Or at 4:56, the guy rolling a few meters far ahead of the motorcycle, but at 4:59 he is suddenly crouching behind it. Pretty much every scene is a wtf moment. Masterpiece.

Actually something similar happened in Italy in 1944. SS troops were standing to attention in a town square waiting to be inspected, when at that very moment, two jeeps driven by the SAS drove down the street at full speed and opened up their machine guns on them. Killed the frigging lot!
@@SSSoldat Well you would have been dead. Anyway, they caught the SAS commandos in the end and executed them in some ltalian forest. There is a book about the operation (l forget it's name) where an undercover SAS team after the war tracked down the executioners. Well worth reading.

What baffles me is that the officers never bothered on the keys, and the fact that they didn’t huddle closer for better protection, being out in the open like that is a big no no.
The town is as calm as ever, and few people dare to resist the Reich, let alone there are so many elite SS soldiers here. Everyone thought everything was under control. If only I were one of the soldiers here, I would also think our mission will be completed soon as usual and we can continue to have fun with those pretty girls...

But this ambush scene seem trimmed down the reality from those stupid German soldiers with too many over acting stunts. In turn, "Where Eagle Dare" by Clint Eastwood & Richard Burton much more classic in WWII film.

Until about 1944, by and large the three professional services did not salute using the Roman (Nazi) salute including to Hitler. In fact I am not sure that the Kreigsmarine didn't continue the naval salute up to the end of the war.

There is so much wrong and just plain silly about this scene. Begins with Roger Moore in dress slacks and looking like he just stepped out of a fashion magazine. Just stupid.
I was thinking the same thing. The Reich was well known for brutal reprisals for any attacks by partisans on their occupying forces. Though it's a great feeling to see all those German soldiers slain, it's heartbreaking to think of how many innocent people will be rounded up & executed at some future point by the Germans. 😞
The exaggerated groaning audio (so obviously inserted in post) and, at times, amateurish explosions, are actually hilarious. Kinda reminds me of what might expect on the 80s series The A-Team...

I really enjoyed watching a Greek partisan on a rooftop (3:08-3:10) and (@4:25) Telly Savalas both firing a captured German MP-44 automatic weapon, the world's first assault rifle (and father of the AK-47). Funny thing. The MP-44 Sturmwehr assault rifle was starting to be issued to German forces in Nazi Germany proper and those German units (chiefly SS) serving in Belgium, Netherlands and even in Poland. It is doubtful the weapon ever saw service OUTSIDE Central Europe until AFTER 1945, when gun runners and arms dealers began peddling them outside the continent.

Great scene, thanks for the high quality upload, always loved the movie. prob the best scene in it ...sad near the end to see such an elite S.S. sniper gunned down like that, not to mention the local priest joining in on the festivities....yikes!!!
Danke! I'm glad you like it, my friend. The sniper is a good lad, but when he joined the combat was too late as we SS lads are all dying in the square. It's a pity he couldn't shot the leader of the partisans to avenge for our killed lads!
Elite SS sniper? What school taught the idiot to be in plain view of the enemy, he deserved to die for stupidity, the only thing he was good at was the swan dive off a tower if you wish to watch snipers in action, try watching Enemy At The Gates (Stalingrad)
