I recall a young Francis trying to justify if he had made the right decision to quit his IT job to become a professional storyteller. Guess 99.999 others would agree with me. Congrats and onwards to your next milestone.
YES!!! THIS! I remeber this. Good times. I also remeber when he blew up his first or maybe 2nd computer and finally built a really good one and dropped a nice bit of coin on it. He was so stressed out about it all.
I stumbled upon FJ from looking for ONI tutorials to keep my dupes alive just a little bit longer. Had no opinion on Rimworld at the time. Now I watch more warcrimes than I watch science.
@@DVIs101 Me too. I had never even heard of Rimworld before FJ started playing it. Now I can't stop watching playthroughs of it. Same with Kenshi and so many other great games.
Francis Frantic will test your colony for weaknesses relentlessly, and often before you’ve recovered from the last threat. A hive of mechs right after a hive of bugs? A raid during a plague outbreak? Constant psychic drone? It’ ll be fine! It’s fine.
Francis referring to himself in the third person the entire video is beyond funny. Rimworld and its cruel world has made him schizophrenic lol. Congratulations on reaching 100k, I'm always happy when you upload and I hear "AAANNNDDD we're back!" best introduction.
Congratulations Francis! You shouldn't be so surprised. Your content is fantastic. I'm a big fan of how you actually learn the games and play them well instead of intentionally sucking at them and then acting dumb for the camera, like most TH-camrs do. I know that sounds spiteful, but this channel is truly a breath of fresh air. Good shit, man. Love the work

> [...] play them well instead of intentionally sucking at them and then acting dumb for the camera, like most TH-camrs do. 'Pete Complete' also plays games well. But I like Francis' approach of piling on more risk, at least in RimWorld, when things are going well.
I remember playing ONI in the prerelease beta. No vents. You had to do weird builds with puffs I think to try and make your base sustainable. The good old days
Congratz on the 100k, I can't believe its been 5+ years already. I thought you had ONI content pre steam turbine, back when you cooled a base with a water sieve and pee. Thank you for the content as always! Edit made after reaching the end of the video, would love more!
The Nomadic Tribal rimworld playthrough was how I found your channel. I still go back and watch it and the explosive sapper raid is still so devastating every time. The fighting ended, people were kidnapped, and then one of your survivors mental breaks and murders another survivor so you had his wife euthanize him and then killed the wife too. Absolute carnage insanity
51:46 There was a mountain tile in the fridge entrance that caused a base destroying bug infestation. That episode is what hooked me onto rimworld for the first time
This channel has caused me to buy the most games I've ever bought because I saw it online: rimworld + all dlcs, ONI space out (had the base game before), prison architect, noita, dave the diver, stacklands. I'm not usually effected by advertising, just FJ it seems! And I thoroughly enjoyed most of them!
PS about noita: it's an awesome game, also funny as hell if u can see past the initial frustrations. it's just not story oriented or something u can be deadly efficient at since every run is vastly different. So It's very understandable why Francis dropped it. but I'm still very glad I got convinced to buy it, thanks FJ. :)
Agreed - for me it's at the point where 9 purchases out of 10 that I make these days will be due to watching FJ play the games and getting interested in them. I've got some real gems that way, and come to the conclusion that most games that FJ enjoys are ones I'll also enjoy. There's also been a few that I've watched FJ play and avoided buying as a result - most often due to the amount of nausea/motion sickness/migraines they caused when watching FJ play. I really appreciate those too, because it means I don't waste my money on a game that sounds really interesting but that I will be unable to play because it makes me sick.
I'm all about this. Please do take a peek at your other saves in both RimWorld and ONI! It's fun having your current perspective on what was, at the time, peak efficiency.
I really like that backup "break in case of emergency" survival meals room. Honestly I think that is brilliant and should be the standard even in real life. Put food in weird and wonderfull places just in case. Some long lasting hermetically sealed food packaging build into the walls behind a brick designed to break with a punch. Something like honey and strong alcohol will probably never go bad.
