Whether he is christian or not christian, I'd say it depends. Not really because USAmerican christianity (spelt with ''c'') is totally different to genuine Christianity. They don't follow the same teachings, have a nasty, vile, cruel, inhuman, uncaring deity and practice not a single teaching from Jesus. Unlike genuine Christians whose name is not only taken in vain but is also dragged through the mud by these imitators desperately trying to sound genuine. 50 year is considered historical, 75 years is the minimum age for something to be classed as archaeological relic, 100 years is the minimum age for excavating a grave.
I found out a couple years ago that there is, in fact, a branch of archaeology that searches for pretty recent things. Like bottle caps in a place where a famous pub was, to determine where exactly it was. Kind of blew my mind to be honest.
This inspired me to start wearing my mjölnir pendant again! I haven't worn it for the longest time since the symbol was coopted by nazis (in the nordic countries at least). @@melissaann513 What if they also have neck tattoos, a prison teardrop in the corner of their eye, a shaved head, and the only ID they have (necessary to get a guest pass to use the library computers) is their parole card? 20+ years of experience makes me think I am not making rash judgments. However, if the white male is early 20s, a hip haircut, designer jeans, and a general air of growing up privileged, I just figure he gets his ideas on history from TV rather than advanced college courses.

It’s very easy to call him a Nazi. But even the (actual historical) Nazis would find him distasteful. Seriously. Context. And you’ve got to be a piece of work if the Nazis don’t even want you in their club.
The OG Nazis did have a big thing for appropriating spiritual and historical ideas they didn't understand. Their entire concept of Aryanism is a huge case in point. In fact, some of the more unsavory aspects of New Age culture, not to mention eco-fascism, trace back in a straight line to historical Nazis. I think he fits in quite well, and so did the other fascists at the Capitol.
@@ernststravoblofeld I ain’t disagreeing. It’s just the original ones were better dressers in their Hugo Boss uniforms. Obsessively so. Not that being well-dressed is any excuse. Yeah the more you study the actual history the more horrified you are by what is related to whom, intellectually speaking. The Nazis for example learned a lot from late 19th and early 20th century American medical science and its fascination with eugenics. Sheesh!
Aside from my previous outburst, I want to say Thank You Jimmy for putting the cultural history straight! Sadly we are still not taught the cultural history of our own indigenous people here. The history and culture of the North American tribes has been systematically hidden or erased by our government ever since it was created. Very embarassing to admit to.
I love this video! I feel like I learned so much. Thanks, Jimmy! The only thing that could make this better is if some sources by pll from the actual culture were cited at the end 💛
Thank you for talking about the origins of his headpiece. I knew of the feather bonnets, but was less aware of the origins of this person. The one news story I remember describing it as more than “furry headpiece” referred to it as bearskin, which would have been another layer of old Norse co-op as implying a beserker. But it being an appropriated Native American bonnet is definitely a lot worse. :( and who knows? He could have meant it as an all-of-the-above thing. It’s not like a-holes care about the number of cultures they steal from.
It was raccoon skins, including tails. So he was also mocking early white settlers who wore hats made of raccoon skins with tails on the back. Davey Crockett, Daniel Boone and others. Maybe it's just myth but in movies and stories they're depicted wearing raccoon skin hats.

Thanks for this Jimmy. It gave me a lot to think about. As a kid (in the 1960s) wearing fake headgear went along with playing 'cowboys and indians' and it was alway clear who the 'goodies' were. Quite horrific to look back at that and the popular films / tv shows that fostered those 'games'. So I can only apologise that I didn't know any better at the time. Yeah. Thank you for the video and stating as such. I'm always horrified/disgusted at the way Nazi thugs steal the regalia and aesthetics of various cultures while simultaneously stating just how much they hate those people and their entire way of life. I'm just so tired of white supremacists, both in general and also in the way that people keep saying that these thugs are Viking, when they're so clearly _not_ and just...it's frustrating. It's frustrating as someone who genuinely worships Odin and Loki and the Norse gods, and so am constantly being told to be careful about how to display my symbols because of White Supremacists, instead of White Supremacists being told to fuck off and get away from such symbols and all. I don't know. Thank you for the video, it's amazing as always, and I'll have to look into more of those stories you mentioned. Hopefully we've faced a turning point where more people realize they have to shut down white supremacy rather than ignoring it, but who knows.

