Yes it is a shame that for the same amount of money the insurance company has been paying for electric wheel chairs. And the scooter is much better to control and not tip over on the curb like I did and had to wait for help
I just buy mine used. I always buy the exact same chair so when they start wearing out I can cannibalize them for parts for my other chair. Most things on the chair i use are pretty simple to fix. I'm ambulatory so i fix my own chairs. For anything complicated I have a place i use that can say, replace a motor. Generally though, I'm getting these used for around $300 so if a motor goes out or the computer has issues, i just save the good parts and throw the chair away.

That's been 6 months ago. The only thing I needed to change was the seat cushion cover. I need one that I can slide on and the only ones I can find are cloth. I tried a local upholsterer and that turned out to be wasted money as well so that chair just sits there. It's maddening to say the least.

There really aren't any power wheelchairs that can go up and down three to four inches. I was able to place a rubber ramp I got from Amazon to get up a four inch threshold into my house. Power chairs tend to be narrower than standard wheelchair so most doors are wide enough.
