My best Christmas present was the year I was adopted. My mum had spent hours on Christmas Eve trying to get me a Cabbage Patch Doll. They were sold out in like every store. Finally she found not just one, but two. I had always wanted a Cabbage Patch Doll, but in foster care, I could never have one because they only gave us cheap presents and oversized clothes.
As a foster and adoptive parent I'm so happy you have that memory! Your mom is awesome! Also I get my foster children the same gifts I give my children. I'm sorry you were treated that way!
As a foster mom I'm sorry. So happy to hear about your adoption! We must be the same age as I also got a cabbage patch doll for Christmas one year ☺️

Out of twenty grandchildren my granddaddy chose to build me a huge dollhouse. I had that dollhouse in my bedroom until I moved out for college.
My favorite Christmas gift from childhood is somewhat "Old School." It was a shortwave radio during the early 1970s. This was long before the internet killed shortwave. I used to stay up all night, listening to radio programs from around the world. So much fun. By the early 2000s the internet had killed off most shortwave stations, and there's not much to listen to today. But it was fun for about 30 years.
You two lovebirds are precious. I totally love that writing-desk!

Dear Ron hello Lad my favorite Christmas gift was from 1926 my Pop bought us a German Shepherd puppy named Barney. We were swimming in the Oswegotie River in North upstate NY. I started to drown and my older sister. Barney jumped in because I was drowning my sister by holding her down in the water because I didn't know what to hold on to . Barney jumped in bit a peice of my blouse and took me back to shore. He jumped back in to get my sister my sister panic ed she held on to Barney , she was drowning Barney, but he got her to shore and his lung were full of water and my Beautiful Courageous Barney died on the Shore. I was 5 yrs old and I loved him so much and he gave his life for me and my sister. To this day being 98 yrs old I can't have a German Shepherd dog. It hurts to much. He was my Dearest friend. So Barney was my most favorite and special gift I ever got. ! God Bless you both Old Ann.

My favorite Christmas present when I was a little kid was one of those bouncey horse - the ones with the frame and springs if anyone remember those. I rode my horsey like crazy
I had one of those! I loved it until I got too big for it.
Oh yes!! I got one for Christmas 1965 when I was 3. Loved that bouncy horse. It was made so well ( unlike junk today) I passed it down to my first grandchild 15 years ago. Great memories.
Justine you are so funny, you are the story teller, I really enjoy your stories, love how you both fixed up this cabin, so homey and cute. I have learned a lot from you Justine, when you prepare a meal. We don’t realize how spoiled we are, with all the modern stuff, and sometimes we still complain.
Also since no one asked me what my favorite dinosaur is (lame!) I'll generously offer the detail - Allosaurus :)

My favorite Christmas gift came to me about 58 years ago, it was a little mechanical chicken, it would spin circles, flap its wings and crow at the same time. I will never forget that little chicken.

I must say that I don't remember what my favorite Christmas gift ever was, but I do remember my two most memorable Christmases. In no particular order: Christmas 2004 - deployed to Iraq and after a tough month of fighting we finally got a mail call and everyone's family and friends sent Christmas care packages. The packages were stuffed full of Christmas goodies like mini Christmas tress, stockings, home made cookies and candies, candy canes, hot chocolate packets, cans of soup and Spam, and letters and cards. Everyone was reading aloud their letters from home and sharing all the goodies with everyone else and for a moment it took our minds of where we were at and the empty racks in our little home away from home. Christmas 2021- my parents, siblings, and I were able to spend Christmas together. What's the big deal, right? Families do this every year. Well, it was the first time in almost 20 years we all have been able to spend any time, let alone Christmas, together as a family.
That stick is a rug beater that is how women cleaned their rugs. They would hang the rug over a branch or clothes line and beat the dirt out. Ron did a fabulous job on a fantastic dress. The writing desk wonderful.

Loved every Christmas gift that I had as a kid when I was living in my country. Christmas there is during the summer. We celebrate Christmas’ Eve and the first hours of Christmas Day.