He's one of those people who glomp onto anything he deems " spiritual" and even throws the idea of a 3rd eye in there. And now he can't eat in jail because the food isn't organic.
Well done, and thank you. This whole debacle infuriates me.
Been a fan for a good while, and I just keep getting more and more respect for you
Love your channel, cheering you on!
Native here (S'Klallam) I wish I could like your video more than once!
Being from the USA, I really appreciate how you addressed this topic. You break down all of the ways this ego-maniac and so many others have coopted various cultural artifacts to support a self-serving ideology. They would like to think that the whole world revolved around them.
I didn't realize that majestic hat had so much significance! All I knew was that he didn't deserve to be wearing it. What a shame so many people will probably associate it with an ignorant, unpatriotic tool; and that's a very sad thought, so I'm sharing this with my friends. Thank you for a very interesting lesson!
Also, "impotent, orange, fascist overlord" might be some of the best words I've heard used to describe that... thing.
This is my favorite video covering this topic. You have my utmost respect.
Mine too! I'm way late but I love this channel.
I assumed his headgear was the usual inaccurate "horned viking helmet" so this was really interesting to learn something about indigenous american peoples as well as the obvious point that he is not dressed as a viking
"This is gonna take a beer" has become a regular statement of mine.
Before I even watch the video, yeah he isn't dressed like a viking... He's dressed like a loser who can't make it through life outside of his parents basement. And I'm not just saying that for lols. The dude is a failed attempted actor who actually lives in his parents basement.
Calling him a loser that is an insult to the many many innocuous basement-dwelling losers who aren't facist thugs, honestly
The fact that this guy could claim to be Christian is _surreal_ given his callous behavior. The fact that people are thinking about looking for ways to give this guy any more exposure is also sad. I agree completely that this man needs to sit down and shut up. Nice outtro though.
Right?! Blew my tiny mind when I found out!
Did he physically harm anybody in or near the capitol?
he is probably on all sorts of meds for his insecurity...pity its not paraquat
i would feed him tainted rye bread and monkshood and hemlock with amanita phalloid mushroom garnish soup...no getting up from that...but it would be messy and painful...and apt

Whether he is christian or not christian, I'd say it depends. Because some christian denominations were pretty much designed, built and defined by people who viewed their religious system as means to gaining political influence and access to financial wealth and designed ther religious legislation to do EVERYTHING BUT loving their brethren onto anyone who stood in the way of their plans *CoughRomanCatholicismCough*.
Unfortunately there are a growing number in the US who follow christianity while loudly proclaiming to be Christian. Gross misrepresentation and, to pinch another much abused term, cultural (religious????) appropriation.
Thank you. I live in Alberta, Canada and I was furious to see that regalia on the sob.
As someone who has always been fascinated by Native American society and history, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I learned as much as I did from this video. Thanks again Welsh Viking!
"Way back in the 60s..." says he. Having been born in the 60s, does that make me archaeology now? :D Thanks for this; I do love your history/culture/everything videos as I always learn from them ;)
Haha! Cartoons age far, far quicker than people! ;)
50 year is considered historical, 75 years is the minimum age for something to be classed as archaeological relic, 100 years is the minimum age for excavating a grave.
@@SirAroace Hmm... I quite like the idea that I am historical :D
I found out a couple years ago that there is, in fact, a branch of archaeology that searches for pretty recent things. Like bottle caps in a place where a famous pub was, to determine where exactly it was.
Kind of blew my mind to be honest.
Petition to rechristen "That Guy" to "Buffalo Bellend" starts here.
This inspired me to start wearing my mjölnir pendant again! I haven't worn it for the longest time since the symbol was coopted by nazis (in the nordic countries at least). My pendant is made by the Finnish jewellery company Kalevala koru, who among other things make viking age reproductions. Their mjölnir pendant is a reproduction of a pendant found in southern Finland.
I hope you did! Our ancestry should not belong to people who want to discriminate others based on their ancestry. We all deserve a connection to the past AND a future that we shape together.
Dropping the knowledge as ever. Thanks for the take down with no names for any of them.
