- Colossus the Fire Dragon is a classic double looping coaster at Lagoon. This ride was built by Schwarzkopf and started on the European fair circuit before being purchased by this Utah theme park. While the ride is old and the layout is simple, the ride is smooth and forceful.

Went to Lagoon with a bunch of enthusiast friends this last September and I loved this ride. I never rode it in any other row but the back. The turn after the second loop really is excellent. My number 2 at the park
That turn is fantastic.
Excellent review!!! From the Schwarzkopfs I have ridden I’d say they’re the king of helixes but that could also be CCI’s unbanked laterals too
Thanks!
Lagoon has 2 classic Schwarzkopf coasters. They also have Jet Star 2. It's so awesome to see how much they love these two rides and how well they take care of them. I love the fact they haven't heavily modified either one and maintain the trains, full lighting kit, and queue the way it was. It's just so awesome to see. I wish they were open to getting a couple more Schwarzkopf coasters like a shuttle looper and a Jet Star 1.
They have a lot of classics here.
Here's a fun fact: Lagoon's Jet Star 2 is the very first one, from the 1974 World's Fair. I don't know who made that deal, but I love that we have such a historic coaster in our little park.
Back in the day Colossus was the coaster that separated the men from the boys. Before Wicked and Cannibal opened it was the tallest coaster in the park, and an iconic part of the skyline. I still remember the year my dad convinced me to ride it for the first time. I'd been on equally thrilling rides at Universal Studios Florida and Disney World already, but this coaster still intimidated me just from that long, tall lift hill overlooking the parking lot.
It was love at first ride, and Colossus is still one of my favorites. An absolute classic.
I can see how it would have been a rite of passage.
As a local, sometimes I'll just drop by lagoon in the evening with my season pass and hit colossus twice and head home. The dispatch time for this ride legitimately rivals ski lifts and other nonstop entrance rides and it's just so fun. Personal 2nd favorite at the park
I would too if I lived closer.
This is my number 2 at the park. It was my favorite ride to operate when I worked there.
That's cool you got to run it. The crew working it really hustles!
I'm Dyin'! People broke into park to measure it. That's a true Gangsta HOA move! Now you know why most ppl. don't care for HOA's. Schwarzkopf's are getting to be finer than a frogs hair. A ride on one IS a treat. It really IS a very nice layout.
Now those are crazy neighbors.
Someday, I'll get out to Lagoon. I do love the Schwarzkopfs. It's amazing how they all still run so smooth.
Their rides age like fine wine.
what a cool backstory too. you’ve probably seen my other comments but, I REALLY love this coaster, so that’s why i’m so excited you’re talking about it. Did you happen to take a night ride on it? I wish I could have done that
Not in my recent visit. But I did in 2018.
I haven’t been to Lagoon but I’ve loved every classic Schwarzkopf looper I’ve been on. My favorite so far is Shockwave. I’m looking forward to riding American drier looping when it opens 😮
I can't wait to see it reopen.
This was my first looping coaster with lapbars , and since it's always a walkon, it's probably my most ridden coaster.
Makes sense.
There was another named Doppel Looping that debut with Barth in Europe. Conklin Shows acquired the ride in 1984 and operated it until 2008.
Thanks for sharing.
This ride has some crazy headchoppers on the helixes
It does!
Canobie Coaster would say:
In terms of smoothness, this coaster is excellent. Schwarzkopf are almost glossy smooth, even the portable models that are dismantled and moved several times. The only thing that can cause discomfort on these rides is if you have some form of over-the-shoulder restraints, which are...
A) something found on Colossus.
B) nowhere found on Colossus.
B
How did it take this long for me to realize it’s Scropion with one extra loop, which by default makes Colossus better, assuming they both run the same speed
It’s a clone already so Scorpion should be called this but one loop less
This one is more forceful.
For some reason Colossus seems to be a bit of a divisive coaster in the enthusiast community. Some people consider it the second best coaster at Lagoon behind Cannibal, others put it near the bottom of the list with The Bat. I happen to put it up near the top myself, but I think one reason for that is because it was one of the first coasters I ever rode (and probably the first inversion.) For quite a long time Colossus was the "big" thrill coaster in the park until Wicked and later Cannibal took over the spot. I'm actually temporarily living in Utah and was hoping to sneak in a trip to Lagoon while I'm here but it looks like we'll be moving before they open for the season so I'll have to "settle" for Carowinds instead.
I don't know of anyone that dislikes Colossus. I know people all rate Lagoon's coasters differently though.
schwarzkopfs are so pretty. would love to see a video about rides that you found/find scary
Maybe, that one gets harder as I ride more.
What do you think about the ride on Colossus the Fire Dragon at Lagoon? Painful?
Smooth
Of all Schwarzkopf coasters you've ridden, both operating, refurbished, and defunct, do you think Colossus the Fire Dragon at Lagoon was the best one for you? Why?
No, but it is a good one.
Looks super underated. I LOVE positive Gs so much and if all 3 loops offer strong forceless then this could be up there with Wicked in the same park. These positive G machines are dying and we have to rely on the few that's left.
I'm glad this Schwarzkopf has stayed open.

