I can't say enough good things about a seat custom formed with 2-part foam. You want the 2lb/ft^3 grade. Just make a bag, mix the foam, pour it in, sit on it, and in minutes you have a custom formed seat. It is no joke rigid, but because it is formed to your body, your muscles and fat are the padding.
Although it’s good engineering practice to put the bolts pointing downwards, for roll cage and seat mountings the bolts should point upwards so the bolts/threads don’t get damaged by bottoming out on rough roads.
Hello, don't take this the wrong way but the seat mounts can't be done as you assembled it. The welded upper L pieces that hold the seat have to be more rigid for sure. Sure I just eyeballed it but I am doing strength simulations for motorsport and in the act of crash as you mentioned in the video, these mounts would hardly survive. At least close also the other side, but better box it. That way the mounts will be able to hold higher strength in bending as well as tensile strength. Safety first
I plan on boxing it in except for the back side. I just wanted to get the general shape down before I went any further. Thank for the concern though, its nice to know that others care about safety.
When you assemble the seats for real, don't forget to put washers both ends, grower washer, nyloc nuts, or double nuts, or nut w/ loctite. You can also cut the bolts shorter and file them, so it looks good on top of being safe ;)
The seats from Track Dog Racing are designed to be mounted on the floor and not on sliders. The drivers seat is on sliders so to make both seats sit at the same height so its not an eye sore with different height seats I had to engineer a seat mount that would do just that. Hope this helps.
I will be honest. I have made a lot of mistakes with building my Exo but most of the errors are buying parts I don't need. Take you time and check on the Mev owners club. If you need other advice on the Exocet or want to look at ours just let me know and I can Skype with you and show you what we have done. Thanks

I will ask my safety guy. If he agrees then we will do it.
Thanks,

good! Lookin forward to see you shred this thing, man. I'm building something similar next year :)

we are just doing a rough fitting for now. once the final install is done we will have all those issues addressed.
Thanks,
Bolts going through the floor are the only bolts that should fit upwards to you don’t reduce ground clearance and don’t damage the threads.
Where I come from that quality of welding is called pigeon poo.
I sadly dont have shielding gas as it requires a license to own in my area. So i have to make due with flux core.
What was wrong with the way the kit has the seats? Why the need to re-engineer the thing? That was not made clear in your video, or I missed it...

I'm intimidated by the build, and you're using a hand drill. What the hell is wrong with me?
