You're absolutely correct! If this song remained exactly how it is, but, it was labeled "The Beatles;" "The Rolling Stones;" or "The Who;" - it would have to #1! The Kinks, for whatever silly reason, didn't have the fame nor popularity they should have!?!? The same with Badfinger. Great rock bands who got little! :(
While I agree with everyone here, I need to moderate a bit, and remind you that The Kinks were in fact hugely popular in the 60's with 3 singles at #1 in the British charts and several hits in the USA as well. Ray Davies is without a shred of doubt a genius.
The kink were the best band ever known they are legends never got the credit they deserved they came from a poor family background and their music was real an raw and everyone could relate to them to me they are better than the Beatles but never got the credit they deserved because their manager let them down an fucked them over
