Facet Joint Injections: What You Need To Know

A facet joint injection procedure is when the medication is placed outside the joint space near the nerve that supplies the joint called the medial branch (a steroid may or may not be used). This made my pain worse for up to 3 months. Not as bad as a Si joint injection but also very painful. Had to ice the spot for weeks. Physical therapy did help some. Now I’m back to square one. Basically didn’t do anything.

I’ve had this done 4 of 5 times. Pain relief was achieved. Pain went from a 7-8 to 2-3. Very manageable now. Ibuprofen is all I use now. I go back approximately every 6 month. The procedure itself is a bit intense for me. It hurt. My most recent procedure I took Valium, it did help at all. I received four injections (2 on L3-4 and L4-5), fortunately the procedure is fast, perhaps 10-15 minutes.

This is not a solution....it's only temporary and should be used only in case of crisis not as a healing solution.
One can harm himself more after considering the pain went away and push more on himself and harm more himself while you didnt fix the root cause. All this despite the risk associated to these kind of injections.
The only sure thing is that it is extremely financially rewarding for the doctors who practice it.

I think it's more of a discomfort feeling than pain.

Just had it done. The only painful part is the local anaesthetic injections. More of a short term sting.