Francis you aren't wrong this video made me feel old. I started watching for ONI gameplay but I don't recall any of those first few bases. I do however remember that RimWorld playthrough with Anita... When I hear that name and realized that series was almost 5 years old I had a moment of WTF I've been watching your almost every single upload for 5 years now. I literally never play RimWorld because its sooooo micromanagement heavy and I can't stand it. But here I am 5 years later. Cheers to 100k my friend!
I was fine until we got to the OG Gold Volcano tamer at 11:00. Wow. Just Wow. Good times. Oh damn, you actually did private bedrooms back in 1.2 RimWorld. I vaguely remember the killbox switch. Wow. Gratz on 100K Francis, here's to many more 'aaaaaand we're back's. I have enjoyed, and good luck.
Creature comforts is gonna be a fun experience for Francis's next ONI playthrough. They changed how animals and crowding works, giving the animals a sort of morale system.
I loved this idea, couldn't stop laughing at you calling whatever maniac designed that base mad. I'd love to see more rimworld bases if you'll do more of these
I remember many of these builds! And I can almost hear past Francis say "I made this thing... is this a good investment of time and resources? No. But we made it anyway." as the present Francis say "why? why did I make this??"
I remember the killbox that would occasionally take arms off pawns due to a big turret at the back. The nomadic playthrough was still probably your most fun playthrough. You also had a double toxic fallout. Moved tile, fallout, moved tile, fallout, then finally settled on one. You also learned the value of not using wooden bases early on in that playthrough.

Ah good times FJ, I found you through Rimworld, and was dragged, kicking and screaming, into ONI, I still haven't got the hang of it but every now and then I fire it up, until I have to build rockets, then I nope out. :) Congratulations, a well deserved reward to a quality gamer, and tutorialist. :)
Started watching back in the spring of 2019. The rime base was special for me as it started around the time my oldest kids was born. Thanks for the amazing videos and thank you for playing the games you enjoy!
Damn, that's 11000 cycles of ONI pre-DLC! Thanks for all the great content over the years! I'm repeating myself, but I'd love to see another mini base run with all of the DLC content at some point. It's a lot of fun!
I haven't watched all these base playthroughs but I do remember a lot of these like dropping the ocean for example... Good times. Pretty sure you were the first ONI youtuber I watched too when I first started learning the game. Would love to see another episode of this too.
Interesting to know I was playing ONI before Francis John back in Jan 2018 in beta, before pips, a while before germs were added and when they were added could collapse your colony, back when abyssalite had a few construction uses, before research reactors and radiation, before the now defunct job boards were a thing, before the defunct dupe space training centrifuge, before oxygen masks. Over 4300 hours of gameplay later, I still wonder back to ONI once in a while. Kewl trip down memory lane.
Thank you for this retrospective, I loved looking at your older bases again and would be happy to see more of them. I've just finished re-watching your Tribal Wizards series again (my computer died a week ago, so I spent the weekend watching you play Rimworld instead of playing it myself while my replacement computer is being built), but the look at the original Rimworld base makes me want to go back and watch that series again now too. :)
I remember the ONI bases, which is why I found the channel, but I've definitely stayed for all of the Rimworld. That first base with Anita... OMG that's still my all-time favorite playthrough. So many memories... remember that one episode with the B Team? It was so sad. I do say you should've including the Murder Munchkins base. I've never seen such a small group kick so much Mech-ass for so many days straight. Just... omg. You should make a commission for all the time you've caused me to spend playing this game.
@@Anopano3000 The original series (the base he highlighted here) was the reason I bought the game. He really got into the roleplay for it and connected with so many of the characters. Anita, GrAsshopper (named by the comments), Kai, Sir White, the B Team, and the added benefit of being his first playthrough so he wasn't seasoned like he is now. He actually made mistakes and that made it even more exciting.
The mini base was one of my favorite playthroughs and it absolutely prepared you to build the mobile rocket bases, which is my favorite ONI playthrough by far
1:12:00 I never really liked watching your ONI series until I watched your Mini Baby Base ONI challenge map. Such a fun series with how hard it was and how you had answers for every obstacle in that map gave you, very cool Francis!
