  • Went for a ride with my friend Chris who has never ridden an eMTB - so we took a Trek Rail 7 for a ride. The video shows the reaction and real time thoughts on riding an eMTB. The verdict is that riding an electric mountain bike is a lot of fun. Thanks to Cycle Therapy for helping us out with the Bike. More video coming in the next one.

Been riding the Rail 7 since April 2020 and have loved every second of it! I ride all over the front range of the Rocky Mountains around Denver, CO. Terrain is very rocky and chunky and this bike just eats it up. I usually keep it on Eco, though occasionally will bounce up a little. I love using it on the uphills but it also kills the downhills compared to my old analog Specialized. I ride much more and much longer and I have more fun than I ever have before, so don’t know how you argue with that! I recommend the Rail 7 highly!

Just bought the Rail 7. Holy fun bike ride (I admit the cockpit is not as comfy as my old remedy). Still getting used to the 29ers. Never hesitate to get a ride in 🤘

Just bought a 2022 Rail out here in NZ + hit some known tracks/ completely blown away by how fast this thing was/ almost scary. Love it.

I have a Trek Rail 5 (love it) and I get the same workout as on a regular bike, but I can cover 4-5 times the distance. I especially like that I can really wear myself out riding and I don't have to dread the ride back to the parking lot. Good video!

I'm not exactly old but switched to a Trek Rail 5 last year. Reason is I can ride the same trail my riding partners do but I ride it 3x as much as they can.

Is the Trek Rail the bike you would recommend? Any experience with Focus bikes or other brands? Thanks.

Unfortunately I havent had much experience with other bikes. I have rode a giant and a devinci, but they were lower end models to this and didnt compare. The trek is awesome and feels so well balanced. The focus nikes look cool - but havent seen any over this way yet. More of a European thing.

bin riding a Focus Jam2 since 2018, but this Trek (particularly its handling) just threw me into another level. Amazed, when’s t next session!

test rider probably felt it being a little jerky due to his cadence appearing low….these bikes have a range where the power comes in. I think 80 - 110 is about the optimum?

    • @NextLevelRiding

yeah you might be right on that one.

DArren Swailes "test rider probably felt it being a little jerky due to his cadence appearing low" --- I've been thinking about this and I think it's rather that they appear to be riding platform pedals that only allow downward pedal pressure. The motor likely responds to input and if the only input is in downward pedal strokes, it seems natural that the the motor would surge with each pedal stroke. I would bet with clip in pedals and a more 360 degree pedal stroke that the surging would likely disappear. Higher cadence would help as well but only because each downward pedal stroke is less of a power push at high cadence as during low cadence stokes.

@@fredman1085 Many people, myself included use flats without this issue, but the Bosch system is designed to deliver power in a set rpm range and if you drop out of that the motor power is reduced to almost nothing. Im sure this is designed to prevent you being in too high a gear at low rpm putting undue and significant load on the motor/battery. I am very confident his issue was too low rpm on peddling, that can be seen from the video

@@dms2610 ok, I’ll take your word for it. I’m getting mine this Thursday and was just thinking about the mechanics. Thanks for correcting me, and in a polite manor.

@@fredman1085 You’ll love it, they are a complete revelation, and don’t be afraid to ride flats you really don’t need SPD’s as we used to ride them for the extra power and efficiency. You’ll find you have all the power you need now and ride stuff you thought impossible, and will probably try stuff that is impossible, so will appreciate the ease of putting a foot down from flats 😀

Stephen barradell "It's kind of like a power band on a dirt bike? What kind of dirt bike you riding?" --- What do you ride Stephen? I'm in California, so I have a 2016 KTM 300xc for red sticker (Oct-May) season and I just bought a 2021 Beta 390 RR-S (dual sport) last year for green sticker season (Jun-Sept). If I could just have one bike, I think it would be the Beta, I love that bike. The KTM is awesome too though. I'm retired now and I've been waiting for my Rail-7 since December 2020. I get to pick it up this coming Thursday!!! I'm pretty excited.
