Lew, great video as usual, I was pleased to hear you say "don't let the airplane fly you, you fly the plane". Back in the late 80's when I was just starting to learn to fly I was fortunate enough to get some flight time with a retired B-17 pilot. He used to tell me those exact words, which have served me well in my aviation endeavors.
Thanks man. I think it's important to let students know that they are in control. It helps to know that and being given the chance to correct mistakes instead of the instructor constantly stepping in is big too.
I am thoroughly impressed - 100% - Johnathan is a natural .... and doing so well at this point of his training. Lewis, .... thanks for coming back to this and leaving your Commercial job. These videos are so good - so riveting. Makes me feel like I am right there flying with you guys. Your instruction is impeccable brother. Please tell Johnathan I said - Keep up the good work - both of you !!!!
Damn i hope i get an instructor as passionate as you. I love how you are like a cheerleader for your students when they nail something and how you handle criticism of a student on things to improve on.
True story on stalls, my instructor and I did them early in my journey to understand what they are and then later when I was more capable of control; it was still unnerving, I argued "Are you sure we should be doing this?!" I'd still like to complete spin training for that added desensitization.
Only halfway through the video and had to take a moment to comment: Thank you for talking about Primacy while doing the power off stall. This was a terrific demonstration and as a CFI in training, great for me to see how this works in the cockpit instead of a textbook.
This is such a great series! Really helping me debrief the same procedures to improve my technique. Look forward to the landing vids - I'm struggling with the round out, so hope to see some good techniques there.
If only that shirt had the piper on it but saying the wings were in the correct position!! :) I love these long videos I can just sit back and relax on while I have to watch my baby all day long. My plane SHOULD be done this week, new cylinder overhaul and it needed Magneto harness replaced as they were bad too come to find out causing drops in power. Keep these long videos up and pick up my plane from Winter Haven when you get time, at least it's low wing hehe.
Loving this new series! Just passed my CFI initial and I'm starting to get into the flight instructing game. What do you have your students do for ground school Lew? I've been teaching ground as an AGI at a part 141 school for the past little bit but I'll be flight instructing on the 61 side of things so that'll be something I'll have to navigate soon. Also, thanks for providing a great example of what to do as a CFI by keeping it fun for the students!
Lew, absolutely fantastic video. I'm not yet old enough for flight training, but your videos inspired me so much that I joined a virtual airline for the sims. Can't wait to get to the PPL training in a few years! Cheers
Yeah, I was quite anxious about stalls just a few lessons ago (I am only three in, so not like I am far removed from that time lol) but my instructor showed me a power off stall and it was mostly a non-event in the Warrior II we fly. That was all it took for me to get over the anxiety.
I think I had forgotten how much I loved these original-style instructing videos! As always TH-cam doesn't alert me. It suggested a video about a lawyer who picks locks, but heavwn forbid it tell me about my favorite TH-cam topic from one of my favorite channels 🙄
Another phenomenal vid lewis! Rooting for Jonathan on his flying journey, your skills both as a pilot and as a teacher are epic m8. Wish u were based back in blighty tho lol. Hope to start my own ppl adventure soon, itll be in a proper plane tho 😂😂 lil piper cherokee, been up in it for a flight experience already and loved it, such a liberating feeling taking the controls. Take care bud and i look forward to the next episode
Thanks mate! I very much appreciate the kind words. Jonathan is doing really well and I'm looking forward to showing you more soon. There's nothing better than welcoming yourself to the sky in a Cherokee! I miss flying them!
Would you consider (on a different flight where you set up and brief it, obviously) taking a student like Jonathan to do spin training? I know the standard is to wait for CFI training, but it's helpful for everyone to experience, even just to have more context with things like stalls
I think the FlyingEyes gang needs to hook you up with a Grumman to do your videos in. Imagine doing all this in a proper airplane without those sloppy controls at low speeds!! Florida in a slide back canopy = game changer.
Lew - at the 30 minute area, your students power on stall... I noticed the stall horn came back after pushing it over... I have the same problem.... Tips to avoid?
That’s the importance of reducing angle of attack. Get that airflow back before raising the nose again because you risk a secondary stall. Until that airflow comes back, you tend to get the stall warning.
Jonathan is so much better than I was when I first started flying LOL. I'm very impressed at how advanced he is at this stage in his training.
He’s a hard studier and it makes a world of difference.
Jonathon is unreal, he's picked this up so damn quick! So, so impressed mate!
Heard myself on the radio on this one lol. Hope to one day become as good an instructor as you Lewis!
You’re too kind!
Nice lading, Jonathan!!! Congratulations!!