What a bunch of Paridaes
This is a BEAUTIFUL rant! Loving how you co-opted it into things of value. 😉😊
The Finnish media dubbed that degenerate as "a horn-headed shaman", and just treated it as some internet meme. So many things wrong with that, that I just can't even. Thank you for making this video. It's appalling how these special and sacred symbols are appropriated for such hateful purposes.
Thank you. I first saw coverage of this jerk as a "Viking ", so my brain saw the fur and horns as tired tropes and not the much worse appropriation they were. Now that I know I could spit. Instead, to the internet to see if Standing Rock or another reservation is in need of Covid supplies. A lot of places need things like masks you can order online and have sent there.

I'm just watching this video in June but am enrolled at Standing Rock. I don't live there (married to someone from another tribal community) but thank you so much for thinking of Native communities.
@@gnostic268 @Historians Revolt, I'm reading this much later but with the rise in the Delta variant this has gotten me thinking that they may be needing supplies again/still. Going to look into it after this video 🖤
TH-cam just recommended me your videos and I clicked for the historical goodness, but I'm staying because you're a cool guy.
Aww I’m so glad you’re staying :3 Thank you ShiRa!
This is fantastic. Thank you for addressing the cultural appropriation/mockery, too.
Thank you for doing this, and I, too, wish it wasn’t necessary. I really appreciate that you went in depth on the Buffalo cap. It sickens me that this happened and these people felt they *could* do this. None of them deserve to be known as anything but racists and traitors
Amazing, more people should speak out like you do!
You’re quickly becoming my favorite youtuber. Love this so much.
Oh stoppit! You’ll make me blush!
And blush you should, your content is great! 😌
@@kevinroche3334 Kevin! Thank you so much! This is so kind!
Count me in as another American saying "Thank You Jimmy!" I have no doubt that if we ever really look at each individual "storming" Capitol hill that day, we'll find even more atrocities toward other cultures, religions and nationalities. I was sick to my stomach much of that day and still can't think on it without cursing.
Thank you for telling the history. Thank you for being an advocate for good and knowledge. Thank you saying what so many of us are feeling.
I am watching this so late, but this still makes me so happy. Thank you.
I love your channel so much, thanks for doing this
Thank you for addressing this. And for not putting his photo on your video.
Thank you!!
I was thinking of you, I’m American, and infuriated by the implication that his crazy person is representing a Viking- ugh.
I love how you explain the truth, That’s why I’m here. It’s a beautiful thing.❤️
I teach archaeology and biological anthropology courses at a community college in Texas. Your discussion of white nationalism and racism is a theme that is addressed in both courses, from different angles (but the racists don't come out well in either case). I recognized exactly what that clown was doing the moment I saw him, and when he said he was "honoring the Navajo," I was absolutely sick. Anyway, this archaeology prof (lowercase p) appreciates your channel and what you do, and especially this video. Cheers!
As a former government information librarian, who has read many FBI reports, when I see a modern white male with Norse style tattoos, I immediately think "white surpremist/Aryan Nation/neo-Nazi" not viking.
Right? So upsetting that these things are now on lists of hate symbols globally.
That is sooo depressing and horrible. But I think the same. And I hate that that's the world we gotta live in.
It's cool to note that some groups who keep lists of hate symbols, have included these with an explanation that context matters.
That’s so sad....
My ex husbands side of the family has a lot, A LOT of Cheyenne. I’m always trying to find places to teach her about a very unspoken history. This channel warms my hippie tree hugging heart on so many levels.
👏👏👏👏👏
Mango Mussolini's followers are many things. Respectful isn't really one of them. Thank you for making this wonderfully educational as well as sanity reinforcing.
Another gem, as always. I had to search for your video specifically to make this comment, as we just watched it on my partner's device. In any case, keep 'em coming.
(It might actually be a marker for bad behavior). I just think the historical Nazis would be (like tRump ha!) appalled by the aesthetics. SMDH... Yeah the more you study the actual history the more horrified you are by what is related to whom, intellectually speaking. The Nazis for example learned a lot from late 19th and early 20th century American medical science and its fascination with eugenics. Sheesh!
@@ernststravoblofeld what fascist, prove anybody there was a fascist I'll wait! Besides the Democrats on the left that is!
