My local dealer doesn't deal with any insurance companies either. He said they were having trouble getting Uncle Sam to pay them. It's a shame because I'd much rather support local business but when Medicare is paying, you have to go where they tell you.

Yes it is a shame that for the same amount of money the insurance company has been paying for electric wheel chairs. And the scooter is much better to control and not tip over on the curb like I did and had to wait for help
I have been told Medicare pays 80% of the chair and the replacement batteries.
I just buy mine used. I always buy the exact same chair so when they start wearing out I can cannibalize them for parts for my other chair. Most things on the chair i use are pretty simple to fix. I'm ambulatory so i fix my own chairs. For anything complicated I have a place i use that can say, replace a motor. Generally though, I'm getting these used for around $300 so if a motor goes out or the computer has issues, i just save the good parts and throw the chair away.
@@rainncorbin8291 That would be the best way if Medicare won't pay for one. I bought a used chair because it would benefit me more than the chair Medicare paid for. I paid just under 3K. That's been 6 months ago. The only thing I needed to change was the seat cushion cover. I need one that I can slide on and the only ones I can find are cloth. I tried a local upholsterer and that turned out to be wasted money as well so that chair just sits there. It's maddening to say the least.

Are there any heavy duty travel power wheelchairs that can get checked into a plane?

Hello we are looking for a power wheelchair for our daughter. I was wondering if this type of wheelchair gives her full independence to come out of the house and come back. Our door has a small 3-4 inches step and I am not sure if the foldable one is capable of overcoming that step. Thank you

There really aren't any power wheelchairs that can go up and down three to four inches. I was able to place a rubber ramp I got from Amazon to get up a four inch threshold into my house.
Power chairs tend to be narrower than standard wheelchair so most doors are wide enough.
Can you tell me what the average cost to replace a lithium battery for scooters are?

New subscriber. I am 48 and have a right knee that does not bend. Looking for a good portable wheelchair that I can use and keep my right leg out straight in front of me. I have a 9 year old daughter and want to be able to take her places like the zoo, parks, and museums. I can walk about 100 steps before my leg hurts too much to put weight on it. I weigh 220#.