Justine, I love your story about the "dinosaur" teeth! I remember being so excited and thrilled to my own little transistor radio when I was 8 years old. It was about the size of a cell phone and I absolutely loved it! I carried it around with me and would put it under my pillow at night and listen to music until I fell asleep. That was back in the 1960s, well before your time, but like your dino teeth, I still remember how exciting it was to get a treasured gift from my mom and dad.
My best Christmas gift was when my aunt gave me the Anne of Green Gables movies. I was 12 and obsessed with the movies and books.
I remember getting a Metal Kitchen Set. That was back in the 50’s.
I get very cold, too. Two words: Thermal Underwear. I deep dived into research and bought the best.. and they took me through the Texas Freeze perfectly! Felt like a second skin, very comfortable.

My favorite Christmas gift is probably this one deluxe art set--you know, the $20 ones from the craft store, a set of markers, colored pencils, and crayons or oil pastels in a wooden box? Got that from a classmate for the class gift exchange. I might still have the box, and once i find it I plan to modify it into a portable lap desk.

My favorite gift was the green anole lizard who had the broken tail. I wanted him so badly because I knew he would be left alone and no one would want him with his deformed tail.
The kindest thing my mother ever did for me was to run out and get him 5 minutes before the store closed on Christmas eve.

one of my fav gifts as a kid was a glass doll and as an adult prolly one of this years gifts which was an antique sewing box full of needles thread and other sewing goodies!

Loved your stories about your favorite gifts when you were kids!
We're Jewish and celebrate Chanuka which is eight nights. There are different traditions but in our family the kids would get one gift each night. Usually my parents' gifts had some connection to each other. I remember one year (or maybe a couple) I got a Barbie doll and the other nights I would get different outfits and shoes for her.
But, my favorite every year was my Grandma's handmade sweaters, hats, mittens and afghans. I never knew you could buy hats, gloves, mittens, etc at the store until I was an adult lol. I thought everyone had handmade. My Grandma was so talented. She knitted and crocheted so many different things. I wish I spent more time learning from her. I learned how to crochet a little bit like chain stitch and double crochet. I stopped after she passed away, picked it up again a couple years later and made a small afghan that both my daughters used. But, once you stop, it's so easy to lose it and it's hard to learn again.
My grandchildren love celebrating for eight nights and love every gift we've given them. I love seeing the smiles on their faces!

I learned the basics of crochet from my late grandmother. Mom crochets (and is quite accomplished now), but she crochets like a left hander, with her right hand, and she wanted me to learn to crochet correctly for being right handed.

My best Christmas was about 10 years ago when my husband pretended to almost caught Santa. We called ADT alarm to let them know what we wanted to do so they would dismiss the alarm. So 5 a.m. comes around, hubby shouts out " what the hell are you doing in my house, stumped to the door and opened it... the alarm went on and the HO HO HO
Was head and the my little ones woke up and learned that dad had almost caught Santa. My oldest didn't think it was funny. But I sure did.

I love you guys! I was raised visiting restorations across the east coast😍; Sturbridge, Williamsburg, Gettysburg, Monroe Village, Victorian homesteads in lower New York State to name a few 😍. Some of us even re-enacted 👍🏼💖. So, watching your channels just brings it home to me 🙏🏼 I can’t thank you enough for sharing the love you have for it with the rest of us.
As for my favorite childhood Christmas gift? It was my moon walking vehicle that a little astronaut could ride in! Battery operated and the coolest ever in dirt piles 😍🎄
One of my favorite xmas gifts were oil lamps ( used them in a power outage) lavender scented candles and pink Barbie camper.

I love watching the videos of you both. My father was born up there in Perry Co. When I was a little girl, growing up in Virginia, my father would go squirrel hunting. I got the play with the tails after he cleaned them. "You can take the boy out of the country, but You can't take the country out of the boy."

I remember getting VHS tapes for movies my dad thought I would like such as The Sandlot and various Disney tapes, back when they had the white clam shell cases. I would get them on Christmas and birthdays. One year, my dad and I were hanging out in the dark next to the tree with the lights illuminating the room and the TV going. This was after my mom died so it was just us. I opened a tape of Austin Powers. We popped it into the cool ass VCR and DVD player combo we had and I can distinctly remember the trailer for Boogie Nights playing before the movie. I've still never seen that but I vividly remember the trailer. My dad got a statue of Gollum from The Two Towers with a rock that you would press and it would say, "My preciousss." Does anyone remember any of that shit?😂

Ouch! My 14 year old nephew just got one for Christmas . The day after he hit a pot hole that he did not see and laid the bike down and seriously injured himself. He broke his collarbone.