Wildfire at Silver Dollar City
Corkscrew at Valleyfair
The second is a Vekoma SLC that opened in 1995 and it still runs the old trains. Because those five coasters have inversions, what do you think about them to ride again, in terms of pacing and intensity?
I have reviews for them going more in-depth.
Laser now Teststrecke runs quite slow now with its new trains
Oh no!
@@CanobieCoaster it looks like it does in videos
You could get so many laps on this coaster. We got two ride, before music express got was down.
Nice!
Looks like they have just rebuilt it in its portable version and kept a lot of the typical fair circuit elements like the queue line and all the lighting. Even the locker booth could have been converted from an old sales booth. While it is nice to see it being kept (kind of) original, Lagoon seems to have taken a little bit lazy approach.
I do think they kept most of the fair elements to speed it up.
At Lagoon, what do you think about the smoothness or the roughness of Colossus the Fire Dragon, Roller Coaster, Cannibal, and Wicked?
The steel ones are smooth. Roller Coaster is fine.
I think those two types of coaster forces, positive Gs and laterals, are similar. But what are the differences between the two? What do you think?
Positive Gs push you into your seat. Lats push you sideways.
So, what’re the predictions for this new behemoth that Lagoon are working on in-house? I can’t remember their working name for it. Not much is known about it yet, correct?
Primordial should have the best theming of any of the park's coasters.
I feel like the information that the back has 1 G more than the back has to be wrong. The highest G forces should be in the vertical loops. And those are pretty symmetrical which means that front and back should have about the same forces. The front has the higher forces while entering a loop while the back has higher forces leaving it.
It could be false advertising.
See those roller coaster things:
intensity
forces
smoothness
roughness
pacing
What are the differences between the five, Canobie Coaster? What do you think?
Pacing is a rate of how engaged I am (linked to speed and/or element timing). Roughness and smoothness relate to how comfortable a ride is. Forces refer to the sensations a ride provides. Intensity is how wild a ride is.
So what would you rate this coaster? And how would you compare it to, for example, Kumba at Busch Gardens Tampa, to ride?
Kumba is better.
I have been on this! I love the loops. Why not 10?
Not a perfect ride. Good for what it is though.
This has a sister coaster that was owned by Conklin shows and then was sold to Pakistan and disappeared
That’s shitty
Interesting

Miami Dade County had it from the 1980s till 2008.
I miss this rollercoaster 😓
What is your favorite part of the ride, the lift hill?
No, there are a lot of good parts like the loops and turn after them.
Silly question, if you visit the park alone are you allowed to ride the roller coasters as a single rider?
If you go to this park alone, you can't ride Roller Coaster in the very front or back. And you need a partner for Jet Star 2.
@@CanobieCoaster thank you 🙂
I thought positive Gs and laterals look similar, see the differences between the two. Canobie Coaster would say...
A) Positive Gs push you into the seat with a heavy feeling, laterals push you sideways.
B) Positive Gs lift and pop you out of the seat, laterals push you into the seat with a heavy feeling.
C) Both are the same.
D) Positive Gs push you sideways, laterals push you into the seat with a heavy feeling.
A
So what would you rate this coaster? And how would you compare it to, for example, Kumba at Busch Gardens Tampa, to ride?
Canobie Coaster would say: Kumba is better.
So if I ask you, why?
Kumba has more elements to it.
What do you think about Colossus the Fire Dragon at Lagoon, rough?
Smooth and good.
If you are sitting in the front row, you are basically time traveling but you’re only a few seconds ahead
Don't view it that way myself.
This ride terrified me as a little kid; I'd always start screaming before the first big drop.
Fair!
The best rides I've had on this is, without the lapbars.
That sounds terrifying.
What would you rate this coaster, and why?
It's in the review.
Did you like or love Colossus the Fire Dragon?
Like
That was dorney laser coaster
Yes
why didnt you give it 10
Usually 10s are for airtime based rides or the best of their genre.
Is "graying out" considered a good thing or bad amongst enthusiasts?
I think it's a good thing.
Who doesn't want to see a roller coaster out their window?
Non enthusiasts.
Clutch, what does that mean?
