got this working for my spreadsheet and looks great. only thing im wondering is that whether i can search within the defined table without it creating another table of sorts. is that possible for this kind of search function? thanks for the video
I would like to know how to do this but without the LEFT function. I would like to be able to type a string of characters and return results that match anywhere at all in the cell, not just left.
Hi Matthew, you could use SEARCH combine to ISNUMBER instead of LEFT. hence: isnumber(search("What you looking for","where to search") not very clean but that should do the work.
removing the left function would make this useful for me...

What if I Want to be able to search anywhere in a cell? we use an excel sheet for license plates of employees aloud to park in our lot. if I am searching by last three cause that's all someone saw I cant do that with left

Yes, you just need to make sure the table name and column name is correct

In the search box for example. After it shows what you are looking for, can it retain hyperlinks if I put any?
How do you name table? If I add new row to table I have to create table again? Will it work with search based on two collumns?

I use macbook, and my excel doesn't support the ActiveX controls, or form controls, properties. nothing. I'm trying with vba codes, Actually it works somehow, but is not edit able, as you turned on designe mode. I can not di this either. how can I really ddo this.. I am searching for a week. thank you

Is there a way to have the results include a hyperlink that is tied to cell in the array table?
Say I have a large table of topics and each is hyperlinked to a guide online (whether by =HYPERLINK or right click insert hyperlink). I use the =Filter formula so it returns only topics that match what I type in the search box, however currently it's not including the hyperlink in the result, only the text.
Is there a way to do this?

It's not going to work.
This is pretty useful. However I have one problem, if you have dates in one of your table columns; when they are displayed under the search box they are shown as their 5 digit code and not as an actual date. Is there a way to get it so that the dates are displayed correctly?

Sir you manually created filter function or its part of raw excel formulas ? I never tried it will look forward to work with it.
The Filter function is a fairly recent addition to Excel. Available in Excel 365.

SPILL error means the formula cannot display its results in adjacent cells. Try clearing cells adjacent to your formula.
