    Outdoor sketching is not easy, especially for larger-scale sketches, where is it, what is the weather, whether there will be interference around, whether it is a place where you are allowed to stay, the light may change at any time, it is very complicated, but every time it is fresh It is also worth looking forward to.

    Your cut plexiglass 'frame' to hold your paper in place is pure genius! I have been hoping to see how it's affixed onto your board. Wonderful video all around with such good instructions! The painting is beautiful! Fresh and so alive!

      There is a video on my website which covers all my painting equipment, including my drawing board. It will show you that the plexiglass ‘frame’ is simply hinged at the top with canvas tape. I’m sure the video will explain all. It is very simple. Thanks for your interest. www.andrewpitt.co.uk

    Thank you very much for another very enjoyable and instructive video.
    I have problems getting my colours 'right' even though I do tests on a spare piece of paper. The colours that you select go so well with each other; I am sure that it is obviously because you are very experienced and know your palette so well, it is something that comes with time and repetition I imagine.
    Do you have a video that specifically deals with the problem of mixing colours and or getting the tones right?
    Many thanks dj

    • @AndrewPittArtist
      @AndrewPittArtist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for getting in touch. I rarely test my paint on a separate sheet of paper. All colours look good on their own. I think it best to see how the colour goes with what you already have on the paper. And the only way to do that it place it next to the colours you already have put down. I’m new to painting outside and not very good at it. It’s nice watching you paint the way you do. Not wet into wet or getting rid of all the white first, not necessarily starting with the sky, a nice technique for outside that seems a little simpler. I’m sure you just make it look that way! Thanks.

    When you say, "light red" (for example, where you said to use ultramarine and "light red" for the distant foliage), can you please explain which color (pigment code) you mean? Do you mean a cool red or a warm red (cad red or alizarin, for example) or do you mean Natural Red Oxide (Bauxite)?

    • @AndrewPittArtist
      @AndrewPittArtist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Light Red is a standard watercolour made by Winsor and Newton. It is certainly not like Cad. Red or Aliz. Crimson. It is a slightly more red than Burnt Sienna.

    I liked watching you paint dark to light. I'd wager it's a bit easier outside as paint dries so fast. Putting in the distant horizon last is something I almost never do. I'll have to try that. Also have not used 300# paper. Might have some advantages to offset the cost.

    • @AndrewPittArtist
      @AndrewPittArtist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I sometimes paint light to dark and sometimes dark to light. Just as the fancy takes me. Never do anything in a painting the same way twice. I think good paper is most important - that and professional watercolour paint. Good luck and don’t try too hard - just enjoy!

    Andrew- I admire your ability to draw and paint the landscape. I never felt it was necessary to transport the studio to the outdoors. To me, painting outdoors is a simplistic approach to what you could/can accomplish in the studio. Perhaps that is the wrong approach! But I tend to go with a minimal amount of paints and only one or two brushes. Your thoughts?

    • @AndrewPittArtist
      @AndrewPittArtist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It isn’t necessary to ‘’transport the studio’’ if all you want is a sketch. Do what comes naturally. I try to paint a picture outside, rather than fall back and merely do a sketch. And I don’t really take that much equipment outside. I try to paint my studio pieces the same way as I paint outdoors. www.andrewpitt.co.uk

    Not too much drawing, or you'll be filling in a coloring book instead painting. This is a paraphrase of what you said, but it's on the money. I find myself hiding behind my drawing when painting, it's a bad habit I have to lose. Thank you

      All I can say is I never varnish a watercolour. They look best behind glass.

    You talked about it being more important to having ‘the right tone’. I wonder if you would consider talking more about this.
    I recognise that in my paintings, when I have the tone just right, my paintings look all the better for it.

    • @AndrewPittArtist
      @AndrewPittArtist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, tone is the most important thing after drawing. In fact I plan to say more about tone in the next video, which will probably be a series of shortish lessons again as many people have generously been in touch to say how helpful they have found them. Thanks for your suggestion.

    Hi Andrew, this is a truly excellent demonstration! I really like your bag (the one in which you carry your drawing boards). Can you disclose the brand or where one could get a bag like this?

    • @AndrewPittArtist
      @AndrewPittArtist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your kind comments. My green bag is homemade out of green canvas and leather. if you can find anyone in your area who works in leather I’m sure they would have a go at making one for you if you supply a diagram and measurements. Good luck.

    This was an excellent demo, thank you for making it! I have a question about your tripod plate on your sketching board, where did you get it? I can only find the Guerilla Painters adapter plate in my searches online but I prefer how yours is a solid piece of metal. Thank you for your insights!
