    My Nana used to say it when I eat every Filipino food on my plate: "Masarap ka kumain" -meaning "you're eating very enthusiastically". It's a Filipino compliment I learned from my Asian side. It's the expression you have while munching on your meal in this video too. "Masarap ka kumain!" -I hope you enjoy more Filipino food to come.

    Also, that shrimp paste is for the kare kare! It's called bagoong. It's strong, but so good. We also eat that with hard mangoes and a lot of other meat dishes.
    Kare kare is made with peanut butter, shrimp paste (bagoong), and a ton of veggies like eggplant, bokchoy, and green beans.

    • @marielespinosaa
      @marielespinosaa ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@kywhatsthevibes1386 I’ve never had kapeak, but I see lots of people eating it. It’s also fermented shrimp paste, so I can only assume they’re similar.

    • @carlorielmendez6505
      @carlorielmendez6505 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kywhatsthevibes1386 I think they have the same main ingredient (the specific variant of bagoong made with tiny shrimps is called alamang) and they're both fermented. The formulas might be a bit different but alamang and kapeek pow should have strong seafood-y and umami flavor.

      You certainly gotta try authentic Filipino dishes. The most famous and best ones are, Lechon Kawali, Sisig(pig's face, ears, jowls, fat all minced with onions. Some mix some mayonnaise then lastly topped with a fresh egg unbeaten on a sizzling plate, to be mixed with a slice of lemon), Kare-kare which is a peanut butter based stew with beef chucks/oxtail/ox tripe/pork knuckles or feet with a blenderized mix of peanuts, annato oil, with eggplant, bok choy and string beans to be mixed with sautéed shrimp paste because without it, it'll taste bland. For soups we also boast our Sinigang, sour soup with veggies like tomatoes, water spinach, eggplant, white raddish, okra. Could be a pork sinigang, beef, shrimp or fish sinigang. Another is tinola, a chicken soup based from ginger with moringa leaves, unripe papaya, chayote good when you have a flu also the sinigang. Lumpiang shanghai are one of the top appetizers, this is always present in birthday parties, fiestas with pork bbq skewers, banana ketchup based spaghetti. The one that is used in Jollibee.