I started watching in 2020 working nightshifts and your ONI videos got me through. I still regularly have your old playlists on as background noise and didnt realise Rime was so old as I only finished watching it (again) a couple of months ago
Congratulations, Francis! Been a long time coming and I've been here for most of it. Please continue to create at your leisure. Thank you for your contribution to the interwebs.
44:30 I remember the great infestation of the year 20xx. The one that utterly obliterated the core of the base and almost set you back to the stone age. That was a hot minute ago.
You weren't kidding about feeling old. I remember watching the rocket chimney and the comet catcher series the first time. So long ago, before the dark times.... It's been a hell of a journey my friend. Congratulations! You've earned every single bit of it.
50:30 I believe the story behind the jade walls was that you got tons of jade from tribals who were attacking you. Also you forgot about the hot box tunnel you made for the kill box, setting those tables on fire to cause heatstroke and spontaneous combustion
This was incredibly fun! Hilarious to hear you refer to yourself in 3rd person almost like you're distancing yourself from the madness I don't remember when I joined the channel exactly but I remember each of these playthroughs all of them with their own special spice Good times and heres to more oversized and ridiculous builds in the future 🎉 fantastic stuff
2019? well now I feel old. I started watching you when I was 30! (I think Oasise was my first series with you? IDK). 30:33 I still go back to this base to look your drecko ranches because I love the design and can never remember the size when I go to make it myself... lol 32:41 Next ONI play-through, do another rocket chimney as a throwback? :) 42:20 says the guy who built a jade palace on a combat tile.... :P (~) 52:40 The idea with the rec/dining room thing was something that you mentioned in your tutorial series for RW. Pawns won't go more than 30? tiles to eat at a table basically, so the idea was that if you put an impressive dining room next to a killbox, after the raid, they wouldn't have to go far to eat. Also, you had multiple killboxes and used them on this run. the north killbox got used when you had multiple raids or in general just felt like using it. 1:05:58 IIRC, you eventually did the same kind of design for a rust smelter in a future game? hmmmmm 1:17:20 Yes, MORE! 46:28 That IED trap behind that wall was because all the sappers on that save liked going to that one particular spot for some reason, so someone pointed out in the comments, you can do that and watch them explode when they dig through. xD
I started watching for the Oni content - and even though you pretty much beat the game when you mined out every single asteroid and sent it through the temporal tear, I alway secretly hope you'll fire up a new map one day! Oni content is STILL my favorite. :) There's a new update coming soon - maybe then!
@Francis I can't believe I've been watching your videos for over 4 years now. Watching you go through the older videos brought back so many memories. It was like I was remembering all of it with you. Congrats on a 100k. I think you had 1700 when I first started watching. Been a helluva ride!
I remember watching several of these bases! Whew Time has flown by. Thank you for all the years of entertainment FJ. There's been more than one time where I only kept youtube because of your channel. Here's to many more!
My vote for the next playthrough is the Mega Vent no weeze wart steam turbine cooling fan nulifier etc all cooling must be done via heating up gases before venting them into space. At the end you have a massive base continuously venting huge amounts of superheated gases.
Congrats on 100k! A lot of what you do in ONI is so far over my head that it's difficult for me to spot how far you've come. But with Rimworld it's quite amazing to see your progression from competent n00b to master. I remember being impressed with how calmly you dealt with starting over again with your handful of survivors after losing everything in that early playthrough. Thank you for the countless hours of entertainment! Thank you for all the knowledge you have shared!
About first rimworld base: 1. Infestations couldn't spawn in deep freezers (-17*C) under mountain in 1.2. That's why your food storage was under mountain roof. Dunno if can now. 2. That still issue in 1.5. Tables have effective range ~30 tiles. You need either use mods for fix or spam dozens of dining rooms around bigger bases. That's also why in 300+ pawns challenge you made corridors into dining rooms.
