknownreviews7259 He does it so earnestly. I would love a video on Chiasma and I'm glad to have contributed my 2 cents. Your vids are great, really insightful.

great video. never quite understood why mavi’s songs were such earworms despite being so lyrically nuanced. i think your explanation of him harmonizing with the melodies cleared that up for me. thank you

Dig the pace of this one and the titles. Always appreciate your focus around core theme or core storytelling . You kind of put me on to Billy Woods as an artist, and now looking forward to checking Mavi out too - appreciated, thanks for your work always.

Thank you!! This is awesome to hear because I put a lot more time into planning out the pace than I have for other videos. so glad you’ve been vibing with woods and Armand hammer, some of the best stuff out there. Honestly I still have lots to listen to when it comes to Mavi so I’m excited to dig deeper into his discog too :)

My favorite part about MAVI is his flow, he's able to take these super poetic and dense "Earl Sweatshirt" style rhyme schemes but he has the ability to flow so smoothly regardless of the pace he raps at. I think Miracle Baby (Prob. Uncle Al) is a perfect example

miracle baby is THE quintessential mavi verse for me. genuinely incredible what he accomplished on that one. that flow matched with the intensity is insane bro