I love flying so much. My next flight, hopefully this weekend, should be first solo. Look forward to seeing his too.
just had mine the past Saturday, I'm sure you'll love it!
It really is a drug. I look forward (and dread) that day. 😅 Hoping to get flying lesson 4 in this Wednesday if weather allows.

So glad you’re enjoying my videos and I’m so glad to be back doing what I enjoy 🙌🏻
Great video as always. Very good to understand.
You can tell he’s a great student pilot, keeps that up he’ll be an amazing pilot and instructor in the future
Super helpful to me as a CFI applicant. Thanks!
Beautiful Lesson , Great Work
Thank you man
Spot on Lewis about the law of primacy! As a CFI myself I think very carefully that I teach the procedure correctly the very first time.
Yes sir!
Damn i hope i get an instructor as passionate as you. I love how you are like a cheerleader for your students when they nail something and how you handle criticism of a student on things to improve on.
Great series, Lew!
Thanks, Mike!
Lew your awesome...the positivity and filling in the quiet times with great comments to keep him focused and loose.
Ah thanks man!
Brother - love this series. Some VERY valuable sentiments.
10/10 - best aviation videos on YT. Hands down.
Ah thank you! Trying my best to bring real aviation content to TH-cam!
Enjoyed the "tone" of this content. Great vid. You're right where you're supposed to be. ✌🛩
True story on stalls, my instructor and I did them early in my journey to understand what they are and then later when I was more capable of control; it was still unnerving, I argued "Are you sure we should be doing this?!" I'd still like to complete spin training for that added desensitization.
well done fellas! Man Lewdix, slowly but surely Im really considering coming down that way for lessons.. You're very inspiring bro

Ah I’m glad you appreciate it man!
Enjoyed this episode so much!! Really makes me want to come over and take lessons with you. ;-)

What an amazing CFI! I was never given quality rudder instruction like this! Great job by the student on his 2nd/3rd lesson!
Thanks, Mike!
I live for your GA videos! Keep em coming!
I’ll definitely keep them coming!
Awesome video Lew, absolute legend!
Thank you!
Loving the posting rate but hating I can’t fly. Soon after my PPL had to lock the expenses down. I guess watching videos of it is a close second 😂
Haha live vicariously through my videos my friend
Hey lewdix thanks for the amazing video 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for watching!

Wonderful video as usual, love the instruction techniques and seeing them put into practice
Thanks, James!
Top instructing man.
Thanks mate!
Great job dude! Tell him to stop resting his fingers on that mixture lol. Nailed it!
Haha I caught that while editing
Lew, absolutely fantastic video. I'm not yet old enough for flight training, but your videos inspired me so much that I joined a virtual airline for the sims. Can't wait to get to the PPL training in a few years! Cheers
Thank you! Hopefully you’ll be able to take some tips from my videos and use them in your own flight training!
He is doing very well.
He definitely is 🙌🏻

Warriors are nice stallers. Doesn’t take much to get out of a stall in them. Glad you kicked your anxiety!

The TH-cam notification system has always been terrible. I’m posting weekly, usually on Mondays around 12pm. Beat the system and check back haha

Love your content as usual. I do have a question for you, what is the one most common problems you see in new pilots in training?
Would you consider (on a different flight where you set up and brief it, obviously) taking a student like Jonathan to do spin training? I know the standard is to wait for CFI training, but it's helpful for everyone to experience, even just to have more context with things like stalls
It’s funny you ask that because I cut out a part of this flight where he said he wants to do spins. We will be doing that at some point.
I think the FlyingEyes gang needs to hook you up with a Grumman to do your videos in. Imagine doing all this in a proper airplane without those sloppy controls at low speeds!! Florida in a slide back canopy = game changer.
That would be sick! I love an AA-5
He made landing look so easy 😅
I am glad to see you in a Cessna...
Those two fingers on the mixture are making me nervous LOL
I didn’t notice that until editing 😂 The benefit of recording flights. We’ll get rid of that habit.
@ 20:08 😂 Classic
sweet
I spun a 150 doing power on stalls with my instructor. That's why I stuck with low winged, "REAL AIR-O-PLANES."
I see your CFI/CFII ATP but are you CFIME/CFMEI?
Nah I’m not an MEI
Lew - at the 30 minute area, your students power on stall... I noticed the stall horn came back after pushing it over... I have the same problem.... Tips to avoid?
That’s the importance of reducing angle of attack. Get that airflow back before raising the nose again because you risk a secondary stall. Until that airflow comes back, you tend to get the stall warning.
Lew, it seems you have your mojo back. It's a pity you are in the US or I would fly with you any day.
Thank you! Definitely happy to be back 🙌🏻