@@92thorstein It is, though there is a mod that extends the table distance/allows you to configure the distance, and a few others that allow you to ban colonists from carrying a meal with them. I generally use the option to ban carrying meals, so that pawns have to go back to base to get a meal and when they do there will be a table nearby where the meals are so that stops most of their silliness.
This was such a fun trip down memory lane! I had forgotten about some of these projects (the regolith melter in particular was a great throwback) so I'd love to see a second part if you could make it work. Congats on 100k, you deserve it :3
Ah the perfect craziness of your previous Bases, I'm still working on my own massive bases time lapse =.= kill me oni takes 8 minutes to load now... Francis every base you've made must take forever to get in and reminisce it's wonderful to see all of these though. Good stuff!

Congrats on 100k subs! You should do more of these. I've watched all of the play throughs so it was quite nostalgic for me as well as I'm sure it was for many others too!
6:52 I REMEMBER YOU ASKING THAT QUESTION IN THE VIDEO YEARS AGO. You asked the exact same question in a tutorial video of yours I watched when I started out playing ONI. That hit me like a bimb.
I found your channel when I was looking for oni help way back in the day, and it’s been a fantastic journey up to 100k. It’s a strange dichotomy between creator and consumer, I genuinely feel like I could sit down next to you in the pub and chat like we’re old mates, where as you might or might not remember a tip I gave on two single beds to stop pregnancy and a comment about duck hunt! I think It’s why your content works so well, it really feels like you’re having a chat with a friend 😊 To the next 100,000 subs! Congratulations

I don't remember when I joined the channel exactly but I remember each of these playthroughs all of them with their own special spice
Good times and heres to more oversized and ridiculous builds in the future 🎉 fantastic stuff
The fact that i remember %90-95 of the ONI is really is beatiful. Congratz for the 100k Francis.
2019? well now I feel old. I started watching you when I was 30! (I think Oasise was my first series with you? IDK).
30:33 I still go back to this base to look your drecko ranches because I love the design and can never remember the size when I go to make it myself... lol
32:41 Next ONI play-through, do another rocket chimney as a throwback? :)
42:20 says the guy who built a jade palace on a combat tile.... :P
(~) 52:40 The idea with the rec/dining room thing was something that you mentioned in your tutorial series for RW.
1:05:58 IIRC, you eventually did the same kind of design for a rust smelter in a future game? hmmmmm
1:17:20 Yes, MORE!
46:28 That IED trap behind that wall was because all the sappers on that save liked going to that one particular spot for some reason, so someone pointed out in the comments, you can do that and watch them explode when they dig through. xD
I still remember the first ONI base. Time flies. Congrats Francis!
I started watching for the Oni content - and even though you pretty much beat the game when you mined out every single asteroid and sent it through the temporal tear, I alway secretly hope you'll fire up a new map one day! Oni content is STILL my favorite. :) There's a new update coming soon - maybe then!
i remember these, gz to 100k (i was former known as Spooky)
I like how current Francis distances from himself by referring to his past self in the second person.
@Francis I can't believe I've been watching your videos for over 4 years now. Watching you go through the older videos brought back so many memories. It was like I was remembering all of it with you. Congrats on a 100k. I think you had 1700 when I first started watching. Been a helluva ride!
What a treat! Thanks for all the content Francis! You deserve all the subscribers! Grats on the 100k!
I remember watching several of these bases!
Whew Time has flown by.
Thank you for all the years of entertainment FJ. There's been more than one time where I only kept youtube because of your channel.
Here's to many more!
congrats on 100k, ive been watching since 2019, and i hope to see you grow much further. Cheers!!
Wow! I can’t believe I’ve been following that long. Great stuff, love the nostalgia. Wouldn’t mind seeing more of it. Congrats on 100k!🎉
Congratulation francis ,I wanted for this moment for 10k subs ,you deserve more and more
My vote for the next playthrough is the Mega Vent no weeze wart steam turbine cooling fan nulifier etc all cooling must be done via heating up gases before venting them into space.
About first rimworld base:
The wiki still mentions the -17C criteria so I think it's still there.
