- Things have certainly been going ahead here at the farm! This episode I share with you the pandemonium of building a pool, renovating a rustic kitchen, installing heating in an ancient Tuscan farmhouse and madly preparing the property for the arrival of my best friend, Brian. Hope you enjoy it.

Oh Kylie, I felt incredibly emotional 💕during this video. I cannot even dare to imagine how difficult must be not only, living in the house during the renovation, the extreme heat, being pregnant, but also carry on filming everything for us, so wonderfully, as only you can do ! 😊 Everyone here in the UK is complaining for the heatwave, which is no were near to your temperatures! My heart was breaking for her. Hot & pregnant is enough to want to just “veg out” but add in ALL the work of cooking and cleaning with the construction- oh my goodness. Then my heart burst with excitement when I heard best friend Brian was on his way !! Oh what joy!

This is my first comment actually ever on TH-cam! I have been intently watching your adventures on renovating, whilst we were renovating our own place in Umbria getting ready for our July wedding with 60+ guests. Very stressful and enjoyable at the same time. We don’t speak Italian and renovated our property through photos as most of our renovation was during COVID and lockdown periods which brought its own challenges. We are now married, renovation complete and swimming pool in - our guests were blown away by the Umbrian beauty and high quality workmanship through out. One thing we learn’t, as you well know, Italians will finish on Italian time and no event or strong words will change that. But that’s why we bought here in Italy, the relaxed people and lifestyle…. End result so overwhelming happy with our new home and life. You will both be great parents btw

The best thing to come home to on a Friday evening is a video from you, Kylie. The heat is unbelievable and I am not looking forward to getting some of the same in the next few days over here in the UK. I am so delighted that you are finally going to be reunited with Brian. Really impressed with all the work going on. You and Guido deserve a medal for all the hassle. I bet you are going to really appreciate the heating and the air conditioning. With the zucchini: we grew loads of it growing up. Grind it, bag it in the correct recipe amount & freeze for zucchini bread! It freezes wonderfully, then just thaw & mix with the rest of ingredients! So yummy! We made it plain, chocolate & some with walnuts!

Talk about MULTi TASKING! I know that there was a time in my life when I was able to do it but not anymore ... I see Guido has another blue shirt / I like this one the best. I have a very loving neighbor who just completed a three week project ON MY PROPERTY cutting down weeds AND what I ended up with is a gorgeous piece of landscape that has mulch and is so beautiful! She knew I couldn't do it what with my bad knees and scoliosis so she offered ... I am busy putting together a box of antiques and gift cards for her and her husband. She said she likes to make people *happy* and she SURE DID MAKE ME HAPPY ... as you did for me exactly one year ago with the aprons. BEST WISHES with Brian's visit and renovating while trying to stay cool and plant lavender which I am hoping to get for some flower pots on my front porch! Until next week! Love Sharon Rose

Your comment that despite all the work and heat etc , you have never felt more in love with your husband, made my heart melt. In such conditions, many couples get irritable with each other, and become disconnected, and that’s very sad. It’s amazing that you’ve managed to flip this . I always wondered why couples can’t do what you have done, face the difficulty together and use it as an opportunity to become more connected. I know you have only been married a year, but you have absolutely the the right attitude and I have no doubt you will have a long and happy life together. I absolutely wish this for you.
Ps make sure you don’t give Guido those delicious puddings too often, so he stays in good health!

I have found that keeping my hair and/or t-shirt damp (either with a spray bottle or just rinsing and wringing/towel drying a few times per day) helps keep my body temperature down in extremely hot weather. The feeling of damp against the skin isn’t particularly pleasant but at least my body and mind can function and I manage to avoid heat stroke. I feel for you Kylie - pregnant in that merciless summer sun. Hope you have a wonderful visit with Brian.
I use the same methods for cooling, especially along the back of neck; also frequently running cold water on the inside of my wrists… I heard long ago (pre- Google!) cooling these pulse points does the trick. This worked with my boys when they were younger also. And of course hydration is critical- pregnant or not. 👍 Fan From Florida 🌴
I wet my towel and use it as a blanket. Then I put a damp face cloth behind my neck. I also have a fan that you put water and ice in, but not sure if that would work in 40 degree temps, it works okay for 35 degrees and below.

