Enjoyed this, thank you! I am a visual artist not a singer, but I gain a lot of insights and inspiration from music and musicians. I learn a lot from how musicians work. It's a two-sided activity. Dancers and musicians are so aware of that. You always say things that help me with my own or as an artist.

You mention telling a story...first off, she's amazing live, go see the Vegas show if that comes back in the After Times...but I cried the hardest at her show during two points: When she was talking about her aunt that inspired "Joanne," and when she was crying herself while singing. IIRC that was during "edge of glory."
Frederic Kahler (Dana is my husband.) Have you shared analysis on Karen Carpenter? The way her voice very quickly grabs you, her prescient Weltschmertz when so young, and yes, sometimes having to endure recording her brother's song picks ("I Be;ieve You"). My favorite - so haunting in her phrasings is "Goodbye to Love." thank you, sir!
The 'radio hits' are a fraction of her work - and the same goes for Pink. I had no time for Ms Moore until I heard her do 'Just Like A Pill' at a radio station with nothing beyond a sparse acoustic guitar playing in the background - magnificent and completely unexpected. She doesn't have Gaga's range but there is that same 'gravel under the honey' tone to Pink's voice, and AFAIK that's rock'n'roll, regardless of how many pop huts an artist has. Gaga's voice has a nasality that some would consider unattractive but I love her voice. Thanks for the video.
Ken, I have to admit I didn't have a great impression Lady Gaga years ago and just sort of put her in a category with Britney Spears and all those pop Divas and what is so weird is as you were talking about her and showing how great she has progressed which I completely agree with it's astounding actually...I was thinking in the back of my head about the Howard Stern interview with her where out of the blue she threw down black dog by Zeppelin on the spot and nailed it doing a better job than most Zeppelin tribute guys do and at that moment I knew she had become really good and I thought to myself it would be so cool if you had that clip in this video and discussed it but I thought you probably never saw it and then all of a sudden Bam you showed it; I was laughing my ass off and should have known better...you are THE vocal guru of the internet! Great post. Peace, Bob
I love how the fighter jets fly over at the end of the anthem. I saw a NASCAR doco a few years back and they showed a cockpit camera with radio coms as they co-ordinated the customary formation flyover for the anthem. It was a great insight into the logistics involved behind the scenes as they appeared to sync with a countdown.
Somebody in a Terry Pratchett novel said that the difference between "musicals" and "opera" is that, in a musical, the songs are there to advance the plot, while in an opera, the plot is there to move things along to the next song.
Little known fact vis-a-vis her acting chops and training: Germanotta played the lead roles of Adelaide in the plays Guys and Dolls and Philia in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum at Regis High School. She also studied method acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for ten years.
Being a tad sharp or flat here and there doesn't matter if one put's heart and soul into the performance. It's just human. And even pitch perfect singing can be kinda meh live if there's no emotion in it. Well, that's how it is to me.

Great post. Peace, Bob
I ALSO THINK SHE HAS CHANGED SHE IS MORE INTO CRAFT NOW RATHER THAN CRAZE DRESSES. SHE IS BEYOND AMAZING!! SHE INSPIRED ME TO START TO LEARN SINGING
Thanks for reacting to Lady Gaga.
She's my favorite female singer.
👍

Gaga is a musical genius.
Somebody in a Terry Pratchett novel said that the difference between "musicals" and "opera" is that, in a musical, the songs are there to advance the plot, while in an opera, the plot is there to move things along to the next song.
Well said!
Little known fact vis-a-vis her acting chops and training:
Germanotta played the lead roles of Adelaide in the plays Guys and Dolls and Philia in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum at Regis High School. She also studied method acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for ten years.
Regarding the timing of the fighter jets, there are always officers on the ground coordinating with the pilots over radio
Being a tad sharp or flat here and there doesn't matter if one put's heart and soul into the performance. It's just human. And even pitch perfect singing can be kinda meh live if there's no emotion in it. Well, that's how it is to me.
Absolutely, Cage80!
Lady Gaga summed up:
“Now that I have your attention.....”
