Gary Stewart with my favorite of all time I started listening to him at 17 I am now 64 getting ready to turn 65 I was so lucky I did get to meet him I did get to talk to him and got his autograph in Corpus Christi Texas at the yellow Rose I'll be done then I wish I could remember everything that was said but it was awesome I still love his music and I miss him oh so much and they had music is the best to dance to and it does tell the story and it is sad that he is gone I will miss him forever thank you for sharing these songs with us and his memories and it's awesome please keep it on here thank you for sharing this 💖 🙏
Steve Earle once said Gary was the last of the great Honky Tonk singers. A mighty great compliment! My "brother" Tony Licata, a superb piano player, turned me on to Gary in the mid 70's when his family moved to Ft. Pierce. Together, we would play Gary's songs, he on piano and me on guitar, from Ft. Pierce to the Keys, in our band. Long live the spirit of brother Gary Stewart!
Gary Stewart was such an awesome singer. It is so sad to me to know that I will never get the chance to see him on stage, but his music will live with me forever.Gary, you were & still are the greatest country music singer ever!!!!
My husband David and Carolyn Messer still love Gary Stewart songs we play and sing some of his songs and never can be him but we relate to his songs and life we live one hour from where he was born and raised we are truly Kentucky and loved him like our family miss you Gary RIP
In my humble opinion, and with all due respect... Most of these Nashville promoters wouldn't know a good country song if it crawled up and bit them in the ass... Gary Stewart's stuff is good old traditional country music. I for one sure wish we could get back to that! I would suggest that "Empty Glass" is right up there with "He Stopped Loving Her Today" and "I'm So Lonesome I 'Could Cry" as one of the best heartbreak country songs ever written... Sure wish I could have met Gary... RIP.
This was Gary’s Kryptonite song, yet he still was only booked in minor venues. My thoughts are his career was mis managed. After his wife died he became despondent. She had helped him stay sober and the “gossip” was that he couldn’t go on without her. Gary had a different sound, he used different mikes and I found him hard to understand during his performances. As a radio DJ from the 80’s I knew his hits well. Word for word. His live stuff sometimes was less smooth in my opinion before TH-cam. ,
This was his last performance before he commited suicide the following week, very chilling.. a legends final set list before venturing into the great unknown. I love ya Gary
" really appreciated Gary Stewart music" and I would always check record stores hoping theirs a new one that might be a new release.many times nothing.I did not understand why? In my favorite book of country music, is King of Honks Tonks. I use to be so happy to hear Gary coming to perform on Navajo Nation.one time we had to chase him back to his room,he is a humble men, never turn us away, got his autograph.also chance to talk with him, gave a big hug and told him we love him.me and girlfriend.
I think it goes a lot further than that. His sound wasn't accepted by the major record labels, and as his career went on, he refused to compromise. Only the greats do that, and for that, he'll be better remembered posthumously. In other words, a legend, but not in his own time...RIP GARY
Please don't ever take this off TH-cam It lifts me up when Im really down and it helps me make sense of this crazy world. Thank you Chris R for posting this!!!
*Tears fall*..I was HERE..WHAT an AWESOME Artist, and all around good guy gary was..our hometown hero..as walkarway said,Nashville wouldn't know REAL honest ta gawd Country if it came up n bit em in the ass...MISS YOU GARY!!!!Da Fort ISN'T the same without ya!

@crawford374 hi,I agree with you. That Nashville is rejected; An merican legend who was the best. Genuine country artis, who writes and sings them, from true life experience. He really touched my heart with he's music.sad.
Jeeez... I see 2 thumbs down! Lol go bck to your boy bands of country and Luke Bryan! I feel your lost... For me I'll stay right here on this channel and continue to listen to real country music and a real singer! And catch me a nice buzz on......... 🍻🥃 thanks for sharing this video!
Elvis Presley is still the King of rock &Roll, Gary Stewart is still the King of Honk Tonk.and Micheal Jackson was is King of soul. Some great legends who walk on this earth, wrote songs that touched our hearts!
I guess we only heard him singing or saw him on stage .... probably a whole different picture than living with him and watching him trying to get through some rough times and drinking, drugging, etc. Sounds to me like times with Gary were really, really good or really, really bad! It sure would have been a privilege to have met him, though.
I am beginning to wonder why his only daughter was never involve and today? I've never seen her write anything about her father!? Like what he was likes.......? His favorite things.....? I know Lisa Marie Presley really appreciated her father,Even did a video of Daddy Don't Cry. Whats up with her?!
Check out Mike and the Moonpies and you will see what his daughter has been up to. She and I together just got them to release an album of 10 of Gary's unreleased songs. It came out today and and was number 2 on the Itunes Country Chart and #7 on the combined Chart. We spent 15 years trying to get this together. Today it happened and it happened big and on his birthday.
@crawford374 ,I argee, the majority of what they feed us is shit and then they try to tell us it taste good,Im sick of it myself, but we got jamey johnson miranda lambert.

Ten days later he shot himself. Heartbreaking.

I'm wondering how such a great talent was reduced to this. I'm guessing too much booze and depression.
His wife died
@@watkinsbrownit was always gonna end this way ...
Swagglehorse... Are you talking to yourself??
Great record of the great man’s last performance.
What’s the name of the second song?
Empty Glass