Wow! That is some pool!!! Next summer you won’t be sweltering! You’ll be in that marvelous pool!!!
Before I had AC, a couple of tricks to sleep. Take a wet face cloth or towel if needed and wet them, ring them out. Then put them in the freezer. Take one to bed, it is all hard and frozen, begin to wipe your body down!! The other is cheap spray bottles with water that are put in the fridge or freezer to get as cold as possible. Take to bed or use all day!!

Those large zuccs are excellent, grated, squeezed and mixed into the spicy deliciousness! No need to peel zuccs! God bless you both as you roast, work and finish your renovations! Your baby is also growing and almost ready to come into this world! Soon the heat will be just a memory! Continue to be blessed!
I noticed the weeds between the pavers at the cottage. A quick efficient way to remove them is a mix of 1 cup epsom salts dissolved in 1 cup vinegar plus 1/4 cup dish detergent.. Surfactant causes mix to adhere to the weeds. Decant into a spray bottle and spray on weeds early on a hot day when rain is not expected. Within a couple of days the weeds will be shrivelled. Rake up. Much easier than pulling or digging with a trowel. Best of luck to you.

Talk about timing, I’ve been needing a safe way to weed in my garden areas around my 30 pineapple plants. Bought a small house last year that already had lovely tropicals, also plumeria, lilies, hibiscus, impatience,aloe, gardenia! Prev owner had obviously used much care & love but I had no experience w/fruiting/ edible plants.This saves me fr googling, a task I forget by the time I come inside 🤣👍❤️Fan From Florida 🌴
Or simply acetic acid.
Or just pour boiling water, works great.

A trick for summer & keeping the home cool with out A/C. In the morning around 7-8 am close all the windows! YEP. if the nights & mornings are cooler (say 70-80's) if you shut your windows you keep the home cool & pleasant until around 3 pm. If you keep the windows open all day you keep the heat in the home. It works. it's not perfect but, much cooler then leaving the windows open. 🥶☃
ps very sweet of you to cook lunch & dinner for the workers. Is this normal in Italy?

Lavender is used to keep mosquitoes away.
lastly, in the old days before a/c people would freeze a big block of ice (you can use a large kitchen tupper ware to free ice) then set the ice container in front of a fan...this will cool you. Put the ice container on somthing so that it will be right in the middle of the fan. look up "How to make an amazing air cooler for summer on y t ch American Tech .

Oh dear, a heatwave! Consider mixing in a spray bottle> peppermint pure essential oil (a lot) with distilled water. Spray it over yourselves all day to cool down & try standing in front of your fan after spraying. (You can also mix in scented lavender witch-hazel) but plain peppermint oil is divine. 💥 All is looking brilliant Kylie & Guido, well done! x💗x

I renovated a house in the Australian summer with no air conditioning. I found soaking a sarong or some material about the length of your body. Ring out, lay over body like a sheet, put fan on and it’s bliss and I could get some much deserved sleep.

This heat in Tuscany makes my brain feel like mush and I am just staring at the work that needs doing, or napping. I am the industrious type, so being forced into heat blobdom just makes me feel like I am losing something but I can't remember what haha. Time maybe? I am prone to say, when asked what I hate the most, "sweating, bathing, and sweating some more." Sweat, rinse repeat. To all Italians and compatriots here, stay cool if humanly possible. And as in all things, remember that "this too shall pass."

Kylie is an Angel and the love that Kylie and Guido have for one another is going to make for a very special off spring. Sharing your house with trades people is a learning process and requires patience and supervision. Entrapping the dust to just a limited space is elementary so I hope trades men use this experience going forward for their sake of a building a great reputation for themselves, every little small courtesy matters.

If you were and are friends you can go thru anything. My husband and I have been married for 55 yrs. and we never stay mad at each other, frustrated at times , but we don't stay mad. We always forgive and don't go to bed mad.