@@bobsprock last time i did mountain base was in 1.2. That why i secured myself in this statement.
The table issue is still problem :(
@@92thorstein It is, though there is a mod that extends the table distance/allows you to configure the distance, and a few others that allow you to ban colonists from carrying a meal with them. I generally use the option to ban carrying meals, so that pawns have to go back to base to get a meal and when they do there will be a table nearby where the meals are so that stops most of their silliness.
ha,,, memory.... very nice Francis John,,, very nice.... and congrats...
Definitely do some more of this nostalgia series. Deserved 100k FJ!
Please continue this trip down memory lane! 🙏
This was such a fun trip down memory lane! I had forgotten about some of these projects (the regolith melter in particular was a great throwback) so I'd love to see a second part if you could make it work. Congats on 100k, you deserve it :3
Congratulations, dude. Well deserved 🎉
Congratulations again! Thanks again for all the years of entertainment.
Yay more base loving! This is one of my favorite series. It's always fun to see the crazy bases that subscribers make :D
Congrats sir, happy to go on this drive with you. Here's to another 100k
Ah the perfect craziness of your previous Bases, I'm still working on my own massive bases time lapse =.= kill me oni takes 8 minutes to load now... Francis every base you've made must take forever to get in and reminisce it's wonderful to see all of these though. Good stuff!
I have a few old bases but I wish I'd held on to more. I love fixing old bases
congrats on 100k Francis!! oh wow I think I started watching during ONI Oasis after TH-cam recommended me a tutorial nugget of yours...then I had to check out your rimworld series after seeing so many videos on it...stayed for the legend of Anita and the gang after the sap explosion sheninagns xD thank you all the videos over the years and staying so consistently true to your excellent playstyle!
I think It’s why your content works so well, it really feels like you’re having a chat with a friend 😊
To the next 100,000 subs! Congratulations
5 years!
And I think I have been here since somewhere in the first or second ONI-series.
Happy for you Francis! Thanks for lot´s of joy! (even if my wife nowdays recognise your voice and tells me to use headphones as she doesn´t like the conent...)
And of course we need a part 2
You only got two cool steam vents, and you LIKED it!
Congratulations! I think I've been here since sub 5k and watched almost all videos so thanks for all the entertainment!
Until the next milestone!
Man, time really does fly.
Congratulations on hitting 100k!
I feel like the 2019 bases were the craziest period. I miss those crazy over built bases.
I discovered your channel in early 2020, and it’s one of the things that helped me get through the pandemic. Thanks for everything.
Congratulations on 100K!! Your content got be beyond day 30 when I started the masterpiece of ONI, and then watched your playthroughs of various games for your insane base building. Excited to keep watching your content!!
Oh I'm late here! But these ONI playthroughs where the highlight of my gaming youtube life back then. This was a wonderful throw back to see all these bases, and I remember watching all of them, this is such nostalgia. Thanks for doing this upload it really made me smile
I started watching around the hire everyone rimworld challenge and been hooked ever since, though now I might have to go back and watch that tribal series just to see how far you've come
Congratulations on the 100k
Also check out the performance improvement these bases you were forced to abandon due to the frame rate!!
Congrats on the 100K, it won't be long till you get 1 million
Congratz On the 100k FJ - absolutely deserved and looking forward to supporting you through the next 100k and the next 100k after that 👏
Congrats dear Francis to the 100k! I've been watching your ONI vids for so many years now, first to learn, then to laugh. you are truely one of a kind and I wish you that you can continue doing what your heart calls you to!
You going over the old base just felt like when I'm explaining a legacy codebase to a new coworker not gonna lie xD
speaking of old bases, i still remember the rimworld base made when biotech came out and the absolute monsters that inhabited it. ah, good memories
i might have to go back a rewatch the mini base mod. this one was so good. Congrats on the 100k!
I rewatch your older series often because they are works of art, to varying extents, with the corpse jade combat tile one being a highlight along with the steam rocket chimneys. :) they're lovely 😍
Congratz on the 100k FJ, your entertaining and deserve it.