Brilliant video! Thanks so much for this!
Well said. Thank you for making this.
A pleasure, and an honour to have a comment from such an impeccable re-enactor as yourself.
I love where you took this!
I have recently found your videos and casually poking through your various uploads. But this video has solidified me as a fan. Thank you! I agree with you sentiments 100%!
Oh, That's so sweet, thank you!
Yes! I was hoping for this rant because I totally thought of you when they kept saying he was dressed as a viking when really he looks like he is dressed for burning man.
Please, folks at Burning Man wear less clothes, and more sunscreen.
@@susansnook9801 I don't know. I definitely saw some lobsters. 😂
Thank you for tackling this unpleasant issue. As ever, very well done.
I pointed several people to your other video when they asked why a white supremacist had viking tattoos.
I’m glad you have a beer. Thanks for the video.
By the way, your wonderful ending slides are obscured by a thumbnail for another video. I don't know if you can change the settings to remove that.
Thank you, from an American member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
Thank you right back. I'm very glad this is ok and hope it's appropriate.
Kinda inappropriate comment but I love the insults and descriptions of the white nationalist(s).
Love the Dead Kennedy's reference!🖤 And thank you so much for struggling through this for educational purposes-- I know it had to be infuriating. Also, Sweary Jimmy ranting makes my little heart happy😂
Thank you! I'm a bit late finding this, but deeply appreciate the context you've provided. Instinctively, I came to the same/similar conclusions, but having this perspective validates my gut. We need to call out the inappropriate actions, the why of it and why a caring considerate person would avoid those actions. I've just found your channel and am very glad I did. Than you!
This is the third video of yours that I've watched. I don't think I've ever hit "subscribe" so quickly as when you said "hairy, white flesh of a nazi" Thanks for calling this shit out for what it is and also for handling this subject with as much humour, bluntness and sensitivity as you did.
I have been actively trying to find good viking content but the sheer number of times I've run into co-opting assholes has been extreme and I don't go searching anymore.
I was recommended this channel by TH-cam and am glad to see their algorithm improve.
It's sad that I as a consumer cannot trust any channel that isn't speaking out like you just did. But every time it happens, I feel restored.
Love your videos! Very informative. Just a quick note about the word “Sioux”. While some members of the Seven Council Fires still use it, it’s actually a derogatory exonym that came from the Ojibwe word for “enemy”, which French explorers adopted. Instead, one can use Lakota, Eastern Dakota, and Western Dakota, respectfully. Lakota and Dakota are endonyms that essentially mean “ally”. Have a great day☀️
Good to know, thanks!
A little chuckle at the beginning and then the second half. Because you are that good. :/
Glad you made a video addressing this.
This is such an important topic and you handle it beautifully. The only reason it isn't considered stolen valor is because many of us are ignorant to the meaning of the buffalo cap. It's absolutely stolen valor. I love your videos but I have a hard time understanding them because I have hearing issues. Could you please caption your videos?
We love you Jimmy. Thank you for being awesome.
I knew I loved this channel for a reason, fantastic reenactment tips aside.

It amazes, but delights, me that you felt paid enough attention to see this and were incensed enough to make this video. You've done a fantastic job, I appreciate this. I just found this video. I really enjoyed it, and am so glad you gave everyone a good talking to about abusing the native tribal regalia. When it happened, I was one of the few in my several groups who commented on the horror he was to all native Americans. Thanks for this one!
Totally agree with you .there should be a lot more respect for certain things
Thank you very much for this and your video on racists claiming Viking origins in their ideals. I grew up among neo-Nazi and it's nice to hear someone discuss how utter nonsense their claims truly are. I appreciated your speaking out about the abuse of Native American culture. I very much appreciated your discussion of stolen valor. I'm pretty sure it is considered a crime to claim or wear a Purple Star and other military metals.
Thank you. It was needed. 💛♥️💜
Loving you so much for this !!
Loved the post...spot on...thank you!
US citizen here. Stolen valor is a crime but only when you have intent to secure goods or monetary gain from it.
THANK YOU!!! And it is sad that we only hear these truths from someone across the pond; that too few Americans have any clue how disgusting just the appearance of this person is, never mind his actions.
Thank you! I am still in grief. You help.
